Warriors Against Faith in Christ - Look at the Ominous Roll Call

Luther's Third Cantate Sermon "Therefore the Holy Spirit rightly and justly convicts, as sinful and condemned, all who have not faith in Christ."

Pietism, Rationalism, Halle University

Georg Knapp was a highly regarded professor at Halle University. His theology textbook was translated into English by a well known Calvinist, who used those double justification words (OJ, SJ) so dearly loved by LCMS, WELS, ELS, and worse.

Walther loved the phrasing in English - OJ, SJ - and those terms went back to Germany to be used there.

Rambach (Halle University) used the phrasing which wrongly connected the Resurrection of Christ with world absolution. To this day, students and professors of the failing seminaries declare that the entire world was forgiven and absolved (back to Adam) the moment Jesus died, alternately the moment Jesus rose from the dead. Yes, they are that ignorant.

Stephan learned Objective (Faithless) Justification at Halle University and taught it to CFW Walther, who insisted on it all his life.  Walther made sure the Wisconsin Synod's Francis Pieper filled his shoes as Concordia Seminary's president. Pieper next became the LCMS President.

Walther said that Stephan "saved his life" by teaching him Objective (Faithless) Justification.

Walther broke up the Synodical Conference by insisting on faith as a work! Romans 4 makes it clear that justification is by faith or else it is a work.
KJV Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
The Walther gang continued to promote the bad leaven of OJ through their canonical Brief Statement of 1932. Missouri began to unravel from that point, not because Pieper died but because the Stephan-Walther-Pieper dogma took over.

Cascione still promotes the bizarre OJ essay of Robert Preus, even though it was repudiated by stealth in Preus' Justification and Rome.

This statement above from Calov is one of many in which Robert Preus clearly repudiated Justification without Faith.

I remember Robert Preus talking in class about how much he admired the clarity of Quenstedt. Dan and Rolf, two of his sons, edited the book but failed to acknowledge its clear message of Justification by Faith.

The fatuous Church Growth Movement, spawned at Fuller Seminary, spreading faster than an STD at Halle University, is perfect for Objective (Faithless) Justification. "Everyone knows, anything goes."

According to a Bethany faculty member, the ELS sect will be nothing more than a footnote in a few years. WELS is not far behind that metric.

One big happy family! trading the Scriptures for a little bit of loot from Thrivent.

Set it spinning! That'll be just the beginning!
Curtain up! Light the lights!

I can tell. Just you wait.
That lucky star I talk about is due!
Honey, everything's coming up roses for me and for you!"

Higher Things - Everyone Is Saved! Everyone! Everyone! -
The Sins You Will Do Are Forgiven

LCMS Pastor George Borghardt, President of Higher Things

"EVERYONE IS SAVED! EVERYONE! EVERYONE!"

Turn down the volume, for the sake of your hearing and sanity.

I heard there was a brief dust-up over George's hysterical Universalism on YouTube and its clear statement on their doctrinal statement. They did what every crooked business does - they hid the statement. The video continues, with fewer views than Hillary's latest wisdom.

Higher Things is big business and a more refined version of HerChurch, not quite so far Left but paving the way for the future.

Higher Things has a periodical called Reflections. I received a scan from, oh I forget. Remember, Objective Justification fanatics have a short fuse and a long memory.

Here is George Borghardt's latest nugget, in the Lent issue of Reflections, March 1, 2020.

"The devil doesn't care if you give up this sin or that sin. What he doesn't want, what will finish Him (divine pronoun?) off, is for you to trust that the sins you have done, will do, and are repenting of are forgiven because of the Cross of Jesus. The devil doesn't want you to confess your sins to Jesus and trust that because of Calvary, you will be saved."
Rev. George Borghardt III

I cannot unravel the mixed up, poorly edited meditation on Satan's mental process, which clearly favors the WELS slogan - Everyone Knows, Anything Goes.

Everyone is already saved, according to George's hyper-caffeinated eructations in the video above.

This garbage is being fed to the youth of the LCMS. Apparently George cannot speak of faith in Christ, because he has no faith.

Prove me wrong.

Universalism Has Already Destroyed LCMS-ELCA-WELS-ELS-CLC (sic)

Pastor Herman Otten - choose between the Bible and Pope Walther.

 9-10-2018 Christian News

One thing I cannot comprehend - how the so-called conservative Lutherans ape the rationalism of ELCA, pretend to be better than ELCA, and refuse to discuss or even acknowledge Justification by Faith.

They literally have CFW Walther figurines to venerate in the LCMS, and they keep wondering why they have pastors like this one, posed in one of those hilarious Church Growth grins.

If one crawls into bed with ELCA's Wengert, should the subsequent scandals come as a surprise to anyone?

Two Universalists Honored by Christian News ad nauseum.

Two of these people were big Church Growth Enthusiasts in WELS; one went to the state prison for abusing members of his own church.

This is Universalism, cowardly yes, but Universalism nevertheless. Those who agree with this BA from Leipzig - this Pietist who pimped for Stephan -
are also Universalists.

From Universal Objective Justification to Unitarian Universalist Association:
UOJ to UUA

Karl Barth, family, and mistress Charlotte Kirschbaum.
Barth and Kirschbaum were reds.

One definition among many, since Enthusiasts wobble all over the map:

For example, in 1919 the "Universalist Leader", the major weekly magazine of the denomination, printed the "Essential Principles of the Universalist Faith" on the cover of each issue. After stating the beliefs in Jesus Christ, the Bible, "the certainty of just retribution for sin", and a belief that everyone goes to heaven it states: "Neither this nor any other precise form of words is required as a condition of fellowship." In other words you don't really need to believe in our dogma to join us. Even in the 19th century some Universalists felt that belief in the Winchester Profession was optional.

The religious survey printed in a book called "What Americans Believe" indicates that 8% of people who have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ agreed with the option: "When you die, you will go to Heaven because God loves all people and will not let them perish." These people are universalists (but most have no idea what the word means).

---

What Is Christian Universalism: The basic principle of "Christian Universalism" was well stated by Thomas Whittmore in his book "Plain Guide to Universalism" written in 1840, where he wrote,

"The glory of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ, as manifested in the final holiness and happiness of all men, is the central sun of Universalism." He also stated that "all persons, who truly believe in the eventual salvation of all mankind by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, are Universalists."

Thomas J. Sawyer: " Universalism," in its simple and proper theological sense, is the doctrine of universal salvation; or in other words, of the final holiness and happiness of all humans, to be effected by the grace of God, through the ministry of his Son, Jesus Christ.

GJ -

Karl Barth embraced "the restoration of all things" when he was not embracing Charlotte Kirschbaum. That phrase is used to justify universal salvation and perhaps a time of punishment for sins.

Barth is the best example of a team that could write voluminously without believing in much at all. As Robert Preus said, "All you have to do is read Barth's introduction." Luther said the Enthusiasts reject the Word but fill the world with their own words. The Word of God is not able or sufficient, but their words are, so we should discard God's Word for theirs. That is ridiculous.

Thus Luther described the UOJ Enthusiasts well. They cannot win with the Scriptures, Confessions, or the history of doctrine, so they hurl insults and hide the evidence.

Jack Kilcrease wants to lecture everyone on his opinion, on multiple blogs. He has his own, so he can use that as his personal sandbox.

The UOJ Stormtroopers deny their Universalism. Their dogmatism would keep them out of the UUA - which does have standards. However, the basic parallel is valid. When DP Buchholz says "everyone is  saved, period, end of story," he is embracing the central tenet of Universalism.

Going through some links will show that Universalism and Unitarianism are non-dogmatic. They are free-thinkers to the max. That also describes UOJ. Once world absolution is proclaimed, sound doctrine does not matter and the Law is obliterated.

When Bob Schumann took over St. Paul, German Village (Columbus), he was famous for two passions - Church Growth and Antinominism. Some said, apologetically, "He is a Jungkuntz." Schumann denied Creation and said the Ten Commandments were obsolete. Such sentiments were the reasons why St. Paul left the American Lutheran Church under Pastor Lange. So it only took one pastorate (Roehl's) for the congregation to sink back into mainline Protestantism.

UOJ is the greatest force for ecumenism since clergy adultery. With UOJ no confession of faith needs to divide one group from another. WELS leaders can secretly rejoice in their unity with ELCA, because both believe that God has forgiven the entire world. Missouri can chime in with "Me too! Walther lived it and taught it, even though he was a divisive autocrat."

The Church of Rome teaches that every single denomination is a part of Roman Catholicism, whether they comprehend that truth or not. They are all defective parts, but they remain subordinate units of the One, True, Visible Church. Since Rome cannot provide true doctrinal unity, they only demand organizational unity. ELCA pastors and LCMS ministers are clamoring for a ride on the Whore of Babylon.

One WELS professor was near death in the hospital, which was Roman Catholic, in Milwaukee. He opened his eyes and saw nuns. He said, "The Scriptures testify that the pope is the very Antichrist."

There is a new comment to Justification Central to Lutheran Hymnody.
Comment Link: http://steadfastlutherans.org/?p=4190&cpage=3#comment-281793
Author: John Standley
Comment:
A quick amendment to my last comment (I hope no one has responded to my first one yet):

So because we, firstly and subjectively, disobeyed God, He objectively declared all those who don't come to faith will die in the sin their first parents wrought.

He objectively sent his son to live perfectly for us so that we MIGHT be subjectively forgiven and therefore receive the status of "saint" and have salvation.

By him objectively (and I guess subjectively too, being that he is both God and man) sending his Son into the world doesn't mean that automatically it overturns his original "objective condemnation."

He clearly says in Scripture he only overturns his objective condemnation if they believe His Son died on account of their specific sins (original and willful sins).

He does not say that before faith, His Son's sacrifice he gives them forgiveness of sins and eternal life. To say that forgiveness of sins and salvation are exclusive is ridiculous. I don't have my BoC on me but I recently read Luther or another Concordist who said that if we speak of receiving the forgiveness of sins we therefore have to be receiving salvation with it. So if UOJ says we receive the forgiveness of sins, being holy and a saint, prior to faith, then we therefore are saved prior to faith (universalism).

Maybe the terms of UOJ aren't what they're cracked up to be. Maybe they're creating more confusion than what was intended. That is obvious, at least, in the Wisconsin Synod.

Again, my opinion is open to criticism from both parties.

UOJ and Church Growth Work Well Together:
Universalism Under Wraps

div>
Universalism is always on the mind of UOJ Enthusiasts.

Nothing gets WELSian Geneva gowns twisted up faster than charging them with Universalism.

VP Patterson's district head-faked the issue by providing a paper that quoted from the Unitarian-Universalist Association website and concluded, "We do not believe that."

I decided to gather a few links about Universalism. Not long ago I was intrigued by the Universalist hymnal, which was full of traditional hymns. Old Universalism is fairly traditional, Trinitarian, and straight-laced. My neighbor from Columbus stressed that his Universalist church did not agree with the Unitarians about all the radical social issues, such as homosexuality.

The key to tradition Universalism is universal forgiveness and salvation.

The Universalist Church supported a belief in universalism in their "Winchester Profession of Faith" which they kept on their books from about 1800 until their merger with the Unitarians in 1961. However during their last 25 years of their existence (from 1935 to 1961) a new statement of belief held sway which made no mention of universal salvation. Still, the Winchester Profession remained as an alternate optional belief system with the subtle implication that it was passe. Belief in it was strong among the older members, most of whom are not alive today. What Is Universalism?

The Bond of Fellowship and Statements of Faith (Adopted at Washington DC, 1935)

1. The bond of fellowship in the convention [church] shall be a common purpose to do the will of God as Jesus revealed it and to cooperate in establishing the kingdom for which he lived and died. To that end we avow our faith in God as Eternal and All-conquering Love, in the spiritual leadership of Jesus, in the supreme worth of every human personality, in the authority of truth known or to be known, and in the power of men of good-will and sacrificial spirit to overcome all evil and progressively establish the kingdom of God. Neither this nor any other statement shall be imposed as a creedal test, provided that the faith thus indicated be professed.

2a. The Winchester Profession of Faith: We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament contain a revelation of the character of God, and of the duty, interest and final destination of mankind. We believe that there is one God, whose nature is Love, revealed in one Lord Jesus Christ, by one Holy Spirit of Grace, who will finally restore the whole family of mankind to holiness and happiness. We believe that holiness and true happiness are inseparably connected, and that believers ought to be careful to maintain order and practice good works; for these things are good and profitable unto men.

2b. Creed and Conditions of Fellowship: The Profession of Faith adopted by this body at its session at Winchester, N.H., A.D. 1803, is as follows: [Here insert 2a. above] The conditions of fellowship in this Convention shall be as follows: I. The acceptance of the essential principles of the Universalist faith, to wit: The Universal fatherhood of God; the spiritual authority and leadership of His Son Jesus Christ; the trustworthiness of the Bible as containing a revelation from God; the certainty of just retribution for sin; the final harmony of all souls with God. The Winchester Profession is commended as containing these principles, but neither this nor any other precise form of words, is required as a condition of fellowship, provided always that the principles above stated be professed. II. The acknowledgement of the authority of the General Convention and assent to its laws.

2c. These historic declarations of faith [2a. & 2b.] with liberty of interpretation are dear and acceptable to many Universalists. They are commended not as tests but as testimonies in the free quest for truth that accords with the genius of the Universalist Church.

3. The conditions of fellowship in the Convention [church] shall be acceptance of the essential principles of the Universalist faith and acknowledgement of the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Universalist General Convention.

[End of the "Bond of Fellowship ..." Note that 2c. makes 2a. and 2b. optional alternative statements of belief.] ---

Universalism

by Matt Slick

Universalism is the teaching that all people will be saved. Some say that it is through the atonement of Jesus that all will ultimately be reconciled to God. Others just say that all will go to heaven sooner or later, whether or not they have trusted in or rejected Jesus as savior during their lifetime. This universal redemption will be realized in the future where God will bring all people to repentance. This repentance can happen while a person lives or after he has died and lived again in the millennium (as some "Christian universalists" claim) or some future state. Additionally, a few universalists even maintain that Satan and all demons will likewise be reconciled to God.

Nevertheless, both facets of universalistic belief are in serious error.

GJ - Note that WELS is far beyond this definition of Universalism, because WELS teaches (Jon Buchholz and Mequon faculty) that people are already forgiven and saved. Salvation is not in the future but past, done, finished, period, end of story, as Buchholz solemnly declared at a WELS convention.

---

This is an argument for Christian Universalism.

***

GJ - Three prominent Church Growth heroes of WELS are outspoken atheists or like Mark Frieer - obviously indifferent.UOJ is Universalism in disguise, and Universalism is one step away from honest atheism. Have I mentioned today that Karl Barth taught the universal restoration of mankind? He is the official theologian/adulterer of Fuller Seminary.

Bob Schumann, who plagued Columbus, helped by buddies Stolzenburg and Kuske, is a loud-mouthed atheist today. Oelhaven practically wet himself when Schumann was hired as the second pastor. Some think he drove Keith Roehl to a premature death.

Mark Freier, known as p-boy in his district (for his favorite five-letter topic), was all over the synod spreading his wisdom. He made Ski's current excesses possible. Mark's last roost was CrossRoads in S. Lyons (another Kuske project), which is now an Evangelical Covenant parish. Freier is not a Lutheran pastor now but he rents himself for weddings, any religion or no religion. Hindu - will do.

Curtis Peterson came into WELS Church Growth from LCMS Church Growth. He made a point of defending Church Growth, so he landed on the world missions board with David Valleskey (who never studied at Fuller Seminary). Peterson is now a proud member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Curtis A. Peterson holds a B.A. from Concordia Senior College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and a M.Div and STM (l966 and l983 respectively) from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri.

In almost 30 years in the ministry in both the Missouri and Wisconsin Synods, he was an activist with many published articles supporting the orthodox Lutheran cause in the "Battle for the Bible" in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and author of several articles in the Wisconsin Synod between l987 and l995. He also delivered several essays at pastoral conferences during those years.

He served congregations in Burlington, N.C., Rock Falls, Ill., Garland, Tex. and Gretna, La., in the LCMS and in Milwaukee, Wis. in the WELS.

A Foundation member, he is now retired, resides in Wisconsin and calls himself a humanist and a freethinker.

He still has plenty of material in the WELS Holy of Holies, the Essay Files.

Rob Bell - The Fuller Seminary Universalist
WELS Wants To Emulate.
Beware the Spikey Hair

Matt's Blog

rob-bellThe internet has been abuzz this weekend with news of megachurch pastor Rob Bell's latest book, Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived. The book synopsis released by the publisher states that Bell is "arguing that a loving God would never sentence human souls to eternal suffering." In other words, he appears to be openly professing his belief in universalism, the belief that everybody ultimately goes to heaven regardless of what they believe.
To help you understand the position of universalism, it might be useful to describe a few positions held by theologians on the subject of how a person receives eternal life. Here are some definitions that you should know:

---

A New Me has left a new comment on your post "Avoiding Doctrinal Issues Like the Plague":

Review: A Book About Heaven, Hell and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived, by Rob Bell.

Excerpts of the review found at the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/05/us/05bell.html?_r=1):

"In a book to be published this month, the pastor, Rob Bell, known for his provocative views and appeal among the young, describes as 'misguided and toxic' the dogma that 'a select few Christians will spend forever in a peaceful, joyous place called heaven, while the rest of humanity spends forever in torment and punishment in hell with no chance for anything better.'

"Mr. Bell, who through his publisher declined to comment on the book or the debate, has resisted labels, but he is often described as part of the so-called emerging church movement, which caters to younger believers and has challenged theological boundaries as well as pastoral involvement in conservative politics."

"While sliding close to what critics consider the heresy of 'universalism' — that all humans will eventually be saved — he never uses the term."

Two Justifications from Pietism

UOJ dog singing da blues, da St. Lewie blues.

Some of us are just starting to pursue some leads about the origin of two justifications. I first mentioned the Pietistic seedbed of UOJ in Thy Strong Word, citing Hoenecke (who studied at Halle under Tholuck).

I suggest Googling terms and names but also going to Google Documents for the same kind of search. GD will find the names in obscure books and highlight them. For example, I found a reference to George Christian Knapp (Mr. Two Justifications) in The Education of Philips Brooks, about a well known New England divine.

Here is the citation.

The point made is that Knapp (Halle University) was a Pietist and a very dull writer. Amen to both! He was not in harmony with Luther. Yes, I hear you brother.

And Knapp was used at Andover Seminary until 1898. That means the two justification book was being used as a text while the Synodical Conference was building a fence around their precious UOJ.

Dates to consider:
Woods (very prominent Protestant leader) translated Knapp into English, 1833.
C. F. W. Walther took credit for founding the LCMS 1847.
Knapp was still being used at Andover Seminary, 1898.
UOJ made canonical in the Brief Statement of the LCMS, 1930.

Here is material on Tholuck the Universalist.

This paragraph establishes how influential Knapp was in America, at least in the view of one author:

"Now, to the bold assertion of Mr. Lecky, we shall oppose the assertion of Dr. George Christian Knapp; whose great, calm, judicial mind, as well as great learning and piety, has gained for him an enviable reputation in both the Old and the New Worlds, and from all sections of the Christian Church. Indeed, although a decided Arminian himself, his Theological Lectures have, for the benefit of theological students, been translated from the German by an eminent and learned Calvanistic divine ; an act which reflects equal honor on both the translator and the original author."

Here is an 1832 notice of the Knapp book being made available in English. Figures and institutions of Pietism are reverently highlighted in red - by me. Knapp was thoroughly trained in Pietism:

NOTICES OF NEW PUBLICATIONS.

"Lectures on Christian Theology, by
GEORGE CHRISTIAN KNAPP. Translated by
LEONARD WOODS, Jan., Abbot Resid. at the
Theol. Seminary in Andover, Mast., in two vol-
umei, vol. I. New York : published by G. & C.
& H. Carvill, 108, Broadway. Andover: printed
at the Codman Fress, by Flagg & Gould, 1831.
pp. 539.

Dr. Knapp, late Professor at the University of Halle, was born at Glancha,in Halle, on the 17th of September, 1753, and received his early education in the Royal Paedagogium, one of the institutions of the pious Francke. At the age of 17, he entered the university at Halle, and attended the lectures of Semler, Noesselt and Gruner, with more than common success. The Bible was his great object of study, while the Latin and Greek classics still received a degree of attention which enabled him ever afterwards to adorn, enrich and illustrate from classical literature whatever he said or wrote in the department of Theological science. In 1774 he completed his course of study, and in 1775, after a short absence, he began to lecture, at Halle, with much success upon Cicero, the New Testament, and the more difficult portions of the Old Testament. He was appointed Prof. Extraordinary in 1777, and Prof. Ordinary in 1782. He then lectured in Exegesis, Church History, and in Jewish and Christian Antiquities.

On the death of Freylinghausen (1785), he and Niemeyer were appointed Directors of Francke's Institutes ; and continued jointly to superintend these establishments for more than 40 years. In the division of duties, the Bible and Missionary establishment fell to Dr. Knapp, which brought him into near connection with the Moravians. The lectures, of which this volume forms a part, he commenced during the summer of the same year. In consequence of illness, and the variety and extent of his other duties, he did not complete them, however, until 1789, when they were first read before a class of 186 students. He continued to lecture on Theology, until his death, to auditories no less numerous. Such was his popularity (notwithstanding his orthodox sentiments !) that when in 1825 he closed the 50th year of his connection with the theological faculty of the university, and the accustomed jubilee was held in his honor, the most flattering marks of affection and respect were poured upon him from every side. He died the 14th day of October, 1825, in the 73d year of his laborious life. At his request he was interred privately in his family tomb ; and in the public notices of his decease, nothing was to be said in his honor, except that he lived in the faith of these words, I know that my Redeemer liveth. The volume before us is an important addition to our helps in the department of Theology."

In another notice:

The Author of these Lectures appeared on the stage at the time when the theologians of Halle began to be " divided into different schools, according as they adhered more closely to the principles of Spener and Franke" (the founders of the University) " or fell in, either with the more ascetic, or the more free and liberal principles then prevailing."

In a history book by the great Henry Eyster Jacobs:

But as historical truth demands it, we let the story be told by a later Halle professor, the eminent Professor Tholuck, whom no one can charge with prejudice against the school of Spener and Francke. "Pietism in Halle," says Professor Tholuck, " reached the summit of its power under Frederick William I. [1 713-40], the soldier king with the Christian soldier's heart, the particular patron of the Halle theological faculty. Under him was issued in 1729 the edict which was promulgated anew in 1736, according to which no Lutheran theologian should hold a position in the Prussian state who had not studied at least two years in Halle, and received a testimonial from the Halle faculty of being in a state of grace.

Gradually the nursery of piety was transformed into a nursery of rationalism. ' God's gifts descend not by inheritance;' this is proved also in the history of the Halle institutions. Every director had the right to chose his own successor; and yet with Ludwig Schultze and Niemeyer the direction passed gradually into the hands of rationalism. Under Baumgarten the interests of piety yielded to those of learning ; and through Semler, Gruner, Nosselt, and Niemeyer, rationalism became the prevalent theology. Only in George Christian Knapp a branch of the old Halle school remained, but reserved and timid, and without any extensive influence. At my [Tholuck's] entrance in Halle in 1826 I found still two citizens who traced their faith to this one deceased advocate of the old school among the clergy." This deterioration, however, was gradual.

Once again, the Unitarian-Universalists have donated a book to Harvard about Knapp, who agreed with them! Your precious advocate of Objective and Subjective Justification provided a historical argument for Unitarianism.

To this effect I will quote the authority of George Christian Knapp an eminent Trinitarian writer, whose " Lectures on Christian Theology," as translated by Leonard Woods, Jr., are a standard work with Trinitarian believers. After a full and learned discussion of the whole subject, he distinctly admits that it is " impossible to prove the agreement of the earliest Christian writers with the common Orthodox doctrine as established in the fourth century." Vol. I. pp. 294, 299, &c.

---

Tholuck was A. Hoenecke's mentor at Halle University, a school founded for Pietism by the leader of Pietism. That does not make Hoenecke a Universalist, but it helps illustrate why UOJ is just one step away from Universalism. Note what Jacobs said above about Pietism degenerating into rationalism.

About Tholuck:

Tholuck, though only in his twenty- first year, was commanded to fill the chasm, by delivering Lectures in the Exegesis of the Old Testament. In 1823, he was appointed to succeed the venerable George Christian Knapp, in the University of Halle, where " he maintains his standing with growing honour and usefulness."

One WELS DP claims that the UOJ leaders are not Universalists, but WELS ran a so-called evangelism campaign with this slogan: "I am saved, just like you." Grace without the Means of Grace = Enthusiasm, which leads to Universalism. That is a Universalist slogan, but WELS swallowed that lump of toxic leaven, too.

I have a church for the UOJ Universalists - right near my house.

Here it is.

"Love is the doctrine of our church;
The quest for truth is our holy rite;
And service is our prayer.
To dwell together in peace;
To seek knowledge in freedom;
To serve humankind in friendship;
Thus do we covenant."
