KJV Matthew 13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

1. The dreams of the false teachers are based upon switching from one Biblical concept to something appealing to the Old Adam - using snacks and drinks for the worship service, wearing clown clothes to make it more circus like, borrowing from pagans, coveting entertainment styles.

2. The Big Five - ELCA-LCMS-WELS-ELS-CLC (sic) are too conflicted to figure this out.

3. Yeast or leaven is the point of this parable, too complicated for those who only buy bread.

4. Those false teachers who lack faith cannot figure this out, even though it is very plain and inspirational.

5. Whether commercial yeast or the starter for sourdough bread, the concept is to mix it in the flour and work it into the dough at the right temperature. The yeast ferments by eating the sugars and releasing carbon dioxide and ethanol. That emits a beer aroma.

6. The dough becomes rubbery, requiring some warmth (not too much) and it rises. A tiny amount can make a large loaf if all the conditions are right.

7. Baking the bread fills the home with a wonderful aroma. It is placed on a rack to allow cooling and drive hungry people crazy from the fragrance of yeast raising the dough in the heat of the oven.

The Big Five managers and salesmen do not understand or apply

  1. the efficacy of the Word:
  2. the Holy Spirit working through the Means of Grace, sometimes called the Instruments of Grace,
  3. the Visible Word of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion,
  4. the Invisible Word of teaching and preaching.

The yeast is the Gospel - which works slowly and inevitably. It is God at work in a parable so obvious and attractive that we can picture the results in time without man-made gimmicks. The parable also projects results over time, which we can see from church history - Kenneth Scott Lattourette.
