I became Augustana when I left the Disciples of Christ and joined Salem Lutheran Church across the street (at age 16). My mother encouraged me to attend Augustana College, which is where she graduated. Christina and her sister also joined.

Salem's parish members were part of the Moline High School graduates of 1966.
My parents became Lutheran - on the conservative side - (LCMS-WELS) over a period of time.

The Augustana Synod was absorbed by the Lutheran Church in America, which merged with The ALC and smaller groups, leading to to ELCA, now numbering only 2.7 million members after starting out with 5.5 million total.
