Do Not Try To Remain a Lutheran at WELS'
Martin Luther College.
Larry Olson as a Professor of Doctrine
MLC Student:
I am with you on the NNIV. The NIV was barely usable, and even then we had to do some teaching around some of it. Your statement about having commissions and meetings until we are forced to agree is exactly right on. I am tired of being hit over the head with forced changes. I'd also add in "or until you get sick of it, or until you make enough of an issue that we can kick you out for causing strife."
The only reason why I can see some in the WELS supporting it is to get rid of the Confessions. With the NNIV, defending most of the doctrines of the Lutheran Church will be impossible. Keep hitting on this, and hit hard.
As for Larry Olson teaching doctrine... I can't imagine a worse class to be in. At least in Lyle Lange's classes we got SOME decent stuff and had to have a copy of the Confessions, but looking at the book list, Larry doesn't even know what the Confessions are.
***
GJ - They hired Larry Olson because of his DMin at Fuller Seminary, not in spite of it.
Likewise, Paul Calvin Kelm's class at Wisconsin Lutheran College was nothing but Arminian doctrine and Church Growth.

The Heavy Hand of WELS Discipline:
Jeff Gunn Keynote Speaker, Featured on WELS.net.
Have Mercy, DP Buchholz!
About three years ago, DP Buchholz was "doing something about Jeff Gunn" and Jeff's aping of Emergent Churches. Since that time Gunn has been elected to the board of Willowcreek's Liberal College and appointed as keynote speaker at this shindig.
Savage discipline indeed.
Jeff's congregation has not been accepted into any denomination, but the Daddy Warbucks are behind him. That is the most important denomination - C-notes and larger. In WELS, false doctrine is rewarded. Discussing sound doctrine is punished with excommunication.
I noticed, before barfing, that Mark Paustian was another speaker at this conference. Paustian is another Changer who denies being a Changer.
Don Patterson denies being a Changer, even though he is an active participant and leader of the cancerous growth. He even attended the "final" meeting, Regaining Momentum. He must have gone to support it, because he did not report back to me about how awful it was.
The conference worked well. Schroeder did an Al Barry, doing nothing against the apostates for a full term, so the assembly of nincompoops re-elected him, while the ever-useful Intrepids announced that as a great victory for them.
Confidential to the Intrepids - Do not celebrate losses as victories.

Brett Meyer sent this link from FIC, which shows SP Schroeder's doctrinal leadership:
Love makes leadership contagious
Jesus is the humble, loving servant-leader that claims us as his disciples and inspires us to follow his example.
Emotion is contagious. If you don’t believe it, try this little experiment. Smile at others. Researchers say that of all emotional signals, smiles are the most contagious; they have an almost irresistible power to make others smile in return.
But which emotions are more contagious than others? Would you say, for instance, that love is more contagious than hatred, or hatred than love? Yale University did a study a number of years ago that tried to determine which emotions were more contagious. What they discovered is actually pretty interesting: “Emotions may spread like viruses, but not all emotions spread with the same ease. A study at Yale University School of Management found that among working groups, cheerfulness and warmth spread most easily, while irritability is less contagious and depression spreads hardly at all” (Primal Leadership—Realizing the Importance of Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, and Annie McKee, p. 10).

That's just
plain weird. I make friends with people because I have common interests, not
because I have an ulterior motive to convert them.

WELS Irreformable
bruce-church (http://bruce-church.myopenid.com/) has left a new comment on your post "Mark and Avoid Jeske Memorial Explores the Outer L...":
The WELS is irreformable, as the MLC homoerotic video incident attests. SP Schroeder even went to bat for the offenders saying it was a spoof on gaydom, probably due to reasons of extended family nepotism. If someone complains about anything, whatever is abusive will be explained away as being harmless, and the complainer will be summarily booted out of the WELS, or semi-shunned, where he might as well have been booted out.
***
GJ - The convention should not have shocked the Intrepids. SP Schroeder showed his colors when he failed to nix the Martin Luther College homosexual video and forced Herman Otten to print a retraction, even an apology, for printing the truth about the debacle.
The video was taped and shown at Martin Luther College, their School of Ministry. The participants proudly uploaded it to YouTube for everyone to see. When a reaction set in, started by comments and a link from a WELS layman, the students began whining at Wisconsin Lutheran College, the twin-sister of MLC in promoting Church Growth Enthusiasm. The students offered to forgive me for posting the truth about their plagiarism. They "did not know" the original video was gay, they claimed--in print--in the WLC student paper. Yes, I got a copy of their lies, in black and white.
They did not know the original was gayer than lavender tights? They should be kicked out for being bad liars, since lying is simply a sport in WELS.
SP Schroeder trotted out a new excuse for Christian News. Now these poor innocent WELSian lambs--who previously knew not gaity when they saw men from Fire Island (a gay resort) prancing around on a Miley Cyrus video--were deliberately mocking homosexuals. So they did know what they were doing, and that made it just fine in Schroeder's eyes - and in Otten's!
The video can be seen on YouTube and on their precious Facebook page, where they brag about it.
I suggest being careful about Googling the topic. Copies of the MLC version got around and began showing up on websites overly fond of Judy Garland and Liberace.

GJ - Kelm, aged 65, turned down the Social Security call at Beautiful Savior, Green Bay, to create cell groups at WLC. And yet, he still has a home in Green Bay and a wife working full-time at Parlow's church. Green Bay is only 118 miles away, so he might commute.
I am sure he will perpetuate the fraud that he has an earned doctorate when a drive-by DMin is only an STM - at best. Have WELS members noticed how the Shrinker fraternity is loaded up with Schwaermer DMins - Steve Witte, Paul Kelm, Larry Olson, John Parlow, etc? The home and world missions people all shuffled off to Fuller, Willow Creek, and Trinity for training.
The WLC board, bottom-heavy with CrossWalk members, wanted for their second Shrinker chaplain:
1. Jeff Gunn.
2. Ski's pal Buske.
3. Paul Kelm.
I am sure some students trembled at the thought of Kelm turning down the job and Ski getting the call. Effectual prayers?
I don't know Wayne Shevey, but he would have to be a Fuller DMIN - yes, that studip - to accept a call to the Ski/Glende sandbox. This paves the way for Ski to be called when others turn down St. Peter Freedom - more often that the sheets at a cheap motel.
Meanwhile, Steve Witte, DMin, is visiting the area again, making presentations at various churches, including Beautiful Savior, where he was last.
Meanwhile, Deputy Doug is watching carefully that no false doctrine them beguile.

"Upside-down evangelism follows the path of least resistance to the God of gracious acceptance."
Paul Kelm,
The Evangelism Life Line (WELS), Fall, 1985 p. 5.
"It's just easier for many people to work backwards from the subjective to the objective in their thinking. In fact, upside-down evangelism may start with gospel and work back to law, stating the solution as a prelude to the problem and clarifying both at the cross." [This is Moravian Pietism, as shown by Walther's Law and Gospel.]
Paul Kelm,
The Evangelism Life Line (WELS), Fall, 1985 p. 5.
"Upside-down evangelism doesn't begin with personal sin and guilt, but rather with the consequences of sin. Societal consequences (for which each day's newspaper provides evidence) are the 'perceived need' door to understanding the alienation of life and people from God."
Paul Kelm,
The Evangelism Life Line (WELS), Fall, 1985 p. 5.
"Upside-down evangelism may begin with different diagnostic questions. What do you want out of life? lets the other person pick the path for witness. How do you feel about where our society is heading? uncovers fears and needs without becoming too personal. What makes people happy (or unhappy) do you think? allows someone to express preceived [sic] needs in the third person."
Paul Kelm,
The Evangelism Life Line (WELS), Fall, 1985 p. 5.
"Evangelism upside-down is starting with the subjective issues of perceived reality and working back to God's objective truths of ultimate reality - sin and grace. It's offering the attendant blessings of salvation as the 'hook' to gain an audience for God's plan of salvation." [felt needs used to sell the Gospel]

The Evangelism Life Line (WELS), Fall, 1985 p. 4.

This Archbishop Could Fill the Weakland Chair at Wisconsin Lutheran College
Listecki misled legislators on policy, Eau Claire police chief says
The Eau Claire police chief is accusing Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki of being untruthful to lawmakers about the notification procedure for clergy sex abuse allegations in the La Crosse Diocese, where he previously served as bishop.
In a development that victims' advocates say is related, a La Crosse priest has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman he was counseling through a divorce, months after the diocese investigated and found no credible evidence supporting her accusations.
In a Jan. 22 letter to state Sen. Jon Erpenbach, Eau Claire Police Chief Jerry Matysik takes issue with a La Crosse Diocese policy that directs those with accusations of clergy sex abuse involving children to notify the diocese - rather than civil authorities, as directed by some dioceses.
According to Matysik, Listecki told Erpenbach during a Jan. 12 Senate Judiciary hearing that the policy was not current, saying, "If you take a look at the statement, that's not something that is happening now."
Matysik said the policy has remained unchanged, only substituting Diocesan Administrator Monsignor Richard Gilles' name as the point of contact for Listecki's, who took over as Milwaukee's archbishop in January.
In the letter to Erpenbach, Matysik said: "Senator Erpenbach, I carefully reviewed the interchange between you and Archbishop Listecki and it is clear that Archbishop Listecki's response was untruthful."
In an interview Thursday, Matysik said about Listecki: "He either misunderstood the question or misled the committee."
For more than a year, Matysik has been trying to get the La Crosse Diocese to change the statement, which appeared in the La Crosse Catholic Times as recently as late January.
"Archbishop Listecki appears more interested in protecting the organization than he is in protecting children," he said.
Listecki was not available for comment Thursday, his spokeswoman said. Erpenbach did not return a call seeking comment. The Jan. 12 hearing involved a bill that would make it easier for sex abuse victims to sue their offenders, which Listecki testified against.
Attorney defends diocese
La Crosse Diocese attorney James Birnbaum said the diocese's notification policy has been vetted by auditors and law enforcement officials on its sex abuse review board and made available to prosecutors in the diocese's 19 counties, and that no one but Matysik has taken issue with it. He said the policy lets the diocese respond more quickly to protect children, and that it turns over all allegations involving children immediately to civil authorities as required by law."We've never failed to report (child sex abuse) immediately to authorities," he said.
The Milwaukee Archdiocese's notification statement, which is posted on its Web site at www.archmil.org, directs those with complaints of sexual abuse involving victims younger than age 18 to notify civil authorities.
The latest sex abuse charge in La Crosse, against the Rev. Edmund Donkor-Baine, a visiting priest from Guyana, involves an adult, for which there is no state requirement to notify civil authorities. But it illustrates the concerns raised by victim advocates who say the La Crosse Diocese, where Listecki served as bishop from 2005 until 2009, sides overwhelmingly with priests over victims.
Donkor-Baine, 47, is accused of indecently touching a 47-year-old woman and forcing her to touch him in August while they sat in a vehicle in the Town of Shelby, according to the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department.
Donkor-Baine, who is free on a $250 signature bond, is scheduled for a hearing Feb. 11 in La Crosse County Circuit Court on a charge of fourth-degree sexual assault.
La Crosse County Sheriff's Capt. Kurt Papenfuss said the woman first reported the incident to the diocese, but it dismissed the allegations as not credible.
Birnbaum denied that characterization in an interview Thursday but was quoted in the La Crosse Tribune as saying "sufficient evidence did not exist to confirm the woman's story. There were no other like or similar allegations ever made."
A letter from Listecki to the woman in December said he needed a "sufficient amount of corroborating evidence to proceed" and could not "conclusively determine what happened," but the diocese has taken steps to limit and monitor the priest's activities.
A study for the U.S. Conference of Bishops found that the La Crosse Diocese sided with priests over victims in 64% of cases, compared with the national average of just less than 10%.
"This is a real-time illustration of what we've been trying to bring forward about the problem up there," Peter Isely of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests said of the charges against Donkor-Baine. "The bishop is instructing Catholics to report sex crimes to him. That's what this woman did, and this is what happened."
Papenfuss and Matysik, who was not involved in the investigation involving the woman, said victims of crimes should notify police, not the perpetrator or his employer.
"If my car is stolen, I'm not going to go to the thief," Papenfuss said. "Why would you go to the person who wronged you?"

Money for Kelm, Not To Finish Degrees
Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Two ELCA Problems Parallel WELS, LCMS, and ELS":
I know this comment is in the wrong place, but did not see a recent post on Wimpy Little College (WLC).
I am surprised that no one has yet commented that WLC rather recently cut some major degrees from their curriculum, leaving some students high and dry. Now they have money for Paul Calvin Kelm as a second campus pastor to work with other pastors' members, maybe do a little WELS sheep-stealing among the non-WELS churched students, and I suppose to make WLC a "mission arm" of the "church" among their unchurched students.
Whence this sudden wealth at WLC to add a "pastor" after cutting curriculum so recently? It must be living proof that a fool and his money are soon parted. Why support a college that leaves students high and dry while pampering a retired reject with a cushy call?
***
GJ - A few seconds ago I was thinking, "Nobody cares about this extra call." I heard from a parish pastor that people dismiss it as WLC going its own way, Kelm wanting a college call when he qualifies for Social Security and Medicare. The same parish pastor says that people on campus think the college needs zero chaplains, not two.
The published description of the call shows that the apostate board--drawn from MLC and CrossWalk Phoenix--wants to promote the failing Church Growth methods of Pietism. Bones would say to Kirk, above, "It's dead, Jim."
---
Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Money for Kelm, Not To Finish Degrees":
WELS provides NO financial support to WLC. It is not a synodical school.
***
GJ - Wade a minute. WLC collects donations as a Wisconsin Synod institution, Brigadoonish. When Martin Marty (ELCA) or Archbishop Weakland (Church of Rome) lectures there, it is not WELS. When raising money from the Schwan Foundation, it is WELS. The faculty is WELS, many of them trained at Marquette, which I understand is Roman Catholic. The board is WELS but not Lutheran.
I guess I won't get any fund-raising letters in the mail.

* * * * * * * * * * *
This is a quote from the college's website. They sure don't get to be affiliated with the WELS without funding, finance, and support.
***
GJ - Certain there is a cost based on the synod's connection to WLC. No staff time? Please. The funny thing is - this is used to justify their dabbling in Roman Catholic ecumenism, CGism, and Martin Marty-ism. At those precious moments they are not WELS but totally, seriously independent.
How many millions have gone from the Schwan Foundation instead of MLC or the seminary or the preps? That is not a cost?
Brigadoon.
Why It's Almost Like Being in WELS!
Maybe Marv Schwan gave me the pow'r,
For I could swim Michigan and be home in half an hour.
Maybe the beer gave me the drive,
For I'm all aglow and alive.
What a day this has been! What a rare mood I'm in!
Why, it's almost like being in WELS!
There's a smile on my face for the big Kelm disgrace!
Why, it's almost like being in WELS!
All the music of life seems to be like a bell that is CCMing for me!
And from the way that I feel when that funding appeals,
I could swear I was joining, I would swear I was joining,
It's almost like being in WELS.

Brett Meyer has left a new comment on your post "Fans of the Video on Facebook":
The homoerotic video parity and it's defense and support by WELS clergy and laity is a symptom of their doctrine and practice.
In my opinion this blog is beneficial for the following things:
1. Preaching the Word in both Law and Gospel. Strengthening the faith of those who are in Christ and hardening the hearts of those who oppose Him, all by the working of the Holy Ghost through the Word.
2. Promote the fact that God's Word is supremely efficacious, to the point that in matters of Law and Gospel nothing else is.
3. Promote the fact that the Lutheran Confessions are the correct explanation of the chief doctrines of the Christian faith and should be used as such.
4. To expose the pure teaching and right practice of the Lutheran churches.
5. To expose the false teaching and false practice of the Lutheran, the heterodox and pagan churches.
6. To show by current and past examples the effects of both pure and false doctrine and faithful and false teachers.
The MLC homecoming video is an example, as are both it's defense and promotion, of the effects of false doctrine and false teachers. It is entirely relevant to any discussion about the spiritual health and orthodoxy of the WELS and ELS.
***
GJ - The supposed cure is for me to ignore this, which I would rather do. The video and the supporters bring shame to all Lutherans and to the Christian faith.
The video posts are still current because the fans brought the video back, along with the Fire Island original they were shocked to find out was "gay." Who knew? Pink boas. Mincing around. Etc.
The video has spread to the WELS high schools and to other schools. The athletes should be proud of themselves. I am sure they are. The Shrinker colleges have shown that they might as well sell themselves to ELCA - they have the same ideology.
