Notre Dame Was Like This When I Graduated in 1982. Notice My Postscript

Matt Walsh

"If you walk onto the campus of pretty much any allegedly Catholic university today, what you'll find is unrecognizable from just a few decades ago. For instance, just last year, several groups at the University of Notre Dame hosted an event series dedicated to reproductive justice. The series attracted criticism for its decidedly pro-abortion slant: an abortion doula with a tattoo of abortion equipment was one of the speakers. The series was sponsored by the University of Notre Dame’s "gender studies program," which apparently exists for some reason. And evidently the Catholic perspective on abortion — actual Catholic teaching on the subject — wasn't even presented at these events, even though that's supposedly university policy. Catholic teaching is supposed to be the fundamental guiding principle of a Catholic university.

Pretty much all the major Catholic universities are like this now, from Georgetown to Fordham to Villanova. There's been a lot of coverage of what's happened at these schools, so there's no need to belabor the point. What hasn't been covered to anywhere near the same degree, is the extent to which left-wing radicalism has infiltrated Christian churches all over the country more broadly. And, trust me, once you dive down that rabbit hole, the reality is bleak."

GJ - Postscript -

The Fiorenza class (he is now retired from Harvard) agreed that the Pope was not infallible. One parish pastor went nuts over their response. He said, "How can you be a Catholic?!" Of course, I agreed with the liberal Catholics.

A priest and a Christian Brother (retired now as the president of a Catholic University) were disgusted that I believed in the Virgin Birth of Mary and the actual resurrection of Jesus Christ. They stomped away saying, "There is no use to talking to you." That took place at the Notre Dame seminary, and all of us earned a PhD. The priest got married and continued teaching in Catholic schools.

Fiorenza loved Tillich, an adulterer who slept with his students' wives and published a ludicrous, myth-using dogmatics book and also borrowed his student's ideas in The Courage To Be. When I mocked Tillich in class, Fiorenza said, "Lutherans do not understand Luther." I responded, "Lutherans do not understand Luther?" Silence.

Fiorenza had been the president of the Karl Barth Society, so he told us that the Barth scholars agreed with Barth living with his mistress (Charlotte Kirschbaum) and letting her do most of the work in the fabulous, windy Dogmatics, but not giving her the any credit of authorship.

My advisor adored Tillich and was very upset about my criticism of Tillich's work. I refused to have him on my dissertation committee, because he blocked the work of anyone who wanted to finish. I said, "No deal!" to Stanley Hauerwas, who was the chairman.

My other advisor, John Howard Yoder, was also a Barth scholar, and was disciplined for his many sexual escapades with Mennonite women. I did not know that until many years later.

Purdue University President Retires - He Kept Tuition Low.
One of the Few

Salute - Purdue University president retires.

Someone wisecracked that most universities are investment companies with a college attached. The endowments - permanent piggy-banks - keep expanding while the school and tuition grows.

Augustana College in Rock Island now has tuition, board, books, and et-ceteras at $62,000 a year. They also bragged about endowment gifts, not giving the total, which is listed at $166 million.

Yale's endowment is $42 billion.

We met a Notre Dame mother who said her daughter was accepted because the family did not request any tuition help.

Notre Dame annual cost is now at $76,000.

Yale is $80,000 so ND is a bargain!

Grand Canyon University has kept tuition down, in part by becoming non-profit and no longer paying $300 million a year in taxes. They are way below Augustana, Yale, and Notre Dame.

Sterling is the main library at Yale University. We went to see Roland Bainton there, where he had an office. He helped me with my dissertation and offered to do some xeroxing for me!

The interior of Sterling boasted one of the largest card catalogs ever. Computers replaced them.

I Predicted the Football Championship Two Weeks Ago.
LSU Tigers Beat Clemson with a Buckeye Quarterback

I watched only two football games this year, ignoring the pros and most of the colleges, even ND. The last contest I viewed was Clemson beating OSU, causing me to make this instant prediction to Mrs. Ichabod, "Clemson will lose their final game, because they will still be worn out from their near-miss victory over the Buckeyes."

I saw the points in the previous LSU game (63-28 over Oklahoma) and pointed out, "Their margin was so great, they will win the championship." Christina yawned.

Another key indicator went against Clemson. Fans held up a big championship sign from last year's victories. I thought, "Yes, yes. Come into the game, with the championship already won. What happened to - when you are strong, appear weak - The Art of War?"

Those attitudes have changed battles of all sorts from the beginning of time. One general said, "An army is defeated the moment it thinks it is."

OSU once went to a Rose Bowl with the Heisman Award winner as the quarterback. Their opponents were almost unknown. By half-time that quarterback was more depressed than a WELS life-coach.

Long ago, Knute Rockne begged Southern Cal's coach to hold down the margin of their victory against poor little Notre Dame, a tiny parochial college at the time. He added, in his pleading conversation, "After the game is over, come and shake hands with our team. It will so much to our boys." He had USC's heads in the clouds the whole game and trounced them.

Self-deception seems to be the rule today. People read their own public relations statements in the media and believe them. No one is allowed to think within the LCMS, WELS, the LIttle Sect, ELCA, or ELDONA. They could not be anything less than paradise on earth. No questions can be raised about the looming disaster.

There is one continuous war, which will not end until time no more exists. The Kingdom of Satan will pursue its battle against the Kingdom of Christ, never relenting, never slacking. However, the individual believer cannot lose.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

However, so many think they have won - especially the clergy - because they have attained the security and honors they coveted long ago.

Why is this so funny? Because it is true to life.

Theology Is the Grammar of Faith - Why UOJ, OJ, and SJ Are Evil Terms Used To Promote or Hide False Doctrine

Paul L. Holmer, Professor of Philosophical Theology
at Yale University,
posed with Little Ichabod on one trip to the campus.
Holmer used the expression - "Theology is the grammar of faith."
I tried to cover the main issues about Universal Objective Justification as a bad paroday of Justification by Faith.

UOJ terms - Objective Justification, Subjective Justification, General Justification - are the same as bad grammar and poor word usage in writing. The reason is - precise language conveys the correct concepts, or at the very least - the intended thoughts to be communicated.

Long ago, many of us assumed that Objective Justification was another word for the Atonement - Christ died for the sins of the world. In fact, before donning the bishop's mitre, Jim Heiser thought the same thing. Heiser was appalled by the actual use of Objective Justification, as quoted extensively and fairly in Thy Strong Word. Nevertheless, Heiser affiliated with the Rolf Synod, which escaped the Little Sect on the Prairie, but have returned to the ELS/LCMS, wagging their little tails behind them. They were and are gung-ho for UOJ.

Likewise, the Easter absolution of the world language, from Walther via Bishop Stephan and Halle University, is a dangerous flirtation with Universalism, whose teaching is almost the same. No better are the ridiculous Objective Justification and Subjective Justification terms, because OJ means "the entire world has been declared by God to be forgiven and saved  - without faith." See the LCMS 1932 Brief Statement on justification.

Likewise, Subjective Justification means agreeing that the absolution of the world - without faith - is Biblical. Subjective Justification does NOT mean Justification by Faith. So we have two sets of terms that are completely alien to:

  • The Scriptures
  • Luther
  • The Lutheran Reformation
  • The Book of Concord
  • The Post-Concord theologians - Gerhard, Leyser, Hunnius, Calov.
  • Modern examples in the LCMS and WELS.

How did the Reformation happen without those odious UOJ terms? and why must we constantly default to OJ and SJ?

The liberal mainline theologians simply dropped their SJ, just as Schleiermacher and Barth did - the entire world is forgiven and saved period. Requiring faith repudiates grace - yes, they really mean that and constantly warn against faith. The reason - they lack faith completely, so that is their subtle evasion, using the words of faith while repudiating faith in the Word of God. As my friend at Notre Dame said, "Faith without belief. They have a sentimental attachment to the Bible." (The sainted Charles Caldwell, Episcopalian conservative)

I used to grieve that I wasted so many hours studying modern theology and Roman Catholic theology at Notre Dame, but that is how I came to recognize UOJ as another form of apostate teaching.

Like the creatures of decay in the garden, the UOJ teachers hide under the rocks and logs whenever discovered. But they go back to their work.

Bivens and Valleskey taught UOJ an d Church Growth at Mordor Seminary in Mequon (WELS). Their deception or self-deception is so complete that Bivens called UOJ "the Chief Article of the Christian Faith."

Our Righteousness before God

The theme of the 2015 Emmaus Conference proved a timely topic. “Our Righteousness Before God…Is Revealed in the Gospel. On this Righteousness Faith Relies.”
The lecture was given by the Reverend David Jay Webber in two parts.
  • Part I: Why Objective Justification Mattered to the Reformers
  • Part II: Why Objective Justification Matters to Us

GJ - As one person said, if Lutheran doctrine can be explained without OJ/SJ - why use the terms?

If OJ/SJ must be used, why did Luther, Melanchthon, Chemnitz and the Reformers fail to use those terms?

I would add the new extra calvinisticusm - If the terms came from the Calvinist translator of a Pietist theologian, how can they be used in the Lutheran Church without shame and remorse?

 WELS-ELS-LCMS-CLC (sic) today.

My professor at WLS, Otto Heick, a favorite of WELS pastors,
wrote that Spener was the first union theologian,
merging Lutheran and Calvinistic doctrine.
Almost all American denominations came out of Pietism. They all had a great affection for Spener, the first union theologian. The current WELS-ELS-LCMS allergy to the Book of Concord comes from the re-establishment of Pietism in those groups, as shown by their Pietistic cell groups (lay led share, care, Bible study, prayer, affinity, or prayer groups).

Those that use Pietistic methods also employ Pietistic doctrine.

Asked about a PhD in Theology

The tower on the right  of Sterling Library is Yale Law School,
where Gerald Ford earned his law degree while he
coached football for the college.

Someone asked about the road to a PhD in theology.

I took Greek, Latin, and German in college to gain the basic tools for Biblical studies. Later I took French at Notre Dame and passed the language test. I preached in German so they excused me from the German test. Notre Dame now requires two ancient and two modern languages to qualify for the comprehensive exams.

College and seminary should have taken a total of 8 years with a vicarage, but I took extra courses every chance I got and finished both in a total of 6 years. In seminary I took Hebrew 1 and 2, receiving no credit because "Hebrew was not required." I vicared at the largest Lutheran church in Canada, so that helped out in coordinating studies.

For the STM program at Yale, I took Biblical exegesis in Greek and Hebrew from world-famous scholars who emphasized the historical-grammatical study of the text. The Appleton alcoholics condemned me for going to Yale until I pointed out that Uncle John Brug took a seminar there. Oops.

PhD work in theology assumes three years of graduate coursework, so I received a one-year discount for the Yale STM when I was accepted at the University of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame assumed one year of independent study for the written and oral comprehensives. Both had to be passed. The written exams took two days, follow by the oral exam.

The dissertation time period varied for a lot of reasons, including the guidance or reluctance of the dissertation committee. It had to be accepted by the committee and defended in front of committee members and an outsider or two.

Old Main at Notre Dame - and their chapel.

Grand Total in Normal Academic Years
8 years - college and seminary. BA and MDiv
1 year   - STM Yale. 1973.
2 years - doctoral coursework
1 year  -  study toward the comprehensives. Pass - MA. 1978
4 years - finding a dissertation topic, finding an advisor, full approvals, oral defense. 1982

12 years - This is the approximate time required for a PhD in theology. Seminary PhDs are easier and take less time. A DMin is not a doctorate but an easy version of the old STM degree. Nobody wanted to say "I picked up an STD at seminary," so they simply made the STM into an expensive and simple DMin.

Fuller Seminary has mined the gold of the Synodical Conference with their drive-by DMin degrees.

Reading during this time - From start to finish, I read an enormous number of books. Like most doctoral students, my brain was so weary after passing comprehensives that I stopped reading scholarly works to give it a rest. My friend in Biblical studies said he could only read TV Guide after passing the comprehensives. The dissertation required reading books, dissertations, and journals from my field and related areas, so I overturned a library to create one more book, which was published.

Institute of Lutheran Theology Is an ELCA Seminary Online

This Yale Divinity Library is dedicated to world missions.

SpenerQuest dolts are struggling with their Pietistic perspective while dealing with these academic issues. Most of them have never studied outside of Holy Mother Sect, so they remain bewildered.

Many divinity schools today began as seminaries for their denomination. Yale began as a school for ministers and for those in public service. Princeton, Harvard, and Duke have similar histories.

Those established universities do not deal with denominational standards and certifications for ordination. If any denomination asks, the transcript is sent. That also means a freedom for scholarship and discussion. One does not fear loss of ordination for criticizing Holy Mother Sect, which is a constant threat danger at LCMS, WELS, and ELS schools.

WELS has several volumes worth of unwritten rules about always honoring the sanctity, perfection, and faux-orthodoxy of their dying group.

Notre Dame has a separate school for future priests. The university makes it clear that those who study for a graduate degree are not under the authority of the Roman Catholic Church.

Jay Webber's Institute of Lutheran Theology operates just like an ELCA seminary. ILT reminds me of the failed ELCA Southern Seminary, which set up certification programs at the seminary for Methodists and other denominations, plus ELCA. Instead of having hordes of students, Southern went under and had to glorify its merger with another school - a new mission for us! Having an in-house multi-sect certification program did not work to fill up the berths on the sinking ship.

ILT certifies women for ordination. Those candidates are either ELCA or ELCA branches - the two groups which left ELCA but kept women's ordination and other hallmarks of mainline apostasy.

Denominational schools are always political, always slack in academics. Jay Webber confessed to me how weak the Bethany Lutheran Seminary faculty was. Now he defends Gaylin Schmeling for getting an STM at the Episcopal gay and women's ordination seminary, Nashotah House.

Webber defended ILT for its future "doctoral" programs. The DMin at ILT has already started, but those programs are as doctoral as a televised conference from Brigham Young University.

Will the illiterate Jack Kilcrease teach in the "doctoral" program at ILT? Rolf Preus praises Kilcrease for the adjunct's UOJness, but Kilcrease would never find a spot on a real doctoral program.

Has anyone ever heard this? "Wow, you have a doctorate from Marquette?" Ha. Kilcrease is proof they have no standards at that old Jesuit school.

Like the MDiv, the DMin is a practical degree, with a little of this and a little of that, quite superficial, but full of awe and wonder for those who want to call themselves "Doctor." Larry Olson will not answer questions in class unless he is addressed as "Dr. Olson," a sign of toxic insecurity. The DMin used to be an STM, but the name was changed so the seminaries could sell more degrees.

Higher education does not consider the DMin a doctoral degree. Nor should anyone else.

Fuller Seminary should use the old name for the final degree, STD, so Larry Olson could say, "I picked up an STD at Fuller Seminary" while waiting for the WELSian applause.

Ironically, getting a Fuller degree is a great resume enhancer for the LCMS, WELS, and the ELS. The CLC (sic) loves Church Growth too.

Those same sects are terribly allergic to academic excellence. While groveling at the feet of Fuller false prophets, they despise scholarship.

Would Jay Webber be accepted at Notre Dame's doctoral program in theology? He would have to pass two modern language tests (French and German) and two ancient language tests (Hebrew and Greek) to qualify for the written comprehensive tests.

Comprehensives for the Notre Dame PhD program were so much fun. The written comprehensive tests took two complete days. If the candidate passed, the oral test followed. If that was passed, the dissertation phase started. Coursework took two or three years beyond seminary, so comprehensives were at least another year later, with plenty of study in that third year. Three of my friends failed part of the comprehensives at Notre Dame.

We called the dissertation "back to kindergarten" because it meant starting all over with reading, original research, and approvals. The time expended was always open-ended. The dissertation had to be approved by the adviser. If it did, the committee also had to approve it. Then it was defended before the committee, and that defense also had to be approved.

Robert Marshall (LCA President) wrote me that the dissertation was often the end of an academic career. He never finished his PhD, like many others I knew. From beginning to end, the Yale and Notre Dame programs took me 8 years.

Another irony - I worked on the PhD for my union card in publishing. I wanted to write and publish. Stan Hauerwas said I needed that degree to be taken seriously. I also modeled publishing after his prolific output and Roland Bainton's.

In the abusive Lutheran sects today, scholarship means nothing and publishing is even more despised. If you want to be influential, constantly politick on the phone, via email or whatever else works. Above all, like Buchholz, Webber, and McCain, get rid of anyone who threatens your cherished position of ease, luxury, and comfort.

The Church and Changers in WELS and their counterparts in Missouri and the ELS have parked their fat rears in the crow's nest and watched for any and all sightings of Church Growth critics, UOJ-deniers. And off they go, searching to destroy that threat with Ahab-like madness and obsessions.

That is the Lutherdom of America today.

This is your future, WELS, funded by your offerings,
approved by Mark Schroeder and Keith Free.

Manti Te'o's Interview with Katie Couric: What We Can and Can't Believe | Bleacher Report

Ap229944419500_original_crop_exact
As George Orwell said before he died,
evasive answers are being as a substitute for the truth.
For tips on this, see WELS, LCMS, ELS, and the micro-minis.

Manti Te'o's Interview with Katie Couric: What We Can and Can't Believe | Bleacher Report:

The biggest lie, which Couric let dangle before moving on, was Te'o's interaction with Kekua on her trip to Hawaii.
"I asked my dad if I could go sleep over one of my friend's houses and while I'm sleeping over we made plans. [I said] 'okay dad I'm going to try to make plans to meet up with her.' That night when I brought it up [to Lennay], 'oh, my brothers are using my car.'
"Since she's not from Hawaii I know she didn't have multiple cars. They had one car, a rental car. And she said, 'they have it, I'm over at the hotel and I can't go anywhere, can you come over here?'

"It's one of those things where it didn't happen."
You know...one of those things.
This is an unacceptable answer and Couric did a disservice to the viewers by allowingTe'o to change the topic back to lying to his father about seeing her, not the fact that he doesn't have any viable answer for not seeing her at all.
If, at that point in the story, Te'o believed Kekua was alive, why didn't he drive to the hotel to see her? How long was she staying in Hawaii, and why did he make zero effort to see her over the course of her trip?
If her brothers were there and took the car, why didn't they offer to drop her off? Why didn't Te'o borrow his dad's car or ask the friend he was staying with to drive him?
Why didn't Te'o make plans to see her in the morning for breakfast? HOW WERE NONE OF THESE FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS ASKED!?!?

Study the Notre Dame Lawyerly Lies for Tips on Synodical Spin.
Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax: Former Notre Dame All-American breaks his silence - chicagotribune.com

Color him gone - this lawyer and athletic director -
if this PR blitz also fails.
Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax: Former Notre Dame All-American breaks his silence - chicagotribune.com:

Manti Te'o broke his silence late Friday and denied any involvement in the dead girlfriend hoax that has consumed the former Notre Dame All-American for days, while saying the man behind the ruse apologized two days ago via social media.

"I wasn't faking it," Te'o told ESPN's Jeremy Schaap in an off-camera interview. "I wasn't part of this."

A 22-year-old named Ronaiah Tuiasosopo allegedly preyed upon Te'o in creating a bogus woman named Lennay Kekua who began an online- and telephone-only relationship with Te'o, Notre Dame's bellwether linebacker, only to die in September of leukemia and create a personal back story that propelled Te'o to national renown but ultimately crumbled this week.
Schaap reported after a two and a half hour interview with Te'o that the player wasn't completely sure Kekua did not exist until two days ago -- when Tuiasosopo reached out to Te'o via Twitter to admit he was behind the hoax and apologize for it.
Te'o told ESPN that he understood two men and one woman were involved, though he doesn't know the identities of the individuals other than Tuiasosopo. ESPN asked Te'o what he believed should happen to Tuiasosopo.
"I hope he learns," Te'o said. "I hope he understands what he's done. I don't wish an ill thing to somebody. I just hope he learns. I think embarrassment is big enough."
Te'o told ESPN he was never asked for money, but Kekua once requested his checking account number in order to send him money. Te'o did not provide it.
As for at least one glaring inconsistency -- the story of how Te'o and Kekua met -- the former Irish star admitted to a lie. The relationship, such as it was, began during Te'o's sophomore year at Notre Dame via Facebook, he told ESPN. He attempted to contact Kekua via Skype and Facetime but never saw a face on the other end, Te'o said.
And as for the story of meeting Kekua on the field at Stanford in 2009, a tale retold by his father in October, Te'o said: "I kind of tailored my stories to have people think that, yeah, he met her before she passed away."
"I knew that - I even knew that it was crazy that I was with somebody that I didn't meet," Te'o said. "And that alone people find out that this girl who died I was so invested in, and I didn't meet her as well."
One published detail, though, eluded Te'o's explanation. An October story in the South Bend Tribune depicted Te'o and Kekua touching hands in their initial meeting. That was not part of the fabrication Te'o passed along to his father, who was the paper's source for the anecdote.
"I'd never told anybody that I've touched her hand," Te'o told ESPN.
Te'o also was asked why he never visited Kekua in the hospital while she battled leukemia.
"It never really crossed my mind," Te'o said. "I don't know. I was in school."
He then added that the purported Kekua family told him not to come to what was obviously a non-existent funeral, per Lennay Kekua's wishes.
"They didn't want -- and I didn't want myself -- I didn't want that to be the first time that I saw her was laying in a coffin," Te'o said.
As for the Dec. 6 call in which Lennay Kekua reentered his realm, Te'o presented the following sequence as written in the ESPN.com story:
He received a phone call from the number Kekua had used. He answered and a woman's voice on the other end said there was something she needed to tell him, but it could wait until after the national title game on Jan. 8.
"I said you have to tell me now, because if you don't tell me now, I'm still going to think about it," Te'o said. "... She said, well, Manti, it's me. That's all she said. And I played stupid for a little bit. I was like, oh, I know it's you, U'ilani (Kekua's purported sister) .What do you mean? And she's like, no, Manti, it's me."
Te'o asked who "me" was.
"She said, it's Lennay," he said. "So we carried on that conversation, and I just got mad. I just went on a rampage. How could you do this to me? I ended that conversation by saying, simply this: You know what, Lennay, my Lennay died on Sept. 12."
ESPN reported Friday that Tuiasosopo called a friend from church in early December and admitted he duped Te'o, without the Notre Dame linebacker playing a part in the deception. Deadspin.com, which broke the girlfriend hoax story Wednesday, reported that Te'o might have played a role in the fraud.

Te'o denied that he used the situation to enhance his Heisman Trophy candidacy. He finished second in the voting to Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel.

"When (people) hear the facts, they'll know," Te'o told ESPN. "They'll know that there is no way that I could be part of this."

Te'o did say the ordeal weighed on him during Notre Dame's 42-14 loss to Alabama in the BCS title game, in which he played arguably one of the worst games of his career.
Te'o evidently told ESPN that a group of people related to Tuiasosopo showed up at the Notre Dame team hotel before the game and that Te'o knew they were there because they took photos in the lobby.
"It affected me," Te'o said. "When you're stuck in big game like that... people depend on you. You need to perform."

GJ - Manti and Notre Dame are sticking to the lie, which I believe was concocted to put the story to rest. Manti is the victim, even though he continued to lie faster than a plagiarist after admitting that the woman never existed.

One plagiarist said, "I didn't know it was doing something wrong." She also said, "I moved the paragraphs around and changed some words." So I said, "So you knew it was wrong."

Another plagiarist or three said, "I cited the source at the end." I answered, "Telling people where you stole it is not a defense. You did not write 99.9% of this essay, but you made it appear otherwise."

The ND athletic director, a lawyer, faked tears about Manti being such an innocent, trusting soul. I wept openly, slapping my leg and saying, "Just like WELS and the CLC."

Manti still insists he was an innocent victim, but has trouble explaining his continuing lies after admitting she never existed.

Now his Polynesian  male friend (didn't say boyfriend) and some mysterious others are the real criminals - but forgiven graciously by the Heisman runner-up.

Miss Invisible was handy for a ND football star who was not dating (but recently seen with a girl). The publicity machine at ND latched onto the girl and Team Manti had to get rid of her, so she was buried with Grandma. However, that only made things worse.

A insurance agent said, "It's best to be honest, because it's hard to remember all the lies previously told."

Miss Invisible was "the most beautiful girl I ever met" but he never met her.

His parents met Miss Invisible on her trips to Hawaii, and Manti was there, but he never met her. Nor did they.

The sports reporter suck-ups (read DPs) are gushing about Manti and the athletic director.

Team members have leaked that they did not believe the story early on.

I opened my Notre Dame alumni magazine. The only football photo inside was Manti embracing his parents on Senior Day, with more gush about Manti. The issue went out before ND went into reverse, flank speed.

The Manti Myth helped him in the Heisman race, because these votes are elaborately staged and lobbied. The same machine elevated the lie so high that everyone could see the falsehoods. As a fan, I did not know about Miss Invisible until her alleged death. Suddenly ND made that the story of the year.

Many other awards, including journalism, are staged in the same way. The more a fake story is leveraged with an award, the more likely it is to be exposed.

WELS has chosen to wage war for UOJ. They have the same problem. Standing behind the raving of John-Boy Buchholz will only make people read the documents.

"Haven't you and Manti pretended long enough?

Sad News from Notre Dame Football

I woke up to hear that Notre Dame was practicing outside in 50 mph winds, with a student filming the practice from a portable tower. The winds pushed the tower over and the student died of his injuries.

I like to see ND win, but that is #200 on my list of favorite things. I cannot imagine why winning is so important that practice had to held outdoors. They have an indoor practice area and used it earlier.

I went to some ND alumni board meetings in St. Louis. I could not believe how hyper people could get about winning. The pressure on the coach of the day is always enormous, but that should not trump safety concerns.

I would rather see schools rely on intramurals alone. That would end the college football business as a feeder system into the NFL. Some would grieve if that happened. But it would also put a clamp on cheating, drug abuse, and the win at any cost attitude.

Media reports here.

American Life League

28 October 2010

Washington, DC – American Life League president Judie Brown issued the following statement on the news that contributions to the University of Notre Dame fell by over $120 million during the fiscal year in which [Alleged] President Barack Obama, a zealous abortion advocate, delivered a speech and was honored at commencement ceremonies.

As one of the first responders to the scandal, American Life League and its supporters insisted that the university had forfeited its right to be called Catholic and thus petitioned for the school’s removal from The Official Catholic Directory.

“It is heartening to hear that Notre Dame’s donors responded so overwhelmingly to American Life League’s call and that of so many other organizations and individuals that were genuinely scandalized and saddened by the mockery made of an institution also known as ‘Our Lady’s University.’
