The oldest manuscripts of the New Testament are best, right? Actually, no, because heresies were rife in the Egyptian area until around 200 AD.
The most likely way to corrupt a manuscript is to erase/omit a word or phrase.
One is an oddity, 1 Timothy 3:16, a very important passage since it seems to be Paul repeating what is already known, a hymn or creed or both combined.
The vast majority of all the witnesses read "God" while a handful have the word as "who." That could come from wear or fading of the letter making the word for "God" turn into "who."
I will go into the dark recesses of the scriptorum where these are kept and contrast the two versions.

KJV 1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (Vast majority of old texts.)
NIV 1 Timothy 3:16
16 Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great:
He appeared in the flesh,
was vindicated by the Spirit,[a]
was seen by angels,
was preached among the nations,
was believed on in the world,
was taken up in glory.
ESV 1 Timothy 3:16
16 Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:
He was manifested in the flesh,
vindicated[b] by the Spirit,[c]
seen by angels,
proclaimed among the nations,
believed on in the world,
taken up in glory.
Stephanus Byzantine 1 Timothy 3:16

Westcott-Hort 1 Timothy 3:16

Rupert Murdoch ended up owning the NIV, which is heavily and shamelessly marketed but no threat to the KJV. WELS pastors call it the Nineveh paraphrase. |
Do you want his lizard hands on your Bible? |
The KJV is the best translation and is also best testified by the vast majority of Greek manuscripts. Ever since Westcott-Hot, the modernists have been keen to remove that powerful word - God - and to water it down to who on the strength of dubious evidence found only a few times - and not from reliable sources.
The New KJV footnotes "God" with "who" Nestle-Aland-United Bible Societies aka NU. That is virtue signaling among the modern translations. "We know you hillbillies want it with KJV precision and honesty, but we have to show up at deluxe Biblical conferences knowing the rest will judge us on our fidelity to Westcott-Hort and Count Tischendorf."
PS - Westcott-Hot was a typo the first time, but then I decided the name just begs for that alteration. Whatever is ridiculous and dishonest invites a dash of humor. Oh? you missed the Westcott-Hot? You could be hired to be on the next next commissions to revise and correct and improve the ESV-NIV-RSV-NRSV-NKJV.
Mequon's feeble-minded faculty went all out to force the New NIV on the sect. They won, WELS lost. |
