A Bigger Crime Than the Biggest Breaking Scandals - The Biblical Text

It all depends on how we read it, eh?

Very few clergy know Hebrew and Greek. Hardly any clergy have a working knowledge of Greek, which is fairly easy to learn. Of that group of New Testament Greek users, a tiny fraction are familiar with text criticism.

Like the Three Gorges Dam, the modern Bible starts out without a direct connection to bedrock. They were in a hurry to build the dam, which was a money-maker, so they did not dig all the way down to the bedrock. Bibles are money-makers, so there is hardly such a thing as a new Bible that does not gush money for the sponsors.

Profiles in discourage - WELS President Schroeder hated the New NIV but went along with approving all translations, which made the NIV the official Calvinist, Objective Justification Bible.

Key people working on the text of the New Testament were apostates and charlatans, so they created their own foundation material by attacking the traditional text, the basis for Luther's Bible and the KJV. Tischendorf had his pets - Sinaiticus and Vaticanus. Hort had his fakey text theories spun out of his head and designed to remove the traditional text, which he loathed.

  • Picking a starting date of 1880, we can see that it only took 140 years for the traditional text of the Bible to be cast out like a leper,
  • from congregations,
  • from colleges,
  • from seminaries,
  • from any discussion of the Bible.

From 1950 until now, the KJV went from dominant and trusted to rejected and distrusted.

ELDONA prides itself on being almost 100% pure Ft. Waynish, the seminary for guys who do not know Hebrew or Greek, with some possible exceptions. The practical seminary was designed for those without an academic foundation for theology, which used to mean - for Biblical studies. Want a call but in a hurry? - skip the foundation and get an MDiv from Ft. Wayne.

ELDONA has no use for the KJV or any modernized KJV (New KJV, KJV 21, etc). They like the outrageous NIV and the equally laughable ESV, both thoroughly Calvinistic and corrupt.

The same is true of the Little Sect on the Prairie, the Missouri Synod, and the Wisconsin Abusive Sect.

Now that the text is an adiaphoron, so is the translation a matter of indifference. The whipped cream decorating the cow paddy is "dynamic equivalence," turning the original text (OK, ignore that concept) turning the invented text into what the Holy Spirit really meant but was incapable of articulating.

The results are in. Statistically -

  1. No one is using the original text, with very few exceptions.
  2. No one is using a precise translation of the original text.
  3. Vast numbers are learning from the New NIV that "the entire world is forgiven," Romans 3.
Many individual words are removed, too, and the traditional translation is footnoted to indicate there is another way of understanding it - young woman, instead of virgin in Isaiah 7.

New Program for WELS New Hymnal

"The challenge was great - how to make and sell a new hymnal even worse than Tiefel's Christian Worship. It is like the NIV issue, when we searched for a new NIV that was even worse than the classic NIV. All for attracting more people to our beloved WELS! People are going to complain, but we are doing this for the youth, for growth. We hired a DMin from Fuller who is also a life-coach to helm a new program to pacify the members and elderly pastors. In short, beatings and excommunications will continue until morale improves."

Meet our new life-coach, Rev. Hategood, Fuller D.Min.
His motto is - "If you do not like the hymnal, you ought to leave the synod." That worked so well with the terrible Tiefel tome.

Staggering Dishonesty in WELS Biblical Fraud

The EHV is currently doing well in WELS.

The navigation for Defeat the New NIV Translation can be found here.

The post links to many other informational articles and remains one of the most read, in spite of the 2011 date.

Supposedly their new Extra High Voltage is surging to 50,000 copies. They call it Evangelical Heritage Version, which is not hip enough for me.

I came across some documents used to foist the New NIV on WELS. They show the poverty of Biblical knowledge in WELS, the abundance of deception use to get their way - and they did.

The Translation Evaluation Committee (Supplemental Report, 2011 Convention) was a farce.

"Why would anyone want to revise a translation as popular as the NIV?" - they ask with feigned innocence.

The NIV was planned for future improvements. WELS decided not to do its own translation, at first, but went ahead with the EHV.

They used a public domain base to get the work done, so it was not really "their" translation. The EHV tendency overall is to repair the idiocy of the old NIV and the worse idiocy of the New NIV. But the EHV fouls up the Great Commission, so the CG force is stronger than translation precision. Jesus taught His disciples to "teach all nations" - not to "make disciples" (Fuller Seminary) or "gather disciples" (EHV).

The Southern Baptists rejected the New NIV and ordered it not put on the shelves of their bookstores. The WELS wolves sheepishly posing by the sign did not listen to the Baptists. The New NIV is official, baked in, love it or enjoy the Left Foot of Fellowship from WELS.

WELS Staggering Dishonesty
The Translation Evaluation Committee 2011 gives away the plot and reveals why the seminary was slavering to make the New NIV official - Romans 3:22-24!

The bad old NIV translated it as "all have sinned and fallen short...and are justified freely by his grace..."

But the wonderful New NIV has - "all have sinned and fallen short...and all are justified freely by his grace..." [GJ - all is bolded and underlined in the printed copy I have.]

The Greek text did not change, but the mainline apostates (which include WELS, LCMS, and ELCA) clamored for the extra all.

The dogma of Universalism is far more important to them, even in the guise of Objective Justification, than Biblical truth is.

The section means simply, as Luther explained - all have sinned and those who are justified are only justified through faith in Jesus.

For the pinheads in WELS, grace means universal forgiveness and opposes faith. However, St. Paul clearly stated -
Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace...

Their denial and rejection of faith is obnoxious and wrong, but now they have their New NIV to comfort them in their apostasy.

Quoting the WELS false teachers in battle array against the Gospel -

"The addition of the little word "all" is significant, since it clarifies Paul's intended meaning: God has declared all guilty sinners not guilty by his gracious, saving work in Christ Jesus." [bold and underlining in the original printed copy]

Note the WELS language in large print above the graphic, clearly a case of the sect "building and correcting" by adding an all that is not in Romans 3 or anywhere else in the Scriptures. Paul really intended to teach universal absolution, WELS is saying, and now they can make him say it.

WELS Wants You To Buy Your Sacrament Free - No Means of Grace - New NIV. From 2011

Valleskey, the previous Mequon seminary president went to Fuller Seminary, so Paul Wendland is continuing the trend toward anti-Lutheran, mainline apostasy. The first VP of WELS studied at Fuller, and Larry Olson is a Fuller Demon.

marco has left a new comment on your post "Sausage Factory President Paul Wendland's NNIV Cam...":

I was wondering and would very much appreciate if you could give your own version of the top ten verses that argue for the KJV to be used over that of the NNIV. And give your reasoning for each of the 10 verses you choose.

Murdoch has more influence on WELS-LCMS-ELS than Luther does. The KJV is essentially the English version of the Luther Bible, but do not mention that. The Fuller Demons will say, "We don't worship Luther!"

***

GJ - I am happy to help out, Marco. I selected eight easy examples, with my explanations in purple,  below each set.

Genesis 4:1

NNIV
1 Adam[a] made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.[b] She said, “With the help of the LORD I have brought forth[c] a man.”
Genesis 4:1 a - Or The man

KJV
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

GJ - The NNIV has created two major problems with Genesis 4:1. The first is the corruption of a perfectly good verb - to know. This verb is used exactly the same way in Hebrew, Greek, and English. The deeper meaning of the verb has been trivialized to mean the act itself. This is a Bible for ninnies - the Ninny-veh edition. This problem emerges again in Luke 1:34, where Mary says, "34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” But Mary said, KJV and Greek, "Since I know not a man."
The second problem comes up in the footnote and in many subsequent footnotes. They change the meaning of the Word of God, to make the verse repudiate what the verse plainly reveals. Adam and Eve were actually people, not symbolic myths, but the footnote tells the reader that Adam, as a pun on "man," really stands for humankind evolved from the primates. Therefore, humankind and womenfolk conceived the symbolic Cain. The inventor of NNIV dynamic translation (sic) was Nida, a pea-brained liberal. Oh yes, WELS is hotter than Georgia asphalt for inerrancy, as SP Schroeder claims, except when it comes to picking Bibles.

Isaiah 7:13-14

NNIV
13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14Therefore the Lord himself will give you[a] a sign: The virgin[b] will conceive and give birth to a son, and[c] will call him Immanuel.[d]
Isaiah 7:14 a - Or young woman

KJV

14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 13And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

GJ - Some may remember the scandal of the RSV (created by the left-wing National Council of Churches) denying the Virgin Birth in Isaiah 7. The NNIV denies the Virgin Birth in a footnote, claiming that the Hebrew word simply means "young woman." This rendering, though false, has great appeal for mainline apostates, who reject the Virgin Birth and the divinity of Christ. "Error loves ambiguities," so now the plain meaning of Isaiah 7 could be this or that. Could this be why the Southern Baptists voted against the NNIV, against displaying it in their own bookstores?

Matthew 26:28

NNIV
28 This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
a - Matthew 26:28 Some manuscripts the new

KJV
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

GJ - A testament is a one-sided promise. I can give all my money and property, to an heir - without the knowledge or consent of that person. That is called a Last Will and Testament.
A covenant is two-sided, so the non-Lutheran Protestants have favored the term covenant. Testament emphasizes that Christ's atoning sacrifice is payment for the sins of the world, whether anyone believes or not. WELS pretends to be against synergism but accepts this implied synergism. Synergism means that God acts but man "completes the transaction."

Matthew 28:18-20

NNIV
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

KJV

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven

and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

GJ - Fuller Seminary, which is a mainline school, and most Protestants love the false rendering of the Great Commission. The original text clearly says, "Go teach all nations." The Fuller-mainline-Baptist version reads "Go make disciples." The original meaning is in harmony with the Biblical efficacy of the Word, teaching rather than making. "Making disciples" puts the burden on man, turning a Gospel imperative into Law. The Fuller disciples in the Synodical Conference go crazy when someone tries to take away their "make disciples" passage, so they love the NNIV. The Means of Grace are central in the three verbs - Go, teach, baptize. The three verbs also harmonize with the naming of the Trinity - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Mark 16:8-20

NNIV

8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.[a]
[The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.]
9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.

12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. 13 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.

14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

KJV
8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. 9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. 10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. 12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of
them, as they walked, and went into the country. 13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. 14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs
shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

GJ - Tischendorf promoted two ancient manuscripts (Vaticanus, Sinaiticus) of the New Testament as the best possible ones, far better than the thousands of copies from the Greek, Christian Byzantine Empire. Tischendorf's favorites do not always agree with each other. They also depart from the traditional texts preserved from the earliest days of the Christian faith, which grew first in the Eastern (Byzantine) Roman Empire. When the new translations began dropping the ending of Mark into a footnote, it was the next stage of apostasy. Rationalism first disputed the miracles of the Bible, then the canon of Bible. Tischendorf, Wescott, and Hort sound like a law firm, but this particular trio placed the text of the Bible in doubt, so an anything goes translation was sure to follow.

Here is a lot of statistical evidence about the ending of Mark.
Romans 3:21-25
NNIV
21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[b] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
KJV

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

GJ - WELS was dying for Biblical support of Universal Objective Justification, which was entirely lacking until the NNIV was invented. Halle University, as it moved from Pietism to Rationalism, gave birth to double-justification via Professor Knapp, whose turgid work is still in print. UOJ passed into mainline Protestantism and the Synodical Conference at the same time, but UOJ had a rough time until 1932. Notice that the second all in the NNIV takes the Apostle Paul by the shoulders and tells him what he should have written in the first place.

1 Corinthians 10:16
NNIV
16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
KJV

16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

GJ - Lutherans teach the Sacraments - or they used to - and the others do not. Communion is an odious word to the anti-Sacrament crowd. They like other words, neutral words, meaningless words. WELS is anti-Sacramental. They begin their Emergent Church embarrassments without the Sacraments and hate to host Holy Communion. See The CORE and CrossWalk in Phoenix for examples. CrossRoads in S. Lyons, Michigan, called the Sacraments "ordinances" when they began. Now that parish is honestly not Lutheran instead of dishonestly Lutheran. WELS will follow CrossRoads in the same direction with the NNIV.

1 Peter 3:20-21

NNIV
20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[a] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
1 Peter 3:21 a - Or but an appeal to God for a clear conscience

KJV

1 Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

GJ - This wild-hair NNIV reading is similar to other mainline evasions. Why not remove both Sacraments from the Bible? That is not really possible, but one step is mixing up a clear statement of the efficacy of the Word in Holy Baptism.

Wendland promoted the New NIV with the help of Dr. Moo, on loan from Wheaton College. Pope John the Malefactor, BA, said not a word.

WELS - Will My Grandchildren Have a Place To Worship the Synod?

Together, they destroyed more congregations than the Chicago Fire, but they made a lot of money doing it. Give them that much.

The WELS money-grubbing letter from Jonathan Hein is a hoot, to paraphrase Steve Spencer. Ever since the sect embraced the Church Shrinkage Movement (now called Attritional), they have lost members faster than Sears has lost customers. What have they done in response? The sect has pumped up the volume of praise bands, pipe organ bashing, sermonless rants, and munchies during the sneaker service (imitating that prince of a man, Hybels, Willow Creek).

Mirthless Mark Schroeder went to Appleton to bail out Ski, as Engelbrecht bragged in writing. However, I was the cause of all the troubles in the Anything Goes District. Did I write and post the infamous Ski sermon? Ha.

Let us pause to consider the pastoral care offered by Glende and Ski at St. Peter in Freedom, Wisconsin. When a long-standing member challenged them correctly about their plagiarized sermons, the DP backed up the Booze Brothers and Glende/Ski excommunicated the member. Open the back door - extend the Left Foot of Fellowship.

They were so full of themselves and the suds that they drove one staff member after another away - one pastor after a few months, Bishop Katy, and then the woman whose husband they sued four ways from Sunday. That was Glende's genius in Illinois, bullying members so he could get what he wanted. That is another WELS congregation closed instead of serving a university population. No one will say that, because the Boy Wonder is Brug's nephew.

That is just a microcosm of the abusive sect. The slander tossed at the Kavanaugh family now is a nice sample of what WELS clergy, DPs, and SP do when crossed. Do you think the evil lies against the judge are bad? WELS does the same to their workers, the families of the workers, and even the extended families. But it all depends, of course. If someone is from the right family, he can do no wrong and gets another call. If he knows the right people, the same is true. But the vast majority are treated like plantation slaves and cringe at the voice of the DP.

Katy Perry lights the dreams of the Booze Brothers.

The WELS Tetzel says it is up to the congregations to increase in size. Pardon me while I reach for my oxygen hose. Laughing this hard makes my lips turn blue. This wonderful solution comes from the sect that has:

  1. Abandoned and repudiated Justification by Faith.
  2. Promoted the evil, false NIV on its members and publications.
  3. Choked the traditional liturgy to death.
  4. Mocked the Book of Concord while devilishly posing as Quia Marias in public.
  5. Allowed the Mark Jeske Crime Family to run the synod without being elected, skimming money from all the funds to lubricate their ELCA-centric agenda.
  6. Welcomed the Odd Couple Ministry of Starr, Barefoot, and the Boys in the Band.
  7. Driven away faithful members and workers.
  8. Absolved felons (murder, child sex trafficking, love letters to children).
  9. Wasted money at Fuller Seminary, Trinity Divinity, and Willow Creek.
  10. Squandered the Schwan money, just as furiously as the MilCraft estate was ruined (which was the estate's fault, doncha know).
  11. Looked the other way when all the clergy and teachers were being trained that the only path to success was in following the anti-Lutheran, feminist, mainline growth hives. Management by Objectives - that is the cure - not the efficacious Word in the Means of Grace.
  12. Pretended to be awash in the Gospel when really legalistic, self-centered bullies of the worst kind, even when sober.

Jonathan Hein: "Open the front door and shut the back door."

I am helpless with laughter. When I confronted DP Bob Mueller about his anti-Scriptural reign, he said angrily, "If you don't like it, leave." The solution in WELS is never to face their failure to follow the Scriptures and Confessions. No, "in our circles, orthodoxy means whatever we say it means." When they say "Write a letter," they mean, "Please take the first step in being excommuncated."

 Sadler - his graphic. Belch.
Alcoholism is a career enhancer in WELS.

"We have a program."

Has anyone heard that before? The Babtists always have a program of sanctification. This is going to cost a lot of money, I am sure.

"This is not about WELS. This is about souls."

They were soooo concerned, they let a healthy congregation in Illinois be ruined by Tim Glende, and he urged everyone to close the parish after he abandoned it - so everyone could forget.

"We need your prayers, your service, and your moolah."

WELS had the biggest charitable gift ever, the Schwan Foundation, gushing all kinds of money. The bosses hired their buddies and doubled the staff at the Love Shack. They spent money like Congressmen and the results were even worse.

The WELS executives get the highest salaries and benefits, doing the least work in the Means of Grace.

Mordor in Mequon does not have a single Lutheran professor.

Martin Luther College - looking for a few good men, cuz
"We make a good man better."

Martin Luther College is openly LBTQ, but shhh, do not tell anyone. They have to be, to get their gubmint money. It too is failing, shrinking, but still staggeringly expensive.

WELS/ELS could not get enough of this genius.
They love adulterous false teachers.

There's a Place for Us - Mequon!

Cue West Side Story music -
"There's a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we're halfway there.
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow,
Some day,
Mequon!"

Wendland lobbed this stinkbomb at the WELS convention
when they first considered the New NIV.
At the next one, vocal opposition was silenced and all translations were blessed as coming from God.

Gadarene Swine or Berans - The Internet Is Wide Open for Searching

Whee! Everyone is doing this!
Join the movement!

The latest post in the New Testament text is an example of the flummery being foisted upon us. That is why we must all be Bereans searching the Scriptures rather than Gadarene swine running off the cliff.

I am not sure what the website promotes, but the graphic is good.

If you read the previous post and carefully consider all the evidence, you will see that the modern text of the New Testament rests upon the fraudulent work of one man who really wanted to become famous.

And Tischendorf is justly famous for making his two miraculous discoveries the norm for the New Testament text - and even better for the apostates - demolishing the concept of a fixed New Testament text.

You Don't Believe This! Sehr komisch!
Tischendorf reported in his 1865 book Wann Wurden Unsere Evangelen Verfasst, translated to English in 1866 as When Were Our Gospels Written in the section "The Discovery of the Sinaitic Manuscript" that he found, in a trash basket, forty-three sheets of parchment of an ancient copy of the Greek Old Testament, reporting that the monks were using the trash to start fires. And Tischendorf, horrified, asked if he could have them.

Do most people warm their libraries by burning animals skins - parchment? I wonder if Tischendorf's adventures inspired the literary career of a CPH editor, famous for posting thank-you comments when he plagiarized the blogs of Lutheran friends and The Catholic Encyclopedia.

Questioning Tischendorf's fable punctures
the great deception, so keep your voices down.

Your Modern Translation Is Based Upon the Tischendorf Deception
Tischendorf, Wescott and Hort worked together to make the two fake discoveries the basis for the New Testament text, so verses magically disappear from the Greek text and never make it to the English text. In some cases, the missing verses appear in small italic print at the bottom of the page.

The German Bibles still say "nach Luther" after Luther's version, even today, but the English versions are in a rush to avoid mentioning any flavor of the KJV.

That means your beloved

  1. NIV
  2. RSV
  3. New RSV
  4. New NIV
  5. ESV
  6. The Message
  7. Etc. etc. etc.

is based on the Tischendorf lie. What should astound us is the logic - that this recent find should displace the thousands of examples of the traditional text.

Those unfamiliar with NT scholarship, as it styles itself, should realize that certain theories mesh well with the Tischendorf myths. One is that the Gospel of Mark is the earliest Gospel - and the most reliable. Matthew and Luke used Mark and the never-discovered Q to form their Gospels. What a miracle! I should write Q on pigskin and discover it. No one can even define Q, but it is just as handy as the magical characters kids invent to place the blame for missing toys, broken windows, and other misdemeanors.

The late Nils A. Dahl, Yale University,
studied under Bultmann, Mowinkel, etc.
He was a kind and gracious man.

The greatest NT scholar I have known was Nils A. Dahl, who studied under all the greats of Europe. Krister Stendahl called Dahl the greatest exegete in the world, no small honor. Dahl said, "No one really knows the way Matthew, Mark, and Luke were written."

But careers are made on arguments about such theories, which always leave out any suggestion of the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

The same argument can be turned around, looking at common elements of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Mark could very well be a harmony and a condensed version of Matthew and Luke, because everything in Mark can be found in Matthew or Luke or both Gospels. There are only two short passages unique to Mark, the seed growing secretly and the streaker.

So, if Mark must be early, simple, and reliable, it also helps to deny the divinity of Christ in the first verse, which is really an introduction to the entire Gospel, a thesis sentence in modern essay writing. If only one tradition, of uncertain origin, offers such a reading, why would the world scholars reject 11 centuries of Greek Christianity, which is where the Christian Church first flourished?

Modern New Testament scholarship has little to do with the content of the Bible, so the Trilateral Commission of Tischendorf-Wescott-Hort goes well with Biblical literature as a creative writing exercise.

When someone argues that his favorite modern translation is superior, as for Mark 1:1. Is the Son of God omitted, as Wescott-Hort argued?

Did that family of translations convert the Virgin Birth of Isaiah 7 become an ordinary pregnancy? The RSV reminds me of ladies shampoos, which I put on the shelf at Walmart. There is not just one brand, like Suave, but various series of sub-brands of Suave, and variations on those sub-brands, so they occupy rows of shampoo in similar, well designed bottles. Any particular preference could be answered by Suave!

RSV
The R stands for Radical. The S represents Standard, after an old favorite the American Standard Bible. The V is a nod to the KJV or Authorized Version, just for laughs. They could not sell many if they said "National Council of Communist Churches" Version.

If they change the R to an E, they have a run of RSVs with a Calvinist editor. But they can extend the RSVs into many sub-categories.

Wendland said this at the WELS convention,
in defence of the New NIV.

New NIV
The New NIV is even more clever than the RSV business. Once the New NIV was in print, the old NIV ceased to exist. I can no longer look up old NIV readings on Biblegateway.com, which is an NIV website.

Moreover, no publishing house is allowed to continue printing NIV materials using the old NIV. They must reprint everything in New NIV, which has supplanted the old NIV using the same name.

Do the denominations receive incentives for bowing at the NIV altar? I am sure of it. WELS used a Wheaton cow, Dr. Moo, to promote the New NIV among the ordination hopefuls. Did any Mordor student even imagine he could go against the favorite error of Wendland? I doubt. it.

Thus Tischendorf-Wescott-Hort are driving the Biblical message among all modern Bibles, with the Bible hucksters remaining studiously silent about the King James family. I am not keen about the Babtist New KJV, but at least it shares the text with the KJV.

So far I have not seen a significant difference in the KJV21 or the Third Millenium Bible - that is - no reason to switch. Yes, I find some opaque terms in the KJV, like chambering, but a little study shows it means bed-hopping, based on the original term. A little more study does not hurt the clergy or the laity.

Sadly - or happily - the laity drive clergy study by asking the basic questions.
