Muslim College Takes Over Campus of Lutheran Seminary in Berkeley | Faith.
ELCA's Pacific Seminary Glad To Hand Their Carbon Footprint to a Muslim College

Moses statue - will it remain at Pacific Seminary - now Zaytuna College?

Muslim College Takes Over Campus of Lutheran Seminary in Berkeley | Faith:

"Mimicking the slide into irrelevance that plagues all of progressive "Christianity," the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary has dwindled to a handful of students. The declining admissions precipitated PLTS's move to an office building in downtown Berkeley, paving the way for the sale of the ten-acre campus to Zaytuna.

The irony is that Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary is also a founding member of the Graduate Theological Union. "The GTU is a union of schools and programs that, together, represent the world’s major religions in collaboration," according to their website. As stated above, Zaytuna College will now use its other three buildings near the Graduate Theological Union to open a Muslim graduate seminary. Considering Zaytuna's stated mission to be grounded in the teachings of the Qur'an, their forthcoming seminary is most likely going to be at odds with both Reconciling in Christ and the Graduate Theological Union.

As progressive Christian denominations continue their stubborn march to self-inflicted oblivion, it's sadly humorous to watch them embrace faith groups that are clearly at odds with their progressive agenda. If Zaytuna College continues to grow and expand, Antifa is really going to have something to protest in Berkeley."

GJ - Pacific Lutheran Seminary supported their move down the hill to a leased building by saying, "Another school will have to deal with our carbon footprint on the hilltop." (I am paraphrasing.) Of course, this carbon footprint is a bunch of nonsense, but leave it to the Left to pass their guilt to another religion.

They sold 10 acres of prime property for $10 million, to reduce their cost per student and hand over their carbon footprint. Before, the students had to look out at God's Creation. Now they will be able to look down on riots at Berkeley's City Hall. Oh joy!

Muslim College Buys ELCA Lutheran Seminary Campus in Berkeley

Muslim college buys Lutheran seminary campus in Berkeley:

"Spokeswoman Karin Grennan said admissions at the seminary have fallen off, but it also wanted to be able to provide its graduate students opportunities to work with social service agencies and develop urban ministries near downtown Berkeley.

Pacific Lutheran has 49 students enrolled in various degree programs. It had occupied the hilltop campus, with six buildings, for 64 years."

Berkeley Residents Worry, Cal Lutheran Says -

"The 6.6-acre property is much larger than needed to serve the 48 degree students and its aging buildings need millions of dollars in work. Utility and maintenance costs as well as the seminary's carbon footprint will drop significantly with the move."

The New Digs - Study Advocacy, Look Down at Riots

The new location in the heart of Berkeley will provide more opportunities for the seminarians to engage with diverse members of the public, work with social service agencies and learn firsthand about the needs and opportunities in urban locations. The building is across the street from Berkeley City Hall, next to a YMCA and near a high school and two colleges. As they prepare for their roles as healers, the students will be surrounded by people in need of ministry, including the homeless who gather at a nearby park. While they study advocacy, they can look out the window to see protests on the steps of City Hall. The move dovetails with a proposal in the works to revise the seminary’s curriculum to better connect students to the people and issues of the world.

All the ELCA Seminaries Are Like "Honey, I Shrunk the School"

Question: Does this move put us at a disadvantage with other seminaries?

While we don’t know the answer to this question, we do know that all of the other ELCA seminaries are taking major steps toward addressing size and space issues. None is going to stay just as they are (sic - just as it is). Two are merging, one other has merged with a university before us, and a fourth seminary has just announced such intentions. Another seminary has sold quite a bit of its property.

Not from The Onion or the Babylon Bee ELCA Sells Seminary to Muslims

Dear California Lutheran partners and friends,
I am very pleased to report that the Marin Avenue, Berkeley, campus of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary has been sold to Zaytuna College.

Zaytuna is the first accredited Muslim undergraduate institution in the United States. It was formed from Zaytuna Institute in 2009, and moved to Berkeley in 2010 to work with the likes of the University of California-Berkeley and the Graduate Theological Union (GTU). Zaytuna is a WASC-accredited liberal arts college whose mission is to “educate and prepare morally committed professional, intellectual, and spiritual leaders who are grounded in the Islamic scholarly tradition and conversant with the cultural currents and critical ideas shaping modern society.” The purchase of the Marin campus will help them in the process of becoming a full member of the GTU as they develop their first master’s degree program.

Cal Lutheran is delighted that the property is going to another non-profit, faith-based educational institution, one that is committed to preserving the campus and its buildings. We heard clearly from the neighbors that they wanted the new owner to have those characteristics and we are glad that Zaytuna aligns with their vision for the property. We are also very pleased that this transition occurs across two faith traditions and shows that cooperation and collaboration are the way forward.

Great thanks are due to former Regent Rod Gilbert who volunteered his time and real estate expertise to find appropriate potential buyers. Rod worked very closely with Vice President for Administration and Finance Karen Davis and Zaytuna’s representatives to bring the transfer to a quick and mutually beneficial conclusion.

As PLTS settles into its new home on Center Street, we give thanks that the Marin campus is in such good hands and look forward to partnering with Zaytuna in the GTU.

Best,

ELCA is a bit...different.

So is WELS.
Martin Luther College is not far behind.
