The Cross Athwart The Sky by Robert Golladay “Lent stands for something specific. It tells the story of God’s grace and how it was specifically shown. It tells the story of redemption and how it was accomplished… Before Christ Jesus can be a guide and example He must be a Redeemer, a Savior. And Lent is the appropriate time of all times for presenting this truth.” “The biggest thing in the Christian religion is not what man does for God, but what God has done, and does, for man. It is a great thing for man to be in quest of God; it is vastly more important that God is continually in quest of man. And God’s quest for man reached its climax in the Savior’s passion. This is the story, and the only story, to be told during Lent. It is an old story, but it is ever new. And it is going to be in place as long as there are men and women to be saved, who want to be saved.” — Robert Golladay Level of Difficulty: Primer: No subject matter knowledge needed. It is an attempt, upon the basis of twenty years’ experience and a study of the literature of the subject… The object of the book is twofold: first, to furnish an outline of teaching which the pastor may use as a guide in his oral explanation and questioning; and secondly, to furnish a sufficiently complete summary by means of which the ... In this system each individual, like a cell in a body, must humbly submit to his fate and occupy his “natural place” which is allotted to him from birth and have no desire to get away from it. “This basis of social structure is not only anti-Jewish, but also anti-Protestant. Gospel Truths: Presenting Christ and the Christian Life by John Edwin Whitteker “This little volume of sermons has been prepared in response to repeated appeals from the people who heard them from the pulpit… they have been chosen from a cabinet of upwards of two thousand discourses. “In their preparation for pulpit use, two thoughts were constantly kept in mind: to preach Christ as the Way, the Truth, and the Life, with all their redemptive significance, and to implant in the minds and hearts of those who listened to their deliverance, those principles which underlie Christian character and conduct. “As this new volume goes forth with its message of truth and grace, may it be instrumental in quickening in the hearts of those who read it a deepening sense of spiritual certitudes and an increasing purpose to realize them in their lives. – John Whitteker Level of Difficulty: Primer: No subject matter knowledge needed. Their earnestness seldom permits them to laugh. Luther was the most earnest man of his century, and lived in more earnest times than any Europe had witnessed since the close of the first century. But his merry laugh rings through the entire solemn drama of his life. He relieved himself and others by permitting himself glimpses at the ludicrous aspects which human nature ...
