By Request - Charlie Sue Stew

The two nutritionist authors I follow are Joel Fuhrman and Michael Greger. The Fuhrman books are more practical. Greger is filled with the fine points and scientific surveys - with easy to follow instant questions answered here -

Friends were here for some improvements, and they really liked the aroma of Creation Stew. We had talked earlier about nutrition, and they asked for the recipe, which I am revealing today, the way I make it.

Charlie Sue Stew

I use a two-quart pan and serve half for morning and the other half for late afternoon.

  1. Water in the pan floats the blueberries and walnuts. The blueberries are good against cancer and walnuts are great in lowering cholesterol. Some people do not tolerate walnuts so that should be noted.
  2. Initial spices are turmeric, mustard, and fresh ground pepper. Turmeric is a ginger and very good against pain, etc. Mustard is good for crucifer vegetables. Ground pepper is good for improving turmeric.
  3. Charlie Sue waits for her meat portion, sliced ham at the moment and sausage for backup. She gets initial samples and then more when I am eating the stew.
  4. Frozen, chopped, leafy greens are zero-caloried, lacking salt, and loaded with nutrition. Kale is primary and spinach secondary. Keep stirring.
  5. I add spices and stir greens in - cumin (backbone of stew flavor), cinnamon (enhancer), Italian seasoning (very popular), bagel seasoning (adding garlic, etc), curry (very good), marjoram, and ground cardamom. Results vary from day to day, and that is more fun than fishing the frozen lakes of Minnesota, eh?.
  6. Charlie Sue gets impatient at this point and leaves for her queen sized bed.
  7. Tomato paste is the best base for this stew - texture, flavor, and nutritious tomatoes. I almost forgot...
  8. What I add after spices and leafy greens will vary for each meal.
  9. Mushrooms are anti-cancer and a pleasant addition to the food.
  10. Onions are delicious and often paired with green peppers. Similar vegetables share and swap anti-oxidants, so I pull bags out of the freezer and put them back in small amounts.
  11. Frozen peas are my life-long favorite. That includes the flavor, fiber, and protein.
  12. Brussel sprouts are high on the list as a crucifer and fun/soft to chew.
  13. I do NOT use "seasoned" frozen food because it is simply frozen vegetables with salt and pepper added - for a very expensive frozen food.

The variations are fun to make and delicious to crave. Here are some bad ideas, lacking nutritional value and loaded with -

Oil, shortening, butter, eggs, milk products.

Artificial sweeteners, sugar, corn syrup.

Prepared foods - breads, crackers, Fritos, pizza, all desserts.

Ever-Changing Ichabode Health Ideas

"Mom, I am only going to eat one at a time."

I could  conjure up a number of dazzling recipes and diet catastrophes. Instead, I am going to list some basics that are easy to follow and use with steady (not roaring) success.

1. In early 2022, I began weighing myself daily and posting it on Google calendar, using lb to accumulate ups and downs. 215 lb was the starter, though I recall it being higher but not written down earlier.

2. I read Dr. Joel Fuhrman repeatedly, which opened my eyes to the value of basic nutrition and the folly of my Standard American Diet (SAD). I still read Fuhrman and added Dr. Michael Greger to my row of nutrition books.

3. I was eating walnuts daily (YAY!) but I always used them on ice cream (BOO!) My cholesterol went down and I was diabetic on the blood test.

4. One day I bought some ice cream that really appealed to me (carton graphics). It was truly horrible and probably not real ice cream. I gave it to the squirrels and they would not touch it. Though I wavered, the ice cream deep freezer was converted to bags and bags of frozen chopped greens and vegetables. No more ice cream, pies, or frozen pizza. McDonalds? Nope.

5. I was staggered at the relationship between basic foods (chopped greens, vegetables, fruit) and SAD (cow and chicken products, bread, candies, fried chips, fried everything, desserts, sugared and dietetic drinks).

6. Greens, fresh fruits, and vegetables were filling and often delicious.  I kept trying new/old foods and found them very tasty in time. My vegetable consultant urged me to also try spices, so I now store and use many kinds - mustard, ground black pepper, turmeric, cumin, allspice, bagel spice, etc. I have one sausage serving in my patented Creation Super Stew. Meat is essential but we mostly overdo it.

7. Shocking facts - The SAD Diet is very expensive, especially since we add fast food restaurant items to the sugar-fat-salt prepared foods from the grocery store. Prepared food (microwave and fast-food) can be delicious when everyone is starving or at least feeling starved. Once away from sugar-salt-fat enhancers, returning to them is painfully disgusting, even when venturing back just a wee bit.

8. Encouraging facts - God has already arranged a vast array of healing medicines in greens, vegetables, fruits, and meats. I need eye drops (cataract surgery) so I see the pharmacists once a month. I said to the pharm tech who has waited on me since the Walmart opened nearby, "You have very few cures in your department, especially the over-the-counter things." She said, "I know." I asked, "How did I get perfect blood results?"

"I'm not getting paid?!"

The Best Medicine at the Grocery Store Is Not in the Pharmacy

The pharmacy is not where the best medicine is found. Most of it is aimed at addressing symptoms...woefully bad. For example, prescribed cough medicine is so useless that doctors say, "If cough medicine worked, everyone would be dead." That sounds twisted, but medicine is medieval. Various ingredients taste offal, use opiates, and settle for antihistamines. A cough is a Creator-designed way of loosening phlegm and swallowing the bacteria into the remorseless stomach, where it is killed. Ineffective coughing creates even more misery by irritating the throat.

Meanwhile the doctor gets a fee, the pharmacy is paid, and prescription enablers make money for making matters worse. Over-the-counter syrups, pills, and lozenges are good for dollars while made for pennies. Does anyone remember the "medicine" invented BY A SCHOOL TEACHER!? I earned an MA in adult education but never got any training in treating coughs, fevers, or antihistamine drowsiness.

Do pills, syrups, and injections cure annoying problems? No. The best solution is to use what God has created, the closest to Creation - leafy greens and fresh fruit in abundance, fresh or frozen vegetables, and certain nuts may be allergic to the patient.

Just imagine this in the upcoming season of sniffling, sneezing, dripping, coughing, and fever. How much nutritional value is found in popular cold remedies?

Does the body react unfavorably from using prescriptions and nostrums? Upset stomachs, extreme drowsiness, dry mouths, and more!

Let's examine a super-duper cough medicine, over-the-counter. $9.00!?

My own $9 prescription includes apples, citrus, pineapple and more. Fresh fruit is not fattening because of the fiber. A variety of fruits will provide plenty of vitamins and minerals, plus many more Creation bonuses. Scientists admit that they cannot measure all the beneficial ingredients, but it is well known that combinations are a great help.

  • Wise winter suffering people will build up those fruitarian ingredients daily before the worst symptoms appear.
  • Walmart cashiers are fun when I fill the cart in the morning with blueberries, apples, bananas, pineapples, and citrus.
  • Frozen vegetables, fresh fruit, and leafy greens are great helpers in filling in those bodily needs that can never be replaced by pharmaceuticals and fake cures.
  • The cashiers, the M.D., and the pharm techs are equally shocked that I went from diabetic results to slowly eliminating ice cream, candy, chocolate, pizza, chips, McDonalds and other toxins, losing 40 pounds and getting great blood samples, no diabetes, and normal blood pressure. I eat some meat every day, because Charlie Sue insists on sharing.

Cows milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheddar cheese - do I look bovine?

Walmart - "Ignore the Guy in the Produce and Frozen Vegetables -
He Will Hurt Our Candies, Prepared Meals, And Pharmacy!"

"Cat food aisle!" - "No! Candy aisle." - "Your prescriptions are ready!"

I discussed the pharm computer's arrogance with the pharm tech. Do you know who the scariest person in all the science fiction movies? "HAL - the malignant computer who spoke in a sullen, menacing voice. The pharm computer was upset that I had a second phone number, so it kicked me off the net in the privacy of my home."

So we discussed my lack of prescriptions, except for the eye drops. Ruth was happy about my blood results (yay again!), bp, and loss of weight. I often get into friendly discussions at  Walmart. I don't hesitate to compare their fat-salt-sugar prepared menus with God's Creation foods, healing, and much lower costs. In early 2022, I had diabetic blood sugar results, and that scared me into studying and almost memorizing Fuhrman and Greger.

The answer is not a diet. The food pyramid is upside down. Everyone should enjoy some treats, though they are easily delighted by far too much candy, ice cream, sugared liquids, pizza, desserts, and fast-foods. That eating style provides two-thirds of "normal eating" and the cause of heart, blood, bp, and weight problems. Arkansas lives from biscuits, gravy, and sweet tea.

I slowly removed myself from the graph below, turning it upside-down and emphasizing first with leafy greens-beans-vegetables-fruit-nuts.

  1. Leafy greens - kale, collards, spinach.
  2. Beans as the source of protein, fiber, and many extras.
  3. Vegetables which get more delicious with use - peas, broccoli,
  4. Fruits four times a day - apples, bananas, orange, pineapples, and many more.
  5. Walnuts and other nuts for lowering bad cholesterol.

So in my cart today I picked up apples, bananas, blueberries, kale, spinach, peas, broccoli, mushrooms, and sausages.

  • Breakfast - bananas, maybe an apple
  • Lunch - Creation Super-Stew
  • Supper - Apples, bananas, and other fresh fruits.

Creation Foods News

Apple tree - I had to grow into eating apples daily.

My pancreas warrantee expired, and I found out vegetables and fruit were exquisitely delicious.

I have dozens of Poke Berry plants (8 feet tall) in the backyard gardens. That is the favorite food of 61 species of birds - and it is freely planted, fruitful, and good for the soil, not a jack in the beanstalk wild thing like vines and thorns.

I finally defrosted the freezer, once the Ice Cream Deep Freezer (sob) and now vegetables only (yay!).

I decided to get plenty of my favorite frozen additions to the Creation Super Stew for the deep freezer.

I put in

  • 4 chopped spinal
  • 4 chopped kale
  • 4 mushrooms
  • 4 onions/peppers.
  • I bought 18 cans of Cicero Beans aka Chick Peas aka raw humus with oil - not my cup of tea.
I did that because there are shortages on any given day.

The fruit allotment included
  • A large bag of Crisp apples.
  • Two bundles of bananas.
  • Two large packages of blueberries.
I got one package of sausages and 1 package of sausage slices.

I passed by chocolate, ice cream, candy, chips, popcorn, cookies, heavily salted nuts, frozen pizza, pre-cooked dinners, canned salt soup (YUK!), road-kill chicken, beef, etc.

At the Register - ALARM!

A Hispanic woman cashier said, "Are you going to eat all that?" She warned me against bananas, which are very healthy - with many nutritional benefits. The third world lives on the protein of their high fiber beans, and Walmart is often out of my favorite low salt Chick Peas, the cheapest vitamin source I have seen.

I filled the deep freezer logically (for once) and left the odd-ball frozen greens in the small freezer - collards, turnip greens, etc. Some things have to wait until there is room for my odd picks.

Sassy refused to sit next to Ronald McDonald by herself. I should have stayed away from fast foods, too.

Super Stew Recipe Re-Posted - Replacing Grease, Salt, and Sugar
With Greens, Beans, Vegetables, Fruits, Nuts, and Seeds

I was helping Melo-Cream at the age of four. Labor laws did not include children at that time. I learned about the best ingredients compared to the cheapest. Recently, someone suggested the Fuhrman book and I found it, unread, in my own library.

YouTube

A church member suggested making a Zoom video, so I am trying it out.

I began working at the Melo-Cream Donut Shop very young. The owner, my father, stressed nothing but the best ingredients in his products. He boasted that he saw about 200 bakeries go out of business, all guaranteed to make a ton of money, but lacking in quality and hard work.

We all live in a Bizarro world (see Superman comics) where everything is upside down. People complain about food prices, but they buy processed foods at hideous prices and have them delivered. Those foods are the worst possible for health, but they are addicting - fats, lots of sugar, and plenty of salt.

Super Stew for You

Many variations are possible. This is one I developed over time by making it for lunch every day, sharing with Charlie Sue, the Patterdale-Chihuahua. The ingredients are based on Doctors Joel Fuhrman and Michael Greger, seeing food as effective and inexpensive medicine.

I am going to list the way I make it. Feel free to plagiarize or improve.

Two-quart pan for the stove, starting with a bit of filtered water.

Blueberries go in first, as a super-food, plenty of antioxidants, low in sugar, anti cancer.

Sausage slices - a small amount is the base for some meat, either beef or pork or chicken. Charlie gets some during cooking and her portion later. Meat is not high in nutrition but some meat provides balance.

Walnuts - a small handful daily will remove bad cholesterol from the body. The blood chemistry convinced me when sugar and fat were way up with ice cream, but cholesterol was way down. I stopped ice cream completely. Those allergic to walnuts can try almonds.

Ground seeds and spices

  1. Ground flax seed is very cheap, good against cholesterol and for the intestines.
  2. Ground mustard is added to help the blanched (frozen kale).
  3. Ground black pepper helps the turmeric, the ginger spice having oxidants and spice. (Go very easy with mustard and turmeric.)
  4. Allspice - would probably make a good bakery product - sob. Cumin is bean soup flavoring.
  5. Ground cardamom - aromatic and a memory of Mom, who never used any of these spices, but kept them for decades.
  6. Curry powder reminds me of cooking in India. Fennel and anise are seeds that add flavor.
I vary this group often and look up nutrition values with the Michael Greger website. Charlie has given me the evil eye about some of my concoctions so I go easy with the experiments.

Frozen greens have the advantage of being superstars in nutrition, filling, almost absent calories, and champions of fiber, which we need yet ignore.
  • Kale is the daily champion. I resisted it but came to enjoy it, Greger said, "Nothing tops kale," so consider that. I use a lot each lunch.
  • Spinach is the daily supplement. Variety is good in all the ingredients, because every plant has some variety, perhaps more than we know.
  • Turnip greens are much like spinach.
  • Collards are associated with bulking up future athletes who have little money.
At this point I add a variety of favorites.

Mushrooms daily - they are supposed to be anti-cancer. I have used them canned but would rather use frozen. Check them out with Fuhrman and Greger.

Lima beans or other legumes - they all have protein and fiber plus other nutritional values. Beans are satisfying without becoming stuffed.

Onions and green peppers. They are nutrition and very low calorie. I get the mixed frozen package and use some every day.

Chick peas/Cicero beans. Cicero is one of Rome's most famous orators. His name is the Roman name for chick pea. This legume is neutral in flavor, inexpensive, and packed with nutrition and protein and fiber. I use one can every day.

Chick peas also provide a variety of vitamins and minerals, as well as a decent amount of fiber and protein. A 1-cup (164-gram) serving of cooked chickpeas offers (1Trusted Source):

  • Calories: 269
  • Protein: 14.5 grams

Super Stew - Packed with Flavor and Nutrition - Satisfying And Delicious

Charlie Sue loves her sausage slices.

This Secret about Craving Food Could Make You a Millionaire

I have found the secret about craving food, after years of experimentation and reading books.

Here is the path to make a fortune without reading any books, just this simple plan. Whatever the magic formula might be, just promote A TWO WEEK CRASH DIET AND LOSE 10 POUNDS!

Once the two weeks are over, the victim I mean customer will gain it all back and then some, because the desire for the missing food is gigantic.

Every trademark food fad works that way, and the fad promoters all get rich as previous victims give it another try from a different source.

I found that slowly reducing the processed foods, pizzas, desserts, and candy will decrease the desire for those foods. The fat builders have to be replaced with greens, beans, vegetables, and fresh fruit. Foolish people like me thought of fresh fruit as expensive.

Here is a sample - craving a dessert. The solution is eating two large apples (favorite kind - Cosmic Crisp).

Another part of this comes from really studying  nutrition, from books and websites of Joel Fuhrman and Michael Greger. The facts about expensive processed foods will kill anyone's appetite.

Nutrition Is the Best Medicine

Nutrition Facts is my favorite website for nutrition information. I still enjoy Dr. Joel Fuhrman, but I have maxed out his books by reading them over and over. He endorsed Dr. Michael Greger, so he is kosher. I check my sources.

I like having easy access to Internet sources on nutrition because there is a bundle of food charlatans out there. I actually followed one to hear his carefully crafted presentation when I was abandoning my sugar-salt-fat regimen. The presentation was a masterpiece of baloney, but I waited for the last slide - a great chance to buy $90 worth - a real savings!! That ended the appeal, and I knew the show was just too smooth and evasive at the same time.

Today I looked in awe at one aisle - truly the Titanic of food displays - enormous, well lit, air-conditioned, carefully displayed with Byzantine art flourishes - the egg-dairy-butter-cheese section. As I rolled along in admiration I also thought, "There is nothing good for me to buy. Eggs are loaded with fat, choline, and cholesterol. The butter and margarine are pure fat with a little salt. The cheese is tempting, salty, fatty, and sweet where needed."

My entire groceries consist of The Daily Three

  1. The frozen chopped greens, onion/peppers, broccoli, lima beans, and mushrooms.
  2. The fresh fruit section of blueberries, bananas, apples, and citrus.
  3. Daily beans - a little bread, tomato paste, Cicero beans, and some sausage.
The money-makers and hospital greeters come from:
  • Ice cream, its crafts and assaults.
  • Candy, chocolate, desserts.
  • Soft drinks and juices, all bad - especially with artificial sweeteners.
  • Milk of all kinds, cheeses, yogurts, puddings.
  • Frozen pizza.
  • Prepared meals.
  • All fast-food chains.
Worthwhile food is all health producing, especially in losing weight and providing the complex list of ingredients for a healthy body.

A change to eating lots of leafy greens (kale, spinach, collards, turnip greens) will be almost calorie free but loaded nutrition.

Fresh fruit should be in the daily eating of apples, blueberries, bananas, and citrus. Our old habits are an apple a week instead of two apples a day. But not just apples - blueberries are a powerhouse of nutrition, and citrus is just like dessert when the frozen ice cream truck no longer visits.

Beans are very satisfying and essential for health - due to fiber, protein, and many additional items for health.

Habits, Not Diets
Thinking in terms of dieting is bad. unless someone wants to make money selling us a lack of food followed immediately by making up the poundage lost and adding more, then trying a new "diet."

Eating healthy foods, such as a lot of fruit, will automatically make us healthier, lighter in weight, energetic, and enjoying those new/old foods. Even the over-the-counter meds are more expensive than the raw ingredients of food. Our Creator established our bodies so the infinite complexity of food would make us strong, healthy, powerful against disease and infection.

There is a lot of evidence showing that the nutritional foods not only stop bad things - like diabetes - but also create a craving for those overlooked foods Mom used to make being frugal or on the farm.

I ended diabetes by following the nutrition ideas of Fuhrman. Two doctors in a row were staggered by the change in all my bloodwork, the second one's results later, which were better than the first (more discipline, less chubby).

Fiber-Free
If we are careful in planning a shorter lifetime, we should make sure we eat as little fiber as possible, because fiber sounds yick. We can easily avoid fiber by avoiding beans, peas, fruits, and more. A vanilla malted can be very satisfying with all the milk, cream, sugar, and malt sugar.

However, God made us so the fiber would slow down food and give the body a chance to break down and repair whatever is needed.

Exercise Is Health
We were also created to remain healthy by moving muscles around, lifting, walking, stretching.

Chick Peas? Chick Peas! What Are You Going To Do with Chick Peas!?

Don't let's tell everyone - Ducreux!

The Walmart pharm tech asked about my grocery chart and said, "Chick Peas? Chick Peas! What are you going to do with Chick Peas!?

Healthline Summary of Chick Peas aka Cicero Beans

Chickpeas also provide a variety of vitamins and minerals, as well as a decent amount of fiber and protein. A 1-cup (164-gram) serving of cooked chickpeas offers (1Trusted Source):

  • Calories: 269
  • Protein: 14.5 grams
  • Fat: 4 grams
  • Carbs: 45 grams
  • Fiber: 12.5 grams
  • Manganese: 74% of the Daily Value (DV)
  • Folate (vitamin B9): 71% of the DV
  • Copper: 64% of the DV
  • Iron: 26% of the DV
  • Zinc: 23% of the DV
  • Phosphorus: 22% of the DV
  • Magnesium: 19% of the DV
  • Thiamine: 16% of the DV
  • Vitamin B6: 13% of the DV
  • Selenium: 11% of the DV
  • Potassium: 10% of the DV
I have not looked over all the beans and lentils, but I found this bean (WM generic) was relatively low in salt and loaded with nutrition, protein, and fiber - very satisfying.
A mix of unprocessed, frozen, and fresh food will provide most of the medicine a store can provide.

In contrast, prescription drugs address symptoms and may relieve them - a gamble. Prescription drugs can be quite dangerous. Over the counter remedies are shockingly expensive and very close to useless. Some over the counter brands are dangerous and expensive, such as promoting huge amounts of protein, loads of sugar and milk, plus ingredients to provide bogus energy.

These are super foods that outshine others in promoting health:
Cruciferous plants - the ones your mother forced on you when you wanted Coco-Puffs and chocolate milk instead -
  • Kale - "beats them all."
  • Broccoli - "another top contender"
  • Brussels Sprouts - "baby cabbages, can be delicious"
  • Cabbage - "German vitamins"
  • Collards. "not just for poor people anymore."
Blueberries are the superfood of fruits, low in sugar, delicious, great for stew and old-fashioned oatmeal.

Mushrooms are anti-cancer, no calories, no fat, and a subtle addition to many foods, yea even oatmeal and stew.

The total grocery bill will collapse from the lack of dollars spent. If a single item like blueberries seems high, do not measure them in dollars but in Quarter Pound Meals. I see that QPM at $9.95 here, but I never go there anymore. One large box of blueberries - $6.00.  The QPM is comprised of grease, salt, greasy salty cheese, and greasy salty french fries, with some protein. The cola adds salt and sugar or fakey sugar.

This is mean, but I have to do it.
  1. Add up all the fastfood meals and coffee shop drinks/desserts for one week.
  2. Keep the grocery store receipt and compare with no pizza, no soda pop, no cheese and milk products, candy, prepared desserts and processed meals.
  3. Consider - the Walton family did not grow rich on leafy greens, beans, fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.

Dr. Greger's website provides essay and videos - for free - on more topics that anyone can name.

Cravings Turn to Enjoyment - People Raised on a Farm Know That

Charlie Sue loves her outdoor dog friends, but comes in for a home cooked meal.

The so-called diet plans are a way to spend a lot of money on almost nothing. Each major fad has major downfalls. Many of our ailments come from poor choices and also some dangerous medicines. I nixxed the use of statins, supposedly for lowering cholesterol, but the solution was - walnuts, a handful a day. That is because a member got that from a doctor and passed the news along - with a bag of walnuts (no sugar, no salt).

As I wrote before, I put them on a large bowl of vanilla ice cream. My cholesterol registered perfect, but my blood sugar continued its upward climb.

These are expensive but worthless foods that I had to remove from my habits:

  1. Ice cream - sugar, fat, and baby food for growing calves.
  2. Pizza - bread, grease, salt, and cheese made from baby food for growing calves.
  3. McDonalds - guaranteed to be worthless, loaded with white bread, cheese, salt, and grease.
  4. Large-sized bread enhanced with butter.
  5. All forms of cheese made with fat, salt, and baby food for growing calves.
  6. Snack foods - mostly salt and grease. Cookies - plenty of sugar and white flour.
  7. Eggs - plenty of fat, choline (boo!) enhanced with butter and bread.
  8. Healthy juices - hahahahahahahahahaha! Delicious, fattening, sugar syrup.
Notice that we spend an enormous amount of money on the manufactured foods above.

Below are the simple, nutritious foods, which replace our bad habits and heal many disorders (but not all). The only good test for health is the blood panel, which tests cholesterol, blood sugar, kidney function, etc. Blood pressure requires a cuff, which can be used at home.

The medicinal value of these foods comes from the Lord of Creation Himself. Their values are just the opposite of our sugar-fat-salt habits.

Greens -
Dirt Cheap, Low Calories, Low Fat, Loaded with Nutrition
Seven-day habit - I always use generous portions in our luncheon stew. The famous greens are Kale (beats all the rest), Collards (not just for athletes anymore), Turnip Greens, and Spinach.

Beans,
Protein, Fiber, Vitamins, Dirt Cheap
Beans are very satisfying, but the shopper must look for salt content on cans, ranging from very low to 1000 mg per serving. I like Cicero Beans (chick peas), without olive oil and salt (humus). Fiber is not a joke, but essential in slowing down and maximizing nutritional value.

Vegetables and Mushrooms,
Frozen, Colorful, Satisfying, A Great Mix of Benefits.
Mushrooms have no fat, no salt, but are powerful with anti-cancer benefits. Mushrooms can also offer Vitamin D. My favorite and colorful frozen vegetables are onions/peppers, lima beans, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, and packets of varieties (California mix). I liked sliced carrots frozen but I seldom see them. But mixing these we obtain a wonderful combination of healing substances. Just use "nutritional value of...at healthline - for summaries).

Fresh Fruits
All Day Desserts without the Sugar, Salt, Fat

No juices! Hunger cries out - I want energy now! The problem with sugar-based commodities is their instant jolt and later droop. The value is eating the whole fruit, which has countless ingredients, and their fiber slows down sugars and the rush to the exit.

A solution for a dessert is to end a good meal with one large, perfect apple (compare it to a dessert from a restaurant, often a thawed out delivered sweet, costing $7 to $10). A regular meal can be replaced by two giant apples eaten slowly - good for the teeth, digestion, fiber, and hunger. I love apples, oranges, bananas, and blueberries. Charlie Sue loves them, all except oranges (so far).

Bananas are not exactly loaded with potassium, but prunes have the highest rating of all in potassium.

The nutrition experts aim at four - or more - fruits a day. Their overall claim is that a mix of good foods combine the best of what we need daily. Charlie and I share one sausage each day.

Nuts, Seeds, and Spices -

The Inexpensive Cook

Walnuts and almonds are heavily favored for cholesterol reduction. Flax seed (ground) is inexpensive and can be added to various foods. I use it for lunch and supper. Nuts and seeds seem to fill in a gap in our nutrition. Spices are sometimes listed (Anise seeds) for nutrition and taste.

Fast food and prepared food are salted up to make them taste better. Spices give us a chance to add small amounts of spices and seeds to what we are eating. I added ground mustard to improve the nutrition of kale and collards (Dr.Michael Greger). I provided too much and Charlie said "No way!" to the stew. I mailed it to a toxic waste facility. More on spices at a later time.

What Is New in Nutrition? Answer - We Have Been Doing It All Wrong, Based on the Food Media

I continue to learn a lot from the Dr. Joel Fuhrman and Dr. Michael Greger. The best and quickest source is Greger's enormous website of articles and videos at NutritionFacts.org.

 For example -

Eggs and chicken, which have lots of fat and choline are bad for men.

Here is another view:

We can also take the positive side of nutrition - What works the best for us?

The best things we can eat on a daily basis are:

I am working on several of Greger's books right now, and I use his website.
He is a lot of fun and cannot resist  medical jokes.

  1. Leafy greens - Kale, spinach, turnip greens, collards. Two of them are crucifers and therefore the best for our health.
  2. Beans - (read the sodium label) - Beans provide protein and fiber, satisfying and very good for our gut.
  3. Fresh fruit and berries (frozen counts) - They are a medicine cabinet full of ways to keep us healthy and to heal us from grease, salt, and sugar.
  4. Nuts - walnuts and almonds (uncooked, best unsalted) are powerful sources for additional healing. A few walnuts a day keeps my cholesterol perfect. A handful can easily replace a meal. Salted, cooked, and sugared nuts are not a smart move.
  5. Seeds and spices. Some seeds, like anise, have a great flavor and nutritious ingredients. Ground mustard seed energizes crucifers (especially good for blanched frozen crucifers which are neutered unless mustarded). Scientists do not know what all the hundreds of plant/seed/fruit/nuts create in their cells for us. They are way behind the Lord of Creation, who fashioned all this from the beginning - Genesis 1, John 1.

I recently stopped eating eggs altogether, just as I stopped with butter. Both are in the fridge - as a reminder - and I am down roughly 40 pounds. More importantly, the change made my blood sugar, kidney, cholesterol, and other tests perfect, except for blood pressure.

I slowly improved in many areas. We all love eating good food, even bad and horrible food, but the bulk of the body's use of food is in the stomach, liver, kidneys, and gut.

The liver is a massive chemical factory that breaks down ingredients and even addresses new things never invented before (drugs). Drug addiction and alcoholism come from the liver's ability to get better and better at breaking down the ingredients. The more we smoke and drink, the more we want, because the essential organs get better and faster at breaking them down.

Our livers and kidneys do not complain openly for a long time, from breaking down toxic combinations. One problem is that the food industry portrays all their fat-sugar-salt foods as nutritious because - hey - they taste good. The Nutritious Five all taste delicious when eaten on a regular schedule. Hint - junk food gets worse and worse when neglected. I have put gift food out for the birds, who refuse to eat it, and that food sold retail!

Think of the Nutritious Five as the pharmacy - and the pharmacy as good primarily for addressing symptoms, one at a time. I had to tell doctors not to give Christina statins because they were horrible for her. One specialist even said, "But if we can get rashes from the new one, that will help the study." I lit a few fires on that attempt and the doctor, a 350 pound cardiologist, retaliated.

Even if we avoid the pharmacy window itself, the pharmacy area is filled with shams, scams, and sugar-coated poison. Anything food related - often milk based - is sold at fantastic prices in relation to its basic ingredient, with sugar, salt, and fat added. All the protein they need is from the Big Five above. Many long-term and short-term maladies are fixed fruits and vegetables. Most vitamin pills are priced for millionaires but almost worthless and probably badly mixed. Grab four vitamin bottles in two hands - add up the cost, then put them down and go to produce and frozen vegetables/greens (no seasoning please).

Please do not laugh. I love shopping for groceries because I prepare an economic and delicious feast for Charlie and me. When I got home today, I realized the former Ice Cream Freezer was already filled with greens, mushrooms, and vegetables.

Gone were the frozen pizzas. Gone were the drumsticks (sundae cones). Gone were the vanilla and chocolate ice cream containers. Gone were the specialty ice creams. Gone were the push-up ice cream, the chocolate covered ice cream bars, and the fudge bars. Gone were the ice cream bon-bons.

Most ice creams are not ice cream. They cheapen the product and make it seem like ice cream, making it up with extra sugar and using oil to imitate cream. I learned that on a documentary about ice cream wars. Soon after that I bought one last chocolate ice cream half-gallon - so bad the squirrels ignored it. Squirrels!  They eat anything but not that name-brand "ice cream." Iced milk and fake chocolate.

Gone were the prepared meals, Schwan and Marie Calendar. I read sodium for all foods. I gave the last Marie Calendar chicken pot pie to the birds because the serving was 500 mgs of salt. No regrets.

Fuhrman's Eat To Live got me going on this topic, and Greger's books, website, articles, and videos are giving me even more information. Charlie Sue and I eat some sausage every day for lunch, in the stew I fix for both of us. The best answer to all this is to know as much as possible.

Most doctors know very little about nutrition.

Eat To Live woke me up, after my blood panel showed I was diabetic, but no more.
Body fat feeds diabetes, and insulin makes diabetes progressively worse.

I would start with this Fuhrman book, because the information is more stream-lined and easy to follow. I began with almost no appreciation for nutrition.
