We Heard George W. Bush Today - Walmart Meeting, BBQ, Batman Gifts.
Composting the Leaves

George W. Bush came to Bentonville, Arkansas
to promote his book about his father, George H. W. Bush.
We went extra early to the Walmart Saturday Morning Meeting, to hear to his former staffer Dan Bartlett interview him.
Dan Bartlett now works for Walmart.
W. fascinated the audience as he spoke about his father, his presidency, and his father's. He brought down the house by admitting his birth at Yale New Haven hospital was a political mistake.

LI was born at the same hospital. Chris and I worked at the Yale Medical complex. She helped a famous professor, Dr. Joan Fassler, with research - as she had at the University of Waterloo. I gathered and copied medical articles for researchers in a government program.

More than once I wore LI in a baby carrier and met Chris at the Yale Medical Library, our joint employer. I found it convenient to leave the Yale Shuttle Bus for a Baskin Robbins French Vanilla malted. The owner asked, "How much malt?" I told the owner, a fan of malteds, "I want enough to make me cough." He said, "I know what you mean."

Laura Bush came another time to promote her book, charming everyone,
but we have not seen the current president or his wife.
Friends went with us to see the George W. Bush Library in Dallas. We went to Dealey Plaza the same day.

The younger Bush is often called W for short, so that became my nickname among the Intrepid Lutherans who organized around a blog. The WELS leaders always blame me for the trouble caused by their own corruption, dishonesty, and false doctrine. The Intrepids heard that so often that I became "W" as a joke on WELS.

After the meeting, Chris heard all about it from LI, who told her about the technical revolution and the new high WM stock price.

I fired up T-Rex and we had a great meal. Unfortunately, a brief spell away from the grill meant the bacon blazed up and turned to ash.  We had homemade cheesecake and other delights.

Alex got Batman birthday gifts. He suggested a Batarang for next year's birthday. I looked it up with him on Amazon and sent him one for Wednesday, not for next year. He went outside with me and the helper to rake leaves for the compost. Snow is coming. We filled up the compost and put the garden hose on branches of the dead tree. Alex told our helper how they would divide the job up - division of labor. Our helper wondered how he become junior assistant. Seniority! Alex was raking leaves for me several years ago.

Other Walmart meeting stars, from previous meetings.

Joe Montana.

Tim Tebow.
Hugh Jackman led the Christmas singing at the meeting
and shook hands with LI and me fterwards.

Tim Tebow and Elmo Enliven
Walmart Saturday Morning Meeting.
Bobby Petrino's Firing at Arkansas Supported

Tim Tebow, the son of missionaries, was today's surprise speaker at the Walmart Saturday Morning Meeting for executives. He wowed the audience with his charming smile and modesty. He emphasized having the primary goal of making a difference in people's lives with faith and help for them.

They pointed out that Sam Walton was tebowing before Tim thought of it, since Sam often knelt at meetings to listen to people.

Kevin Clash brought Elmo for the kids. Kevin looks more like a linebacker than a puppeteer, so that erased another stereotype.

CEO Mike Duke made a point of congratulating Arkansas for canning Bobby Petrino and his over-paid assistant. The lovely Jessica, only 25, lost her choice position ($50k), so she will be flying coach from now on.

Mrs. Ichabod said, "Who makes $50,000 a year?" I said, "The young women who work for Church and Change congregations in WELS do."

Tim Tebow wows crowd of 15,000 at Texas mega-church - NYPOST.com

Tim Tebow wows crowd of 15,000 at Texas mega-church - NYPOST.com:

GEORGETOWN, Texas — A swaying, singing crowd of 15,000 people clutching Bibles and footballs climbed a hill yesterday to hear “God’s quarterback’’ address an event that was half religious revival and half tailgate party.
Tim Tebow, the Jets’ hoped-for savior, was in Georgetown for the Easter service of the Celebration megachurch, where, at his request, he joined Pastor Joe Champion for a talk-show-style chat about the Lord.
“The number-one thing for me is knowing that everything we have is a gift from God,’’ he told the adoring crowd. “The talents that God has given us, make the most of it.’’

One local woman summed it up best: “That’s what Texas is all about: Jesus and football.’’
Jamie Gonzalez, 20, of the town of Pflugerville, shrieked in a moment of ecstasy, “He’s God’s quarterback! And he came here to Georgetown. It’s just awesome.”
Many of the believers said New Yorkers are lucky now to be in Tebow’s presence.
“I’ve been to New York a few times, and there were so many people who were just lost,” said Wynter Veal-Drummond, who drove 17 hours to join Tebow’s “congregation.” “I think God sent him there for a reason — because there are so many people in New York who don’t have a relationship with God.”
Boomer Sandoval, 23, a student from Round Rock, Texas, agreed.
“I think New York needs Tim Tebow,’’ he said. “It’s a hectic place, and I think people there get caught up in money and all that.”
After giving shout-outs to other Bible ballers, including Knick phenom Jeremy Lin, Tebow told his acolytes that as a boy, he had spent a sleepless night convinced he was heading to hell. A Hail Mary pass to Jesus saved him.
Then he drew applause when he blasted athletes who spend more time worrying about Bentleys than benevolence,
“As an athlete, I think it’s an obligation and a responsibility to be a good role model,” he said. “It’s so frustrating to me when you have athletes saying, ‘I’m not a role model.’ Well, yes you are. You’re just not a good one.’ ’’
Some Hispanic football fans found themselves in a awkward position because of the rivalry between backup QB Tebow and starter Mark Sanchez.
“Sanchez used to be our Mexican savior,’’ said Tebow convert Ralph Ragios. “But not anymore. I’m a Tebow guy.’’

Pro-Life Message

More than 24 years ago, Pam and her husband Bob were serving as missionaries to the Philippines and praying for a fifth child. Pam contracted amoebic dysentery, an infection of the intestine caused by a parasite found in contaminated food or drink. She went into a coma and was treated with strong antibiotics before they discovered she was pregnant.

Doctors urged her to abort the baby for her own safety and told her that the medicines had caused irreversible damage to her baby. She refused the abortion and cited her Christian faith as the reason for her hope that her son would be born without the devastating disabilities physicians predicted. Pam said the doctors didn't think of it as a life, they thought of it as a mass of fetal tissue.

While pregnant, Pam nearly lost their baby four times but refused to consider abortion. She recalled making a pledge to God with her husband: If you will give us a son, we’ll name him Timothy and we’ll make him a preacher.

Pam ultimately spent the last two months of her pregnancy in bed and eventually gave birth to a healthy baby boy August 14, 1987. Pam’s youngest son is indeed a preacher. He preaches in prisons, makes hospital visits, and serves with his father’s ministry in the Philippines. He also plays football.

Pam’s son is Tim Tebow.
