Every Single Day, A Bright Light - Which Penetrates the Doom

What can one man do? Very little, but the Word can do everything - and does.

For many different reasons - all perfectly natural - people feel the doom settling over the United States and the Western nations. Whenever we think the destruction has reached its peak, even worse dictates - by governments and movie stars - shadow daily life. I hope for a better future for grandchildren and for the elderly, and that may not happen.

I do not think about how a day has gone by or what work has to be done. I focus on a bright light, which is a publishing event for me - one or two blog posts about Biblical doctrine. A bunch of ne're-do-wells attacked those posts from the start, when 100 views a day were super. I read the insults and corrupt thinking to Christine, and she was really hurt, especially when I laughed long and hard. It took her some time to adjust and enjoy the humor of these ordained but anonymous thinkers at work. The Jesuit trained Kilcrease liked to post something and erase it, so I copied each of his posts and put them in a safe place, my next post. One of attackers, well known but now dead, tried his best in public to get me fired at a university, but I continued and he did not.

Luther's sermons taught me a long time ago that opponents are the ones who teach us - see the graphic above. My best source for teaching and writing is Luther's Sermons. I was outraged by the neglect of his work and the moronic "Luther" trinkets that came from Concordia Publishing House. First the Luther Sermons were uploaded onto the blogsite. Then a group of us edited the volumes for printing. I suddenly realized that all of us need daily reminders of Luther's Sermons, so I began Daily Luther Quotes on this blog. If I wake up at 2 AM, I post another selection. If Charlie Sue wakes me up, I start posting.

The only true light is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, growing up to be a Teacher and miracle worker, healing the sick, lepers, and deaf, raising the dead, suffering torture and death on the cross for our sins, rising from the dead and ascending to Heaven to manage His Kingdom.

Every day, we can do something to share this Light.

Major Changes in the Ichabod Blog

The recent blackout of Vimeo during the worship service moved us to look for better options. We began with Ustream, which IBM took over and abandoned. Next came Vimeo, which started to improve but was too late for that.

The stats show over 21,000 posts; the topic of apostasy has been covered in great detail.

I am going to move the content into video and write a lot less. I will continue the Daily Luther Sermon Quotes and also post Biblical doctrine videos. Teaching New Testament Greek is definitely on the schedule, and Bethany will not charge $3,000 but $0. The larger figure is for "summer Greek," the excuse produced by unserious seminaries.

Blog Graveyard Expands

"Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel and paper by the truckload." - Old Journalist Saying

LutherQuest (sic) and Steadfast Lutherans (sic) are on life support now, barely able to publish soporific filler.

This advice may be too late, but I always tell my graduate students, "Copy and paste is not research or writing, and it will one day get you into trouble when people copy your timeless tosh and compare it on Google."

How much synodical wisdom is copied and pasted from Fuller?

I Laughed at This Concept - The Citizen Journalist - Now Coming True

"The article on which the Church... oh, I am too sleepy after coffee with cream and danish."

My adventures in journalism began at Coolidge Junior High, so English class was journalism class, and I helped with the student paper in a small way. Classes with credit came along later when I decided to add enough MA hours to qualify for teaching writing. True, I already had books and articles, plus teaching about 70 classes on how to write. But the suits who run higher education like credit, so I took some classes  until I reached 20 hours.

One expert predicted, around 2006, that that citizen journalists would take over as the big newspaper empires collapsed. I did not think it would happen, even though I published independently to sneak past the watchful Objective Justification dragons. One morbidly obese bureaucrat made sure that even my ads on Logia were banned.

Blogging made it easy to publish the religion page and I had some hopes that more would do the same independently. But nothing is too good to be spoiled by their Father Below. The founder of Intrepid Lutherans was the first to bail out, doubtless pushed by the new Martin Luther, Mirthless Mark Schroeder. The nauseating Steadfast Lutherans began as lapdogs of OJ and Matt the Fat Harrison.

Nevertheless, the collapse of the mainlines will continue with the soi-disant Conservative Lutherans chanting their eulogies to their departing co-conspirators.

Meanwhile, the political blogs have taken off with great energy and resources. I find the big conservative sites rather tame and watered down. Independent writers with their own little blogs are providing what was predicted years ago. Everyone can record, research, and publish.

The reaction of the overfed yet under-read church bureaucrats has not been, "We should fix this!" No, they agree - "We must silence this."

This is how church bureaucrats see themselves.

Discipline in the LCMS-WELS-ELCA-ELS means applying the lash - in love.

It should be a major news item in a blog, when an ELCA pastor who has posted 10,000+ times is arrested. The ALPB+ Online Forum, the Sominex of Lutherdom discussion sites, has ignored their own story. Pride is not something to keep hidden, or celebrated only one month a year. Charles Austin is quick to snap at anyone who questions the isms of ELCA; he is always endorsing the cutting edge. He should be first to discuss the inevitable, given his synod's alphabet soup, which ends with a plus.
From Seminex to Sominex, the ALPB Online Forum is definitely non-habit-forming.

They could even hat-tip with a slight name change - ALPB+ Online Forum, elegant and subtle.

+1. Dicipleship! Spelling don't count!

The other popular post is about Ed Stetzer, who copyrighted this magnificent four-color chart. I am not stealing it, selling it, or licensing it to my readers at a special discount. Manufacturing disciples - or diciples - is a serious business where the rules must apply.

When I saw this post popping up as popular, I thought about the millions of dollars gathered by the denominational experts who paraded their skills in making congregations grow. The opposite happened, yet they are collecting their professorships, their executive directorships, and the lecture fees ad infinitum.

How in the world can they walk around - shamelessly - when their work has plunged their supposedly conservative denominations into apostasy and pussy-footing. There is hardly a pastor today who will even clear his throat when the denomination makes another leap into error or beatdown the faithful.

John Deere's motto was that he would not put his name on a product unless it was the highest quality. Why do rationalistic-pietistic sects put Luther's name on their product? They are stetzier than Stetzer. At least he is honestly dumb.

From Another Layman - About Lenski and the Blog

Dear Pastor Jackson...
First of all, I want to thank you again for introducing me to Lenski's wonderful New Testament commentaries back about three years ago.  I gradually found all  of them for sale on the internet and began reading them.  I am now about 40 pages into the last  one left for me to read: Revelation.  I have found all of Lenski's works to be so revealing and they have helped clarify the wonderful words of Scripture that my parents introduced me to as a child over 80 years ago and that I have treasured ever since.  My faith has been deepened and my understandings widened in ways that I could never have imagined when I began reading Lenski's works.  They will be a treasured resource for the rest of my life.  What a blessing! [GJ - I use Lenski for every sermon.]

I have a question for you: have you ever  read Lenski's "little book", Kings and Priests? [GJ - We are searching for it.]  He has mentioned it any number of times in the commentaries.  I have tried for quite awhile to find it online since it is long out of print.  The response has always been "Out of print--not available".  I wonder if you have ever read it or come across anyone who has and who may have a copy.  I would wonder also if Alex Satin might think that this would be a volume that would warrant reprinting  (I gather that you have some contact with him). [GJ - He is a member.] Anyway, I thought that I would ask you seeing as I have had absolutely no luck in finding it anywhere.

Again, thank you for all of your "Watchman" duties that you have so faithfully been involved in.

GJ - It is very encouraging to receive messages like this.

A Senior Ex-WELS Member Reviews Ichabod.
Ichabod review of posting and readership

Ichabod review of posting and readership

"Re: Ichabod review of posting and readership.

Thank you for another year of  informative reporting of the "state of organized Lutheranism" as well as other religious chaos.   For any who made noises about obviously planned and programmed undoing a whole synod more than 40 years ago, Ichabod has been a pillar reminder that the protests were not illusionary, unfounded, observations and concerns.   Expressed concerns have been borne out through ensuing years.  It was 42 years ago this month in 1978 the letter came re: membership in a WELS congregation being terminated, soon followed by voluntary exists of a few others.

But where were the rest of the "others" who wouldn't or couldn't inform themselves?  A few in other geographical locations were expelled for protesting other departures from what a synod taught.  i.e. the issue of receiving government grants for a Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, WI,  followed by the notorious "Kokomo 4" declarations upheld by WELS. Few except those protesting wanted to know, for then they might have to look further for themselves and draw conclusions they didn't want to draw?  A couple generations pass and the "before" becomes transformed new synod. Define and describe that as loyalties require.

You know also that appreciating the unique and outstanding gifts evident in "Ichabod", hasn't prevented this  reader from expressing disagreement or viewpoint now and then.

Respectful responses received have been greatly appreciated."
