Thank you for posting Mr Reu's quotation on unions. Pope St Pius X said the same thing at the turn of the century and declared Modernism a heresy in 1907, largely for the same reasons. Apologies for bringing Catholicism into the picture, but it's interesting how more than one denomination saw the error of workers' movements. On the other hand, we have a history of union 'chapels' -- 'union locals', to those in the US -- with Methodist and other Nonconformist (non-Anglican Protestant) influences here in the UK, hence the name.
Having said that -- and perhaps this is unanswerable -- how else could workers' conditions have improved if it were not for trades unions? I can see this subject from both angles and have always found this an intriguing yet troubling subject.
