Higher Things - Everyone Is Saved! Everyone! Everyone! -
The Sins You Will Do Are Forgiven

LCMS Pastor George Borghardt, President of Higher Things

"EVERYONE IS SAVED! EVERYONE! EVERYONE!"

Turn down the volume, for the sake of your hearing and sanity.

I heard there was a brief dust-up over George's hysterical Universalism on YouTube and its clear statement on their doctrinal statement. They did what every crooked business does - they hid the statement. The video continues, with fewer views than Hillary's latest wisdom.

Higher Things is big business and a more refined version of HerChurch, not quite so far Left but paving the way for the future.

Higher Things has a periodical called Reflections. I received a scan from, oh I forget. Remember, Objective Justification fanatics have a short fuse and a long memory.

Here is George Borghardt's latest nugget, in the Lent issue of Reflections, March 1, 2020.

"The devil doesn't care if you give up this sin or that sin. What he doesn't want, what will finish Him (divine pronoun?) off, is for you to trust that the sins you have done, will do, and are repenting of are forgiven because of the Cross of Jesus. The devil doesn't want you to confess your sins to Jesus and trust that because of Calvary, you will be saved."
Rev. George Borghardt III

I cannot unravel the mixed up, poorly edited meditation on Satan's mental process, which clearly favors the WELS slogan - Everyone Knows, Anything Goes.

Everyone is already saved, according to George's hyper-caffeinated eructations in the video above.

This garbage is being fed to the youth of the LCMS. Apparently George cannot speak of faith in Christ, because he has no faith.

Prove me wrong.

Higher Things - Still on YouTube - SuperDumb Ecstatic Speech on Universalism - From 2016

Reverend George Borghardt III

Reverend George Borghardt IIIReverend George F. Borghardt III, Senior Pastor: graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Classics and then received a Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO in 2000. He served for ten years as the Associate/Youth Pastor at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Conroe, TX before accepting the call to serve as Zion’s Senior Pastor in November of 2010.
Pastor Borghardt voluteers his time in various youth organizations, serving as the President aof the national Lutheran youth organization Higher Things and as a board director at Faith Lutheran in Crystal Lake.  He plays second base on Zion's softball team.  He is also a huge sports fan loving his LSU Tigers, the New Orleans Saints, and the New York Mets.
Pastor Borghardt and Amy, his wife, have three children: George, Thomas, and Sophia.

President of Higher Things

This Calov quotation, which I obtained from Robert Preus'
Justification and Rome,
destroys UOJ in a few words.

---

What Do Lutherans Believe?

Luther's RoseAll that we believe, teach, and confess must faithfully be taken from the Holy Scriptures. We believe that the Holy Scriptures are God's divinely inspired word, without error, that is able to make us wise unto salvation...

Jesus took the burden of our sin upon Himself at the cross enduring our punishment. His love is so great for us that He gives us His perfect righteousness. By virtue of the cross, God declares that our sins are forgiven and we are righteous and welcome in His sight.

Higher Things and the Forrest Bivens Deception about the Chief Article

The first and chief article is this: Jesus Christ, our God and Lord, died for our sins and was raised again for our justification (Romans 4:24-25). He alone is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29), and God has laid upon Him the iniquities of us all (Isaiah 53:5). All have sinned are justified freely, without their own works or merits, by His grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, in His blood (Romans 3:23-25). (Smalcald Articles II.I.1-3).

That right there is the heart of the Lutheran Confession. All have sinned. All have been justified freely without work or merit. Justification--becoming right with God--is something that happens outside myself, apart from myself. It's objective. My redemption is in Christ Jesus, in the blood that He shed.

***

GJ - This video is the worst UOJ message I have seen, but I am glad Higher Things and Pastor George Borghardt III are out in the open about their Universalism, instead of hiding it behind ambiguous and misleading language.

The Brief Confession of 1932 uses completely erroneous Scripture citations to back up "God has forgiven the entire world," without connecting the citations to the claims. Here are claims without even a mention of Scripture.

My take is this -  the UOJ Stormtroopers are rattled by the laity who see through their false doctrine and challenge them on every point. The Higher Things websty clearly misrepresents Luther and the Book of Concord about the Chief Article.

Who Redefined the Chief Article - Cheaply. Dishonestly. Cowardly?
The Primary Doctrine in Its Primary Setting: Objective Justification and Lutheran Worship [Prepared for the WELS National Conference on Worship, Music and the Arts Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin, July Wisconsin, July 23, 1996By Forrest L. Bivens]
The article of justification is the master and prince, the lord, the ruler, and the judge over all kinds of doctrines; it preserves and governs all church doctrine and raises up our consciences before God. Without this article the world is utter darkness and death.”1 Luther’s appraisal of the doctrine of justification is also ours. We hold it to be the primary doctrine of Scripture, that is, the central and most important teaching revealed by God for us sinners.2
The truth of justification, above all others, distinguishes Christianity from all other religions. If this teaching were obscured or lost, attempts to show significant differences between the Christian religion and others would ultimately prove to be futile. Also, as revealed and emphasized in the Bible, all other doctrines either prepare for or flow from this chief article of faith. Without this truth, all others would mean little. This doctrine is the source or basis of the benefits and blessings which mankind receives from God.
[GJ - Oh, Oh, Oh, Frosty - define the Master and Prince, the Lord, the Ruler, the Judge of all kinds of doctrine for us.]

What precisely is this “master and prince, lord, ruler and judge” over other doctrines? Justification is a declaratory act of God, in which he pronounces sinners righteous. As revealed in the Bible, this declaration of God is made totally by grace and on account of Jesus Christ and his substitutionary life and death on behalf of mankind. To phrase it somewhat differently, God has justified acquitted or declared righteous the whole world of sinners. He has forgiven them. They have been reconciled to God; their status in his eyes has been changed from that of sinner to forgiven sinner for the sake of Jesus Christ. Since all this applies to all people, the term universal or general justification is used. In our circles an alternate term, objective justification, is also used. If justification is universal, it must also be objective - sinners are forgiven whether they believe it or not. This is precisely what Scripture teaches in Romans 3:23-24, when it says, “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

Higher Things joins the New NIV in adding the second all to Romans 3. All have sinned - no argument there. But the text does NOT say "all are justified." Even the old NIV, which was packed with problems, failed to add the second "all."

Shame on George and Higher Things for joining ELCA in its Universalism, grace without the Means of Grace, declarations without any Scriptural or Confessional support, Halle Pietism triumphant.

Take down the Luther statues and put up Lord Vader.

An Antinomian Shouts about the Law Always Accusing

Look at the beautiful, untouched set of Luther on the top row of his shelves below. One reader (name redacted) said, "At least he doesn't soak them in lemon juice to make them look old, the way Harrison does."

George's incoherent shouting at the camera should not be confused with knowledge of his subject matter.

The problem with starting off with a Latin phrase is that it is pretentious. But what is the aim? Quoting the Apololgy, Walther, his Latin professor?

Everyone is already saved, according to George, who. studied. Greek. How can the Law accuse those born forgiven and saved? His position is typical Antinomianism - anti-Law. That does not prevent him from being legalistic. The Antinomians are the worst and most condemning. Best to say - there is no Law for them, but plenty for everyone else.

Too bad he did not talk about Torah - the Hebrew word for teaching, translated as Law. The Torah includes all of God's teaching.

The poor children of Higher Things are subjected to flouting the Gospel in the name of the Gospel.

What did we learn kiddies? Walther was "not very good looking." He wrote the book Law and Gospel! No he did not. He lectured on the topic and the stenographic notes were turned into the book. George actually graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows Seminary, St. Louis, and does not know this?

"There is no doubt in the translator’s mind that Rev. Th. Claus, whose stenographic reports of the lectures were used for the German edition in 1897, has correctly reported Dr. Walther, even to a fault. Dr. L. Fuerbringer, who acted as censor of the German edition and had compared the manuscript of Rev. Claus with his own notes, was likewise correct in seeing to it that the lecture form of this treatise and therewith a good deal of the historical setting amid which the lectures were delivered was preserved." Lutheran Theology

I cannot bear too much of these videos, but I wonder why they are all George, without citing the Bible, Luther, or the Book of Concord.
What qualifies George to run the HT business?

Someone drew a portrait of CFW just before he died. He looks very handsome for a kidnapper, thief, mob-organizer, and false teacher.

Preus Family Yippy-Yappy School of Enthusiasm.
Some Clarifications in Articulating Objective Justification | Steadfast Lutherans

The Rolf Preus Synod once met with and worshiped with
ELDONA, because Heiser cared more about having additional congregations

than Justification by Faith, the Chief Article of Christianity.

Some Clarifications in Articulating Objective Justification | Steadfast Lutherans:

"Pastor Andrew Preus on May 21, 2015 at 9:59 am

@Bill #111

Bill, you are either incapable of understanding the issue or you are being ungracious. The Synodical Conference (W/ElS (sic) , LCMS) does not teach universalism. OJ simply teaches that Jesus took the sin of the whole world away by his obedience and death, and his resurrection declares this through the Word, which offers this free gift to all. Why some rejected it or never even heard it while others believed it is something we leave to the hidden will and majesty of God. But what is revealed in the gospel is forgiveness for all sinners. This is objective justification. Those who do not believe this die in their sins and the wrath of God remains on them. This is what we teach. This is what we have always taught. The fact that some people have given crass and, at best, confusing articulations of this doctrine (like that Judas and all members of hell were given the status of saint) doesn’t change the fact that the teaching itself of OJ is biblical and confessional.

Also, the fact that you reject that the Atonement has made full satisfaction for the sins of all people of all time is very telling. And those who claim to be faithful to the historic Lutheran teaching on justification while rejecting OJ should read what you are writing. You are demonstrating that if you reject OJ then you are necessarily rejecting that Christ made satisfaction for the sins of all people."

Although I quoted the encyclopedia as saying "Woods' translation," some missed the point that this is Woods' translation of the Halle Pietist. Germans and Walther adopted the OJ/SJ language that the Calvinist used to translate the Halle Pietist. Neither term is found in the Bible, Luther, Melanchthon, Chemnitz, or the Book of Concord.
Luther and the Book of Concord call separating the Holy Spirit from the Word "Enthusiasm," the basis for all false doctrine like that of the Preus Family, Inc.

GJ - This is one more example of a Preus family member merging the Atonement with Justification by Faith, dropping the Chief Article and using the label - Objective Justification - that the Calvinist translator of Knapp promoted.

Oh yes - OJ teaches this nonsense, but the Scriptures, Luther, and the Book of Concord do not. Yet young Andrew dares to borrow the language of Jesus from the Fourth Gospel - You will die in your sins - to condemn anyone who denies his dogma.

John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Andy One-Note is so obsessed with this dogma that he uses a familiar logical fallacy to defend himself. His opponent is either

  1. incapable of understanding, or
  2. ungracious.
That sounds like a false paradox, a fallacy older than dirt. Is there possibly a third alternative? Preus Family Enterprises could be completely wrong, obstinate in error, and blind to the Chief Article.

Christ did die for the sins of the world but only the Enthusiasts - among them the Universalists - declare that God pronounced the world to be righteous, free of sin, and saved. Many of us realize that Walther taught this and the Waltherites canonized the same in 1932. But that does not make this OJ/SJ rubbish Scriptural, Confessional, or Lutheran. As Luther taught, the Holy Spirit distributes this treasure - the Atonement - through the Word and Sacraments. Through faith we receive the Promises of God.

Worst of all, in my opinion, the OJ One-Noters make "faith" into faith in this universal forgiveness and salvation. The poor slobs who deny Universal Forgiveness and Salvation will die in their sins because they do not agree they were justified before birth, as Grampa Preus once wrote, but later rejected in Justification and Rome.

The LCMS Higher Things business and Pope Francis jabber the same Enthusiasm.

"God has given salvation to all. And all means all."

"Everyone is saved. Everyone!"

LCMS UOJ Stormtroopers defended Georgie One-Note's UOJ
on Facebook -
and attacked Justification by Faith in a roundabout way,
yelling Eighth Commandment
!

Former Steadfast editor Tim Rossow called
those who defended Justification by Faith "morons."

Higher Things – Quo Vadis? | Steadfast Lutherans:

"Over the years Higher Things has received the support of many readers of Brothers of John Steadfast as well as of our editors. Sadly and with great regret the editors of the Brothers of John the Steadfast can no longer give such support under its current leadership. Our readers must understand why.

In the summer of 2015 Higher Things published an article by a former Missouri Synod pastor, Greg Eilers, who has gender dysphoria and as of this writing has undergone sexual reassignment surgery. After concerns were raised, Higher Things removed the article in its online form and published a retraction. The retraction contained difficult and confusing verbiage. It was unclear, but recent actions have shown that the direction that originally published the article is still the direction of the organization.
Higher Things has now invited Dr. Daniel van Voorhis, the resident scholar of 1517 The Legacy Project, to be a plenary and breakout speaker at their 2017 summer conferences. 1517 The Legacy Project is what our fathers would have properly identified as a Heterodox Tract and Missionary Society. How do we know this? From what they state about themselves and what they do. They do not identify as Lutheran and fit more the mold of generic protestantism where Lutheranism is just one of many Reformation traditions.  Their Reformation Conference speakers include orthodox theologians, as well those who do not share our confession of faith, and a devotion leader who has disqualified himself from public ministry. One cannot say that this conference is a Free Conference for the discussion of theological issues for 1517 The Legacy Project says:

“This is our legacy as children of the Reformation, and it gives us great cause for both celebration and proclamation in 2017. A celebration of the truths recovered in the Reformation and re-proclamation of them to the world and Church, which seems to be in great danger of forgetting them. To this end, we are excited to announce Here We Still Stand: A Reformation Conference. We have assembled an incredible line-up of over 20 speakers and musicians for this event, and YOU are invited to join us as we examine the men, ideas, and passages of Scripture that sparked the Reformation and yes—to have a huge party!”
The vision of 1517 is listed as:

“1517. The Legacy Project serves churches and the world by providing a message of hope for those broken by the church, supplying theological resources that strengthen congregations, and modeling ways of engaging the culture in a manner that is thoughtful, courageous, and Christ-centered.”

Our readers can discern for themselves what 1517 The Legacy Project is about. We encourage the confessional Lutheran speakers we admire to remove themselves from association with 1517 The Legacy Project. We believe they do not know what they have joined themselves to. However, we do believe that the current leadership of Higher Things knows exactly what it is doing by its repeated difficulties on these topics.

The Scholar in Residence and Director of Curriculum for 1517 The Legacy Project, Dr. van Voorhis interviewed Mr. Eilers and his wife for the “Virtue in the Wasteland” podcast. (Part 1) (Part 2). The interview is long (3 hours), but to be informed our readers should listen to both parts and judge for themselves if the doctrine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and Natural Law are affirmed. We believe they are rejected. [Is this what we want our children exposed to?] Yet, not only has Higher Things invited Dr. van Voorhis to be a plenary and breakout speaker, 1517 the Legacy Project is a sponsor of this summer’s conferences, with prominent billing on their conference shirts.

Note this quotation from Higher Things President Rev. George Borghardt in a recent post: “We are really excited to have 1517 sponsor our conference shirts. Our organizations share a common love for the gospel and the comfort of troubled consciences.” He continued: “We’re grateful to all of our sponsors for their support as we dare youth to be Lutheran.”

The question must be asked what kind of Lutheran?"

Eilers could have joined WELS easily,
since they do transgender at the prep, college, seminary,
and pastoral level.

GJ - I rest my case about the Lutheran UOJ sects (ELCA-WELS-ELS-LCMS-CLC sic) going downhill together.

The UOJists despise each other, at least publicly, but they teach the same toxic dogma, that God has declared the entire world forgiven and saved - straight (pardon the pun) outta Halle University's Pietism.

Luke 6:39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

From my Facebook page -

John C. Drosendahl How much more "out of context" could one take Borghardt? Seriously? While the antichrist is a non-theologian, disrespecting and replacing God's Word with everything else under the sun, the Pres of HT is nothing but a sola scriptura theologian whose shoes I could not possibly fit in (mostly because he has such small feet).

What part of the distinction between objective justification "salvation is paid for for all" and subjective justification "only believers are receivers of the gift of salvation" do you not comprehend?

Drew Newman I have heard Pastor Borghardt speak on many occasions and I have to believe this quote was taken out of context and expresses or understanding of objective justification without further explanation that without that work of Christ being applied to the individual it is worthless. Christ did die for all, but all are not saved because they refuse to be saved. If you desire to go to hell rather than enjoy the salvation Christ earned for all God will permit you to go to hell.
