Shocking News! Evolution Lost in the Scopes Monkey Trial!

We won!

"In the case Scopes v. State (1925), Scopes was found guilty and fined $100, but, on appeal, the Supreme Court of Tennessee, pointing to a technicality in the issuance of the fine, overturned Scopes’s conviction, while finding the Butler Act constitutional."

Graebner on Evolution - Required Reading at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis

Evolution by Theodore Graebner

Theodore Graebner was a Missouri Synod professor at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, and defender of the Six Day Creation account of Genesis. Though he wrote Evolution many years ago, the points he makes are still valid. This small book can be very helpful to Christians who wish to “detox” from the religion of Scientism.

Table of Contents

Evolution in Text Books

“It is only in high-school texts…that the evolutionary theory as propounded by Darwin is still treated as if it enjoyed among scientific men the same respect as the multiplication table. Speaking in the Darwinian dialect we should say that the authors of these school-texts constitute a case of “arrested development.” – Theodore Graebner, from Evolution: An Investigation and A Criticism

Evolution and the Historical Fact of Christ’s Resurrection

“The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central fact of our Christian belief and it is, rightly understood, the all-sufficient answer to the theory of evolution.
“Christ’s resurrection is an historical fact fully as much as the defeat of Xerxes at Salamis in 480 B. C, the discovery of America by Columbus in 1492, and the peace of Versailles of 1919 are historical facts, proven by the word and record of contemporary witnesses.
“But if Christ was raised then we have proof for the following tenets, all contradicting evolutionary speculation at so many vital points:
“1) The existence of a personal God who is concerned with human affairs;
“2) The reality of miraculous interference with natural forces;
“3) The truth of atonement and the redemption, and
“4) The inspiration of the Old Testament Scriptures (hence also of the creation account in Genesis).
”…a little patient study will bring to light the fact that each of these four basic ideas is dove-tailed, mortised and anchored so firmly in the fact of Christ’s resurrection, that you can get rid of them all only by denying that fact.

Graebner Book To Debut Soon - On Evolution.

Message from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis: "Seminex won and reconquered the school while everyone was asleep. They nodded off in an opium pipe dream about huge numbers coming from Fulleroid teaching."

Alec Satin: Came across a reference to this in the second to last chapter of Graebner's book on Evolution, in which he writes,

"So marvelous are the provisions which are made up ensure the fertilization of plants that the dean of American botanists, Professor Asa Gray, exclaims: "If these structures and their operations do not argue intention, what stronger evidence of intention in nature can there possibly be? If they do, such evidences are countless, and almost every blossom brings distinct testimony to the existence and providence of a Designer and Ordainer, without whom, we may well believe, not merely a sparrow, not even a grain of pollen, may fall." (On this entire subject read Selina Gaye's "The Great World's Farm," published by the MacMillan Co., New York.)

Well, here is a slightly abridged version of The Great World's Farm.  It looks like something you might very well enjoy.

WELS Agrees with LCMS Demi-Semi-Quasi Creation Stance.
2019 To Bring Unified Assault of Justification by Faith

Mirthless Mark Schroeder at Calvin Chapel, "I know UOJ is in here somewhere, but I just cannot find it right now. Where's my NIV?"

I hacked the WELS app to buzz me whenever the sect discovered a new Church Growth Principle, but the repeated alerts annoyed me. Now I rely on confidential DP informants.

One source reported Schroeder reaching an agreement with Matt the Fatt on Creation. That had me confused. Is Mark ready to accept the Seminex takeover of Concordia, St. Louis? That is not much of a leap, since they already published a Book of Concord with ELCA's primary gay activist - the Kolb-Wengert.

Concordia, St. Louis professors say arguing for Creation violates the 8th Commandment.

We had a New Year's Eve hymn service tonight, which made me think about lyrics from Gerhardt, who is praised once a century and then forgotten again.

2. He whom the sea and wind obey
Doth come to serve the sinner in great
meekness.
Thou, God's own Son, with us art one,
Dost join us and our children in our
weakness.
The Lutheran Hymnal
Hymn #81
Text: Luke 2: 7
Author: Paul Gerhardt, 1653, cento

3. "Yea, Father, yea, most willingly
I'll bear what Thou commandest;
My will conforms to Thy decree,
I do what Thou demandest."
O wondrous Love, what hast Thou done!
The Father offers up His Son!
The Son, content, descendeth!
O Love, how strong Thou art to save!
Thou beddest Him within the grave
Whose Word the mountains rendeth.
The Lutheran Hymnal
Hymn #142
Text: Is. 53: 7
Author: Paul Gerhardt, 1648, cento

Should Lutherans now contradict the Scriptures, the Scriptural Confessions, and the Scriptural hymns to agree with Concordia Seminary in St. Louis? Should the LCMS and WELS abandon any pretense of singing Gerhardt, speaking low in Milwaukee lest the King of Creation be mentioned on the streets of Clayton?

Simply put, denying the power of God to create the universe through the Logos (John 1:3) is nothing less than a rejection of Genesis 1 as explained clearly in John 1. This equivocation by the Neo-Seminex Romanists subverts the entire Apostles Creed. I am not going to mention Luther, because he is nothing more to LCMS-WELS than a gimmick to sell trinkets during the right season.

Paul McCain, whose statue Wilken will build, donating his own money to pay for the extra supplies of bronze.
Are Matt the Fatt and Mirthless Mark kidding everyone that Objective Justification talks are in the future? They did not have a synod executive or seminary professor try to put across the fiction that Luther taught their precious OJ. They put up Jay Webber and Honest Jon Buchholz for the job. People stayed home in droves. Emmaus beat Natalie Pratt's conference attendance by only a few people.

WELS and Missouri sold their members down the river decades ago, because both sects taught Justification by Faith until the apostates began their slow infiltration of all positions of influence.

I will run this graphic one more time, in case some forgot it from a few hours ago. Then please tell me how someone takes the theme of the entire Bible, the German Reformation. and basic Protestantism and buries it alive, replacing it with Universalism.

Transcending the Evolution Arguments

Ken Ham, creationist, debated Bill Nye, atheist.
I posted one article criticizing the approach Ken Ham took when debating Ken Ham. The theme seemed to be - Ham should have used better science. More representative of Evangelical-Pentecostals going mod, Pat Roberts thinks Ken Ham is an embarrassment to modern Christians.

I can understand going over the arguments. Children are fascinated with such topics as dinosaurs. Most boys go through a dinosaur phase and perhaps a rock/fossil phase as well. Everyone is inundated with a stream of evolutionary arguments.

My mother was told, as a docent at the St. Louis Zoo, that nothing about Creation would be tolerated.

I grew up in a public school system where we sang Christmas songs (without scandal) and talked about evolution and Creation without polarization. Many of my teachers, like my mother, were also Sunday School teachers, not exactly enemies of the faith.

I listened to a few minutes of the Ham-Nye debate, which was widely promoted. I previously heard Ken Ham when he spoke in NW Arkansas, since he was here to raise funds for Noah's Ark. I had no argument with Ham's line of reasoning when he was talking. However, I am not keen on the customary ways of disproving evolution.

I question the merit of using human reason to argue with the rationalism of evolution. Although my objections were found irritating, they were supported by the reaction of atheists on the Internet. They were openly scornful of Ham and in awe of Nye, who was given a Humanist of the Year Award for his promotion of atheism.

First of all, I believe in the Creation of the universe by the Son of God, the Creating Word, as revealed in Genesis 1 and John 1. Nothing was created apart from Him. And this happened in six 24-hour days.

The Creation of the Bible is a mystery revealed by the Holy Spirit. Luther pointed out that church history shows all kinds of variations on Creation, as if it were a contest in writing fiction.

Today is no better. The "conservative" Lutherans pose as believers in Creation but they do not believe in the efficacy of the Word. Why else do they camp out at the conferences of gay activist Andy Stanley, Babtist Rick Warren, cussin' Mark Driscoll, and other assorted clowns?

Although Bill Nye is not really a scientist as most assume, he still has credentials in engineering and also as a corporate trainer. He is not a PhD in any field.

If I had to debate a scientist or engineer on this topic, I would not try to out-science him. Instead, I would ask the ultimate religious questions.

I found the key issue when working on my book about gardening with earthworms. As gardeners realize, there is a constant emphasis in those books on the purpose of the bee in pollination, the purpose of the ant in removing the dead from the surface, the purpose of nodules in legumes to fix nitrogen, and so forth.

Although the design argument is one that naturally follows from believing in Creation, the issue of purpose is a philosophical one that transcends the evolution argument. The scientist, writing about nature, said he could not address the issue of purpose, because it was essentially a religious question. Then I said, "Aha."

Composter realize the intricacy of purpose around us. Almost all plant and animal life on earth is sustained by the top 12 inches of soil. Trees also get much of their nutrition from this layer. So in this layer is an ocean of life, each creature depending on others, yet eating and being devoured by others. This intricacy extends to the exchange of ions, because organic soil releases ions more readily, leading to better and healthier plants.

Compost speeds up the normal, choreographed action of the top layer of soil. Nitrogenous matter heats up and breaks down. Molds attack cell structure. Creatures of rot attack the mold and eat each other: sowbugs, pill bugs, centipedes, millipedes, and earthworms. The final result is composted soil, bursting with life and ready to improve any soil type.

Not only is the purpose of each element and creature defined, but they all work together for one common purpose. Will this convince the atheist? I think not, but it does transcend the evolution argument.

I was handed a Creation book about dinosaurs, which ended, "Now that you know the truth about dinosaurs, it is time to make a decision for Christ. Let us pray the sinners prayer..."

I doubt whether dinosaurs can convert anyone. Instead, those who hear the Gospel and believe the message will realize also that the power to absolve is also the power to create - by the Word.

Evolutionists give away Creation from time to time, in their verbiage. One TV program described sharks as "a perfect designed killing machine that suddenly emerged...."

We often shouted "Another argument for evolution" when one of those ecstatic pronouncements was uttered with evolutionary piety on TV. One excludes the other, just as the term creature encapsulates the divine mystery of Creation.

Evolution and Creation

bruce-church (http://bruce-church.myopenid.com/) has left a new comment on your post "Sola Fide - WELS Argues Against the Book of Concor...":

The ELS college at Mankato present both creationism and evolution, but only prefers creationism. Also, a couple LCMS Concordia Colleges have the same view. Moreover, Issues Etc has Riddlebarger and other Reformed professors on their show a lot, and they believe in theistic evolution, just like their main seminary does.

------------

Stances on creation vs evolution:

http://www.icr.org/article/creationist-colleges/

Bethany: 4 - Both views are presented as possible explanations for the development of life forms, but Creation is favored.

Westminster Seminary: 5 - God created all life forms, but they appeared in the general sequence and time frame suggested by evolutionist theory.

No, what is a bit more bothersome to me is how Dowd says he was convinced of evolution by conservative Christians who believed Darwinian evolution is compatible with the Christian faith because, as they said, "all truth is God's truth." Sadly, I hear this sort of muddled apologetic coming from Greg Koukl, whom I happen to like, Kim Riddlebarger and Ken Samples, and of course Hugh Ross.
