The Ebook Version of Lenski's New Gospel Sermons and the Print Version Are Now Published

The ebook version of Lenski's New Gospel Sermons is linked here.

“Christ our Savior and all his apostles preached justification by faith, even as did the prophets of the Old Testament. Justification is the central doctrine of all the Scriptures, the heart and soul of the entire Christian religion. All believers are justified, all the saints in heaven now have been made what they are by justification, and at the last day the righteous at Christ’s right hand will be there because they have continued in justification to the end.”
“Thank God, the Bible is in men’s hands today! Whoever will can have it in our whole land, and can read and study it as much as he desires. But what do we find in this free land of ours? The most deplorable ignorance of the Bible. And alongside of it the most dangerous misuse of the Bible… Here is God’s own Word, the great treasure house of heaven, and here is the key to unlock all its treasures for us… O the sadness of this lack of use, and of this misuse of the Holy Scriptures!” R.C.H. I AM - The Light of the World

John 8: 12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

12 παλιν ουν ο ιησους αυτοις, ελαλησεν, λεγων "εγω ειμι το φως του κοσμου. ο ακολουθων εμοι ου μη περιπατησει εν τη σκοτια, αλλ εξει το φως της ζωης."

13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

I AM is the revealed Name of God (Exodus 3). People tend to read the I AM sermons with the emphasis on the second part. In reality, the second part is much stronger with this understanding -  I AM, The Light of the World.

People call upon the names of pagan gods, but that is useless. There is no one to answer to those names. Those who know the true Name of God and the character of God are those to whom the Holy Spirit has revealed it.

As I have often said, the Gospel of John emphasizes the divinity of Christ, His close relationship to the Father, and the importance of faith in Him. The Holy Spirit is not neglected at all, but we have sermons on the work of the Holy Spirit - from Jesus, in John. Thus we have a special book on the Holy Trinity.

Between Exodus 3 and John 1 and 8, we have the clear teaching that Jesus' Name is I AM, that He existed before the Creation and is the Creating Word, the Logos, of Genesis 1.

Here is a very important insight from Luther about light. God created light before the sun and stars, so they are not the source of light (and truth) but God alone is.

I wonder how many generations in Judaism wondered about Creation. Why is there light before there was a source for light in Genesis 1?

This revealed fact teaches us that Jesus as the Light of the World is Truth itself. Darkness is the absence of light, and nothing thrives in pure darkness. Moreover, we cannot do anything well without light. We cannot move safely in pitch black. We cannot grow anything useful. We cannot tell one object from another or enjoy what God has given us.

The experience of light and darkness also informs us about truth and falsehood. Christ is Truth itself. The Pharisees did not like this and tried to equate Jesus with their own nature. He should not witness about Himself. But who could witness to God Incarnate? They had a chance to see and hear Him, to see His miracles, but they still found reason to object to Him.

Hale Loves His Confused Tirade So Much, It Is Published Two or Three Times, Boosting CN Readership to 17

"Another Hale-Storm rolling in! No, Wait - It's the same one."

One Ichabod reader was so impressed by Hale, that it spawned a spirited repudiation...of Hale.

From a reader:
"I have never read such an excellent article for the study of incoherent writing, logical fallacies, contradictions and arbitrary statements.

However, his basic premise contradicts the Formula of Concord, which clearly states:

9] Concerning the righteousness of faith before God we believe, teach, and confess unanimously, in accordance with the comprehensive summary of our faith and confession presented above, that poor sinful man is justified before God, that is, absolved and declared free and exempt from all his sins, and from the sentence of well-deserved condemnation, and adopted into sonship and heirship of eternal life, without any merit or worth of our own, also without any preceding, present, or any subsequent works, out of pure grace, because of the sole merit, complete obedience, bitter suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord Christ alone, whose obedience is reckoned to us for righteousness."

10] These treasures are offered us by the Holy Ghost in the promise of the holy Gospel; and faith alone is the only means by which we lay hold upon, accept, and apply, and appropriate them to ourselves."

I published Hale's entire tantrum with a few comments. Hale refuses to address my work fairly or even publish key points, so his meandering tirades are nothing more than self-defeating failures. Unfortunately, he has adopted a stance learned from David Scaer, shouting insults instead of teaching. The Ft. Wayne gang is marvelously similar in that respect:

  1. Paul McCain
  2. Rolf One-Note Preus
  3. Jack Casione
  4. Jay Webber
  5. The ELDONA priesthood, with only a few exceptions. They dropped OJ but retained the Ft. Wayne style.
Not one Objective Justification fanatic has answered Genesis 15:6 and Chapter 4 of Romans.

They need to find some new insults and fables, because I read them to Mrs. Ichabod each time and we laugh together.

I sent two copies free to Christian News. The Kindle is only 99 cents. Compare The Path To Understanding Justification to Scaer's high-priced, narcissistic bombast.

“Let us hold fast the gift as Christ has bestowed it upon us — as the gift of the entire church down to the very least of its members. It is the old error of Rome to think that a certain order of men alone possess this authority from Christ to bind and to loose. No; not to the pope and the priests as his representatives, not to the pastors in our churches as a separate class, is this divine power given, but to the people of God one and all, to you and to me alike. There is only one difference — the pastors are the called ministers of the church, through whom the church acts ordinarily when it binds and looses. Christ bids us “tell it unto the church” when the final stage of discipline is reached, and only the church may exclude a fallen member from its fold. In this work of discipline, as in the entire work of preaching Gospel absolution and pronouncing this absolution, the church uses the pastor’s voice to speak for it, but it is the church which does it; it is not the pastor alone who acts apart from the church. So also when one brother, or several brethren deal with another — without any pastor they are entitled to use the power of Christ. And when they find the sinner penitent theirs is the blessed privilege to give him the Gospel pardon in Christ’s name. Oh, then recognize what Christ has done for his church! Hold fast and administer faithfully his great authority, and let no man rob you of your high and holy privilege!”

From David Becker - About Dr. Walter A. Maier II - Who Was Persecuted by Scaer and Preus

David Scaer made a point of belittling the Maier family, including Dr. Walter A. Maier Senior. The late WAM II is on the left. Read Scaer's autobiographical confession of sins, utterly lacking in contrition. A reader added - "The Maier family are the true Lutherans. The Calvinists have completely taken over Missouri. Same with WELS ELS etc."

From David Becker:
"Dr. Walter Maier Jr. has often been mentioned in the context of his father, sons or brother, but he had a noteworthy ministry in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in his own right.  Some of the controversies have not been mentioned in obituaries of Dr. Maier Jr.  These will be discussed briefly here, based on the public record and not so much on personally knowing Dr. Maier Jr., though I did meet and speak with him once.  These remarks are personal views, not necessarily shared by others.

In Pastor Herman Otten's book about Dr. Maier Jr.'s father, Lutheran Hour speaker Walter Maier, Walter A. Maier Still Speaks: Missouri and the World Should Listen (2008), Pastor Otten noted among other things, "Walter Maier Jr.'s signature is the first to appear under Crossroads, a document supported by conservatives concerned about the growth of theological liberalism in the LCMS."  This 1970s document played a significant role in sparking liberals to leave the LCMS, shown most in the exodus from Concordia Seminary St. Louis and the formation of Seminex.

Otten continued, "An unfortunate controversy developed in the LCMS when Maier expressed opposition to the doctrine of objective justification.  CN had good friends on both sides and suggested that all listen to Dr. Kurt Marquart who had worked out some sort of unity statement with Maier.  CN supported the position which Kurt Marquart, Robert and Jack Preus took in the controversy, but deplored that Jack Preus was using Maier's position for an excuse to get rid of Maier."

In Jim Burkee's history book, Power Politics and the Missouri Synod, Burkee didn't buy that former LCMS President Jack Preus's opposition to Maier was motivated by doctrinal concerns at all.  Maier Jr. got elected to the LCMS presidium but was never elected LCMS president.  The direction of the LCMS might have been drastically different had Maier Jr. gotten elected in 1981 instead of Ralph Bohlmann.

Otten went on, "CN expressed regrets when Walter Maier Jr., who was being influenced by LCMS President Ralph Bohlmann, signed a resolution with Bohlmann attacking Robert Preus as an impenitent sinner who should be removed from the LCMS.  CN urged all members of the LCMS's Praesidium, who signed the Bohlmann inspired resolution, to withdraw their signatures."  I had occasion to meet Dr. Maier Jr. at a Lutheran Laymen's League convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan around that time.  In conversation with him then, without specific reference to anyone, he told me that he needed to follow his conscience as to what he believed was right regardless of what criticism he got.

Dr. David Scaer, long time Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne professor who has heavy Romanizing tendencies, discussed Maier Jr. at some length in his massive book released earlier this year, Surviving the Storms (the volume has been highly praised by Logia and Gottesdienst).  Dr. Scaer depicted Dr. Maier Jr. as doing a horrendously bad job in leadership at the seminary after Robert Preus left.  Subsequent leaders at CTSFW leaders have been more to Scaer's liking.  According to Scaer, the whole Maier family remains suspect and guilty of false doctrine.  Scaer wrote among other things, "Support for Walter A. Maier II as synod president cannot be ruled out as a reason for Jack Preus asking his brother Robert to handle Maier II’s doctrine of justification. Relations between the Preus brothers were not without their rough spots. Yet both Robert Preus and Jack Preus could not accept what they saw as the denial of objective justification by both Walter Maier I and his son Walter Maier II. His views also became an issue
in September 1989 with the calling of Walter Maier III, whose views were seen by some faculty members as virtually identical with his father’s view. Neither understood this doctrine according to traditional Missouri Synod definitions."

Dr. Scaer also expressed implied disapproval that Dr. Maier Jr. delivered the opening sermon at Camp Trinity, New Haven, Missouri in the 1970s.  "Complicating matters was that Maier’s position may have been held by those who thought of themselves as conservatives in working for a change at the St. Louis seminary. Christian News editor Herman Otten factored into Jack Preus’s election as synod president and had supported Robert Preus in his attempt to be retained as the Fort Wayne seminary president. Otten had written his master of sacred theology thesis on the Lutheran Hour speaker’s social views and maintained a personal connection by inviting his widow, Hulda Maier (1890–1986), and then his son Walter II to speak at inaugural events at Camp Trinity in New Haven, Missouri."  Scaer seems to suggest that it was alarming that Maier Jr. and his mother did that.

Independent Lutheran pastor Dr. Greg Jackson, blogger and author of numerous books, has in recent years strongly supported Dr. Maier Jr., stating on October 28 that opposition to Maier Jr.'s theology was "demonic" and "guilty in destroying the LCMS."

None of this comes up in the many kind and warm remembrances of Dr. Maier Jr. on Facebook.  One person commented simply, "Dr. Maier was a humble and vibrant servant of God!"

Dr. Maier Jr.'s obituary lists the traditional Lutheran TV program, "Worship Anew," as a suggested memorial outlet."

A Reader Answers the Hysterical Essay of Phil Hale-Storm Hale,
Ft. Wayne Graduate, LCMS Pastor. His Essay Is Conveniently Posted Below.

Lutheran laity understand the Book of Concord, but the treasures of the Gospel are taken away with force by the Concordia, Ft. Wayne professors, especially David Scaer.
I put the entire essay on this blog, and added comments. Someone posted objections to Hale, below in blue. His essay is at the bottom, in green.

From a reader:
"I have never read such an excellent article for the study of incoherent writing, logical fallacies, contradictions and arbitrary statements.

However, his basic premise contradicts the Formula of Concord, which clearly states:

9] Concerning the righteousness of faith before God we believe, teach, and confess unanimously, in accordance with the comprehensive summary of our faith and confession presented above, that poor sinful man is justified before God, that is, absolved and declared free and exempt from all his sins, and from the sentence of well-deserved condemnation, and adopted into sonship and heirship of eternal life, without any merit or worth of our own, also without any preceding, present, or any subsequent works, out of pure grace, because of the sole merit, complete obedience, bitter suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord Christ alone, whose obedience is reckoned to us for righteousness.

10] These treasures are offered us by the Holy Ghost in the promise of the holy Gospel; and faith alone is the only means by which we lay hold upon, accept, and apply, and appropriate them to ourselves.

11] This faith is a gift of God, by which we truly learn to know Christ, our Redeemer, in the Word of the Gospel, and trust in Him, that for the sake of His obedience alone we have the forgiveness of sins by grace, are regarded as godly and righteous by God the father, and are eternally saved.

12] Therefore it is considered and understood to be the same thing when Paul says that we are justified by faith, Rom. 3:28, or that faith is counted to us for righteousness, Rom. 4:5, and when he says that we are made righteous by the obedience of One, Rom. 5:19, or that by the righteousness of One justification of faith came to all men, Rom. 5:18.

13] For faith justifies, not for this cause and reason that it is so good a work and so fair a virtue, but because it lays hold of and accepts the merit of Christ in the promise of the holy Gospel; for this must be applied and appropriated to us by faith, if we are to be justified thereby.

14] Therefore the righteousness which is imputed to faith or to the believer out of pure grace is the obedience, suffering, and resurrection of Christ, since He has made satisfaction for us to the Law, and paid for [expiated] our sins.

15] For since Christ is not man alone, but God and man in one undivided person, He was as little subject to the Law, because He is the Lord of the Law, as He had to suffer and die as far as His person is concerned. For this reason, then, His obedience, not only in suffering and dying, but also in this, that He in our stead was voluntarily made under the Law, and fulfilled it by this obedience, is imputed to us for righteousness, so that, on account of this complete obedience, which He rendered His heavenly Father for us, by doing and suffering, in living and dying, God forgives our sins, regards us as godly and righteous, and eternally saves us.

16] This righteousness is offered us by the Holy Ghost through the Gospel and in the Sacraments, and is applied, appropriated, and received through faith, whence believers have reconciliation with God, forgiveness of sins, the grace of God, sonship, and heirship of eternal life.

17] Accordingly, the word justify here means to declare righteous and free from sins, and to absolve one from eternal punishment for the sake of Christ's righteousness, which is imputed by God to faith, Phil. 3:9. For this use and understanding of this word is common in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and the New Testament. Prov. 17:15: He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord. Is. 5:23: Woe unto them which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! Rom. 8:33: Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth, that is, absolves from sins and acquits."

Hale's original essay is posted below.

"FAITH WITHOUT CHRIST?

Objective justification is often misportrayed, because what it actually describes has always been assumed by genuine Lutherans. It is the denial of any objective aspect, basis, or foundation to justification that is new, and therefore requires a pointed and emphatic response. It is often assumed that those who hold to this objective aspect of justification require it to be mentioned or made explicit, which is not the case. It is simply the new error that must be rejected. This frustrates those who, in denying it, cannot hold two parallel biblical truths together without pitting them against each other.
Gregory Jackson, the most visible and energetic denier of any objective aspect of justification in Lutheran circles today, recently said “Faith? Faith? Where Is Justification by Faith on Their [the LCMS] Wiki Page?,” on a blog post entitled “Gentlemen — I Refer You to Your Own Document — The Augsburg Confession.” So “faith,” is the magic word, and the phrase “justification by faith” becomes all-important—indeed, everything, to the deniers. But to the upholders of the Lutheran teaching of justification—who confess that righteousness is solely from Christ, not our faith or personal decision—there must be a doctrine and meaning behind these words. Three words, no matter how historical, enshrined, or well-regarded do not make a full-bodied doctrine, especially the central doctrine of the Scriptures.
Jackson takes issue with this statement describing the Missouri synod: “The synod rejects any attempt to attribute salvation to anything other than Christ’s death and resurrection.” This highlights Jackson’s error most visibly. Faith is not the ultimate cause of salvation, or a factor in bringing about righteousness, but rather faith simply receives what Christ won and gives in the Word. Another way to put it is: Can one have “saving faith” without Christ’s death and resurrection? No.
The context of the Wikipedia page, from which Jackson took the phrase, is: “It [the LCMS] teaches that Jesus is the focus of the entire Bible and that faith in him alone is the way to eternal salvation. The synod rejects any attempt to attribute salvation to anything other than Christ’s death and resurrection.” So while Jackson can only read the emphasis on Christ’s death and resurrection as against faith, faith is correctly upheld as the only way to salvation in Christ. Faith alone is not against Christ, His saving works, or the forgiveness of the world in Him.
In fact, Scripture directly says that faith without Christ’s resurrection does nothing: “And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Cor. 15:14-19).
Christ’s death, by itself, is not our righteousness, according to Scripture. If Christ was still dead, faith in His death would do nothing, according to God’s Word. His death was the payment Christ made while bearing the sins of the world. But payment is not forgiveness or acceptance of the payment. The resurrection of Christ was not an add-on or unnecessary bonus. Easter proclaims that we are free of our sins, for Christ rose for us—not just for Himself. It was the Father’s action, by the Spirit, to raise our Lord, on our behalf. We—all humanity—are forgiven in Christ. His resurrection signals the Father’s acceptance and mankind’s vindication from the guilt of all sin—from God’s side of things. Faith, in the believer, is not the entire picture of justification. Even “justification by faith” does not even mention our Lord at all! Forgiveness is complete and actually available in Christ, though no one is in Christ without faith. The world is reconciled and justified in Christ. This is why anyone can be forgiven, even an unbeliever, so they may trust the Gospel and be justified personally in time by faith.
So for the deniers of anything beyond or before faith, like Jackson, the righteousness objectively present and given in the Gospel — whether someone believes it or not—can only sound like a denial of faith. Faith for them has replaced Christ. Since faith is everything for them, nothing is allowed before it. But this is not the scriptural teaching of faith—mankind was absolved in Christ, marking the divine verdict, before we were born! Why? Because of Christ, “who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification” (Rom. 4:25). Does our faith depend on how well we believe and turn the Father toward us in faith?
No, “All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation” (2 Cor. 5:18-19). The fact that the Father is already presently reconciled does not mean faith or the preaching of the Gospel is unnecessary. In fact, there could be no faith in a gracious God unless He were already reconciled and not wrathful. We objectively believe in something—that God is truly forgiving toward sinners before anything happens in us. Without this true fact that forgiveness is not incomplete, the Gospel is more law, mere directions about how to go about getting an unfinished righteousness—and faith becomes its completing work.
Christ did not need vindication for His righteousness—that is not why the Son of God became man. Our Lord took on flesh and blood for us—for you and your sin—for the sin of all sinners, every single one. And salvation is not only partially accomplished—forgiveness is for all, even though no one partakes of this righteousness apart from faith, which incorporates in Christ. Faith does not make forgiveness real or the Father appeased—it depends only on Christ. Righteousness, the verdict of justification, exists before faith. Our faith does not create or finish salvation—that would make Christ Himself insignificant. Christian trust is not faith in our faith, as something we do for God—a sort of propitiatory sacrifice. We proclaim Christ crucified, who is not dead and lifeless because of our sins, but alive, risen from the dead for us. So rejoice, there is righteousness for you. It depends only on Christ, who is not dead. Your participation in the Gospel does not make it true, or else you would have a flimsy belief. No, Christ is the content of your faith, and in Him forgiveness is for all mankind. This is what gives the Gospel power—not faith. After all, which comes first: personal faith or the Word which applies Christ’s righteousness? (Rom. 10:14-17)
So is our faith greater than Christ? Must we pick between the two? Is faith unnecessary, because Christ died and rose? No, not at all. No one is saved apart from faith, but faith is not the causesource, or objective foundation of our righteous verdict—that is the error of general Protestantism today: faith (in the believer) is considered more significant than the God who died for our sins and rose for our justification. So the sinner’s response is greater than Christ’s substitution in place of all sinners.
So emphasizing the objective aspect of justification is not a denial of faith alone, but simply says that faith (what happens in the believer) is not the sum total content of Christianity. We do not make Christ rise and the Father reconciled to us in, or because of, our act of believing. There is something objective we believe in, before faith: the Son of God, who has been vindicated in our stead.
To pit faith and Christ against each other, is to lose everything. Scripture upholds both aspects of the Gospel, as do our confessions. The tie between faith and Christ’s universal justification is what we actually believe and receive in the Gospel. The Father is not an angry, un-appeased god until we offer Him the work of our faith—that is what the denial of objective justification must lead to. How could one ever believe in such a god? No, the father is reconciled—it already happened—by Christ. Forgiveness is complete and for all the world in Christ already. But we are conceived unreconciled sinners, so we must be presented with the forgiveness of God in Christ. Only when the righteous God offers us His righteousness, which is for all in Christ, can we believe in Him, in any biblical sense. Otherwise faith must become a cursed work of the law—something that replaces the Savior and causes God to turn from His wrath against our sin. If faith changes the Father, the believer becomes his own savior, in place of Jesus. Salvation, then, would be entirely subjective and personal.
No one is saved apart from faith. Amen. No one is saved apart from Christ’s works, which were received by the Father for us. Amen. No one is saved apart from faith in the resurrected Lord, in whom there is forgiveness for all. There is no contradiction. Amen. —ed.
for He has redeemed, justified, and saved us from our sins as God and man, through His complete obedience; that therefore the righteousness of faith is the forgiveness of sins, reconciliation with God, and our adoption as God’s children only on account of the obedience of Christ, which through faith alone, out of pure grace, is imputed for righteousness to all true believers, and on account of it they are absolved from all their unrighteousness” (SD 3:4).
his merits have been presented as those which make satisfaction for others, which are bestowed by divine imputation on others, in order that through these, just as by their own merits, they may be accounted righteous. As when any friend pays a debt for a friend, the debtor is freed by the merit of another, as though it were by his own. Thus the merits of Christ are bestowed upon us, in order that, when we believe in Him, we may be accounted righteous by our confidence in Christ’s merits as though we had merits of our own. And from both, namely, from the promise and the bestowing of merits, confidence in mercy arises. Such confidence in the divine promise, and likewise in the merits of Christ, ought to be brought forward when we pray. For we ought to be truly confident, both that for Christ’s sake we are heard, and that by His merits we have a reconciled Father” (AP 20:19-20)."

Pietism Is Just as Aggressive as Calvinism and Marxism in Taking Over Minds and Institutions.
Woke Before the Woke Generation

Pickleface Pietist Greta is their patron saint. How dare you question that fact!

Pietism is an aggressive philosophy that imitates its host institution while taking it over, eventually destroying the host. The most powerful and dangerous method is the cell group. Pietism turns the Gospel into Law, repudiating congregational worship and sound doctrine.

Skipping ahead to the oldest and most rotten examples today, let us look at ELCA, the Presbyterians, and the United Church of Christ. They are 100% woke, promoting the latest social justice warrior fads as the ruling norm of their institutions. Each little victory leads to more of the same - and you thought they would calm down?

LCMS-WELS leaders covet ELCA and long to catch up with them. They are closer than Siamese twins.

Pietism kills the concept of the Means of Grace, and the cell group rules over the congregation. The congregation remains, but it is just a place to gather and manage cell groups. Bishop Martin Stephan, STD, did this, adding his robotic and submissive followers as a para-church, attached to the parish. They were glad to see him leave Europe with his disciples (Walther circle) and his mistress.

After Walther led the riot, holding Stephan at gunpoint, robbing him of everything, and kidnapping him to Illinois, the fanatical sect settled down and tried to hide their Pietistic cell group origins. CFW himself, a die-hard Pietist, later confessed that Stephan was "a bit of a Pietist." (Servant of the Word, a hilarious hagiography) For reasons known only to those who appreciate the facts, Walther did not want the early history of Missouri written down.

The enthusiasm for and deception about Church Growth is a good example of how the Calvinist-Pietists take over. The ELS-LCMS-WELS sent their gullible, lazy leaders to Fuller, Willow Creek, and Trinity Divinity to unlearn Lutheran doctrine and practice. Trinity Divinity began in...you guessed it...Pietism.

Back to the rotten roots - But it is for the good of our dear mother synod/denomination (fill in the blanks).

Pietist-Calvinists have these characteristics:

  • They are humorless and dour.
  • They are burdened with the Law and have little joy in life.
  • To make up for their dead, shriveled souls, they look for ecstasy in following celebrities outside the sect and sometimes manufactured inside the sect.

Daffodils and Creeping Charlier in the Creation Garden

Tulips are delicious. Ask mice, squirrels, deer.

The reliable daffodils are in bloom. When I see them pop up before the garden is truly green, I repent of my vow never to buy hardy bulbs again. Ranger Bob noticed I had early, tall, robust blooms in various places of the garden - more than the rest of the yards.

After I dug some new ones in, last fall, Mrs. Ichabod said, "Someone was digging in the garden!" I said, "Yes, I was, with Howard helping. For me, fall gardening means cover everything with leaves and dig in some bulbs."

Ranger Bob came over a short time afterwards. He said with alarm, "Something has really been digging in your soil." I grinned at him and said, "Your Osage heritage is strong. We dug some bulbs in, this week."

Norma Boeckler endorsed Asian lilies, so I bought a few of those bulbs, plus some glads for us and Ranger Bob.

We are enjoying some occasional rains, unlike the super-soakers of last summer. Creeping Charlie, a mint and often called a weed, is spreading in the garden, showing off tiny purple flowers. That is one of the reasons we enjoy so many birds, beneficial insects, bees, and hummingbirds. Each creature has its favorite food sources and secondary ones. Tiny flowers are necessary for tiny insects, and early blooms are appreciated for their pollen.

Roses should be pruned once the frost season is over. That spurs growth in the roots and branches. Rather than slowing down the rose, pruning energizes it. Removing dead wood is also important all summer for keeping the plant awake. Neglected, most roses will leaf out, bloom a little bit, then rest all summer.

Pietism Has Been the Engine of Abuse in Lutherdom - Its Sacrament Is Shunning

I ran into a comment from a couple, again, asking for prayers. One had just been dumped from a long-standing church job, where there is no due process. Lutheran synods may be the last vestige of Stalinism today, and there is only a difference of degree between Missouri, WELS, the ELS, the CLC (sic), and the micro-mini sects. They protect their crooked friends and slander their opponents - even suspected opponents - out of that private heaven they control.

I give all the glory to Pietism, which degenerates into a sad muddle of legalism, abuse, and bigotry. One strange manifestation came up in WELS. If someone did not like the preacher's sermon, he refused to take communion. I thought the sacrament came from God, not from a quality control inspection. Another WELS example was this ultimate test, "Would you take communion with Paul Kelm?" If that is not a shunning question, I give up, because the question has nothing to do with the Means of Grace.

If someone is no longer willing to agree with the synods' (note, plural possessive) slide into the arms of ELCA, they are shunned. This is a precious sacrament today, because it gives them total control. Some are given a public, gradual, and then 100% shunning, so the rest are kept quiet and passive.

I wonder how many bristle against the bullying of Matt the Fatt, or snore while Mirthless Mark goes over the feeble finances. No one will know because fear freezes their emotions. They will gladly overlook felonies and waltzing with ELCA, as long as they can keep their salaries and benefits, their friendly greetings at the clergy meetings, the gracious smiles of the pot-bellied pastoral potentates.

Those who defy their synod will not get an answer, except for the kind of feeling one gets from grabbing an electric fence. Want to do that again? The nastiness increases and multiplies.

I post to give some comfort and encouragement to those tossed out without reason. One person said, "You are the only one who understands me." I described how he was being treated and he sobbed loudly because it was true.

WELS DP Ed Werner was finally imprisoned.

Martin Luther College is proud of their graduate Ed Werner, featuring him recently on their websty.

David Becker Provided the Latest Hale-Storm - Probably To Be Seen in the Fading, Irrelevant Christian News, Cesspool of Chief Article Denial and Rejection

David Becker - "Comment on background.  I had hoped that Pastor Phil Hale had gotten over gratuitously bashing Gregory Jackson, but I guess not.  Maybe he never will.  The below item was posted on the CN blog yesterday, I just saw.  I thought you should see it if you didn't already.  This one hasn't been in CN yet, I don't think - presumably it will be in the next issue.  Hale seems to be claiming that Jackson doesn't believe that Christ's death and resurrection are important and essential.  My approach to Jackson is different.  Check the attachments from July of last year (pp. 7, 9).  Although I have forwarded links to him, I have intentionally not sent any articles to Hale since he became CN editor.  I doubt that any would be printed, since he probably has "radar" that I don't really agree with articles such as the one below.  Hale seems to believe that objective justification as he describes it is essential to salvation.  "To pit faith and Christ against each other, is to lose everything."  But who is pitting faith and Christ against each other?  In any event, my comments are over.  I'm sure you will be commenting on the below link."

Hale is detached from reality - Justification by Faith is the Chief Article of Christianity.

No.
[GJ - Romans 4 and 10 are the norm for forgiveness and salvation, not the political statement of an apostate sect.]
[GJ - Hale, like his ignorant seminary professors, ignores the Scriptures in order to fashion the tattered tapestry of Halle's Objective Justification - universal absolution caused by the resurrection of Christ - without the Word, without faith, without the Means of Grace.]
[GJ - The gassy verbiage above only shows that Hale stays up at night to create a philosophical basis for heresy - rather than deal with the simple, plain wording of the Bible.]
[GJ - This pygmy of pugilism cites Romans 4:25 but not Romans 4:24. Hale must get hives - itching, oozing pustules - from the thought of quoting Genesis 15:6 - And he believed in the Lord; and He counted it to him for righteousness. KJV That is the theme of Romans 4, the entire chapter, summarized in Romans 5:1-2.]
Cub editor Phil Hale is at work replacing doctrine with dogma.

[GJ - The windy editor is in perfect harmony with ELCA and mainline, rationalistic Protestantism.]
Do you wonder why I blame David Scaer for generations of bellicose, bullying, betrayers of the Chief Article of Christianity? Just read the blabber above.

The editors of the Book of Concord commended Luther's Galatians for addition study of Justification by Faith. Why did Abraham rejoice to see the day of Christ centuries before? He believed the Messianic Promises and God counted it to him as righteousness. See John 8:56 - "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day: and he saw it, and was glad."
