WELS Synodical Council Orders All Luther Statues Replaced by Darth Vader.
SP Mark Schroeder Said, "Frankly, Luther Is Boring and Out of Date."
Thrivent Grant Money Used for Project

The Synodical Council is comprised of the most notable toadies and bootlickers in WELS, so the decision did not come as a surprise to the stealth dissenter groups who saw this coming.

"I anticipated this several years ago," said one unnamed source. "I began reading Ichabod as soon as I heard it was banned everywhere. If they are going to brag about popcorn and cola at a Sunday morning worship service, Vader is just around the corner."

David Valleskey offered this, "It would please me if you saw this as a golden opportunity to forget the past and open yourselves to true mission. After all, the entire world is forgiven and saved, but it is a big job to tell everyone this and get their pledges in writing."

David Scaer texted, "We should do this too. Why did we let WELS get the jump on this? They are usually 20 years behind everyone."

Thrivent posted on their separate secure link to ELS-ELCA-WELS-LCMS-CLC leaders (https://www.thrivent.bow_down_to_zod.htm) - "We will open up this wonderful project to others, as long as they require all worship bulletin and big screens to have this message -

Ukraine Justification? - Facebook "Friend" Baits Me When I Discuss the Ukraine Battles

This has happened several times before. When I enter an Internet discussion, having nothing to do with their favorite obsession, a UOJ Drama Queen starts attacking me and calling me various names.

Last night it was a Facebook discussion about the hero of the Ukraine war, where this one Ukraine man gave an emotional speech and chased the dictator out of office.

I asked about the lack of leadership in America. Suddenly I was being attacked "not a Lutheran" for denying their precious UOJ. We were discussing leadership and heroics - and the Ukraine.

I only mention this because it has happened many times before. The UOJ Death Squad lights up and goes into action simply because I post something mild (and not about UOJ) on a blog, or on a FB discussion thread. Some do their deeds anonymously. Others actually use their own names. Their hatred is so irrational that they engage in all kinds of irrelevant arguments and silly behavior.

The UOJ Army is facing a very difficult situation. In spite of their dubious claim that everyone is justified, forgiven, and saved without faith (as Jon-Boy Buchholz writes), they energetically condemn anyone who disproves their apostate thinking.

1. The UOJsts have not convinced many Lutherans, regardless of their spittle-flying threats and name-calling. Their Church Growth, clergy-adultery-promoter Paul Kuske attacked them and their beloved  citadel of Satan in Mequon. Gausewitz is not on their side. Robert Preus abandoned them in time to receive eternal life through faith in Christ. Paul McCain backstabs them with his best-selling KJV catechism. It's hard to be a UOJ pimp in this town.
2. Their biggest, bestest, and most loyal allies are the mainline denominations, which also took over the language of Pietism to say that everyone is already forgiven without faith. That is precisely where the liberal Protestants place the meaning of grace. I read many of the great liberal classics of the 19th century at Notre Dame and studied the modern theologians like Barth and Tillich in great detail. My dissertation advisor was Stan Hauerwas, certain one of the best known modern theologians in the world. So - yes, I know. That is why no one tries to refute this simple assertion - UOJ is mainline, liberal Protestantism.
3. The traditional Universalists have the same UOJ argument and - oddly enough - they are often more conservative than the skirt-chasing, alcohol abusing WELS clergy who revel in their Antinomianism.

This shoots the UOJ philosophy to pieces,
so they ignore it.

From my brief experience with ELDoNA about 10 years ago, they really have an axe to grind with Walther, and it doesn't stop at polity. If sacerdotalism is an issue in LCMS, it really is an issue in ELDoNA. As far as refusing to accept objective justification, I can only say that as a desperate group of "pastors", they may very well have come to acknowledge that at this point, I don't know.
In a broad since, I think they must have been rejecting it for a long time to explain some of their strange-to-Lutheranism beliefs and practices, since this doctrine is ultimately tied to every other.

This group is bent on attacking LCMS and now apparently WELS, and they will do about anything to show it. I think of ELDoNA like I think of an injured and cornered animal. They are unpredictable and can be dangerous, doctrinally speaking. Their "injury" in large part (from the instances I observed) came from a Missouri Synod that failed to discipline. The 'State of Confession' that some were making in an attempt to stand apart from a weak synod was carried too far. These guys got sympathy from the wrong crowd at the wrong time, and to ELDoNA they fled. Sad.

Woods was a famous Calvinist, a wunderkind,
and this book is still in print.
UOJ is mainline dogma - everyone is forgiven and saved.

Classic Ichabod - The Lactating Mary Is Featured by CPH's Paul McCain - Again!

Someone generously volunteered to add
Paul McCain to the original painting
of Mary breast-feeding Bernard from a safe distance.

Mary breast-feeding Bernard is back on Paul McCain's blog. Once again, he has a cropped and Photoshopped version, so the Romanizing, sinuflecting Lutherans know what he is doing but the rest do not. One difference is a little more honesty about getting most of the information from the Roman Catholic Encyclopedia. However, he did not link the article, which is a typical convenience for discerning readers who want to compare.

I have brought this up to Bruce Kintz, the bookkeeper/publisher of Concordia Publishing House, who was hired to replace McCain after the botched editing job on the Book of Concord. Kintz has unfriended me twice for bringing up the plagiarism he overlooks and their gigantic salaries.

Now that so many are reading about WELS pastors Tim Glende and Ski suing the husband of their sexual harassment victim, it is useful to recall that McCain posted on Glende's fake blog, using his own name. Dishonest UOJ bullies stick together, like rotting carrion.

McCain Denounces Luther's Doctrine on Steadfast.
Look at What He Promotes on His Plagiarism Blog

Paul McCain used this painting for his plagiarized article on St. Bernard.
He isolated Bernard and erased the breastmilk, or used a sanitized graphic.
http://cyberbrethren.com/2012/08/19/commemoration-of-bernard-of-clairvoux-hymnwriter-and-theologian/#more-7920

Most of the article comes from here:

http://www.nndb.com/people/681/000094399/

The URL is hidden, giving the false impression of McCain writing another detailed post.

McCain, the editor, did omit the information about when Bernard was canonized as a saint. Perhaps that was too obviously from another source.

Notice the bad cropping from McCain's graphic.
The stream of breastmilk is only partially removed.
The background was darkened to mask the alterations.
I copied this graphic from Cyberbrethren as is -
no changes were made by me.
I did a reverse-Photoshop on McCain's graphic, to see what he attempted.
I can see that he (or someone else) darkened it quite a bit. I changed that.
The breast milk was somewhat erased, but not very well, just by darkening the photo.
The crop did not cut out the red of the altar, so I would call the McCain graphic
a sloppy, amateurish edit - like that Book of Concord that he botched, the one they had to recall.

I am trying to figure out why Paul McCain presents himself as the guardian of Lutheran orthodoxy while constantly faking his blog posts and promoting Roman Catholic falsehoods.

I cannot imagine anything more ridiculous and mawkish as the Virgin Mary breast-feeding a theologian, even from a distance. Below, Bernard gets his eye treatment, which cured his eye problem.

Here is more about Bernard and the Lactation of Mary.

Maybe CPH will publish The Glories of Mary.

McCain could figure out in advance how the real painting would look, so he used a doctored version. This gives the impression of a coded message - My circle knows what I am really doing.

Romanism is a major drive at both seminaries, Ft. Wayne and St. Louis. Marian devotion is a way of turning people from Christ and drawing them into other Roman falsehoods.

Pastor emeritus Nathan Bickel has left a new comment on your post "McCain Denounces Luther's Doctrine on Steadfast.Lo...":

Ichabod -

Now, I can understand why McCain can have time to continually post comments on Steadfast Lutherans. Apparently, when copy and paste from the computer is available to him; his time is freed up. But, how in the world does he have all that time to comment while "earning" that six figure CPH salary? Perhaps, he has the leisure of sucking on his small finger while mini me McCains do all this work?

Wow, I was shown this gem from the Lutheran Magdeburg Book of 1613. The Responsory below is for the second day of Christmas from Matins after the reading from Isaiah 40:9.

My how Lutheranism changed (and not for the better!).

Beata et venerabilis virgo, quae sine tactu pudoris inventa es mater Salvatoris. Hodie genuit Salvatorem seculi.

The current debate in the WELS concerning universal, objective Justification

Christian News, October 29, 2012, Vol. 50, No. 42

The conference of presidents, on the recent call list, Oct. 2012, reports that Paul Rydecki has been suspended from ministry of the WELS. No further information is given, and one is left to wonder what did he do????

On the Intrepid Lutherans web page there appeared the announcement that one of its contributors, Rev. Paul Rydecki, has been suspended from the WELS. Following articles and an explanation from Rydecki explained that the reason was because of Rydecki’s views concerning objective, universal, justification. He stated and defended his position in a paper given last June in Oshkosh, “Are You A Dresden Lutheran?” A copy of the DP letter of suspension to Rydecki was also posted.

One wonders why more information concerning suspensions for doctrinal reasons cannot be given. It seems that in order to understand what is going on in the Synod one must go to unofficial sources.

What Paul Rydecki (also the egocentric synergist Greg Jackson) is teaching on justification is nothing new to the Lutheran Church and something which Confessional Lutherans have always rejected.

The position that Rydecki is promoting has its origin back in Melanchthon’s teachings on the three causes of conversion — the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and the will of man. In the discussions in the 50s between the old American Lutheran Church and the LCMS concerning justification, the ALC wanted to teach that God had secured and provided salvation for all people. This is objective or universal redemption, not objective justification. The LCMS along with the WELS insisted on the words, that God has not only secured and provided salvation for all, but that God has declared the whole world righteous in Christ Jesus. This they called objective Justification. (A term that is preferred over universal justification, which can cause some misunderstandings.) By only saying “secured and provided salvation” the door is open for some cooperation or contributions on the part on man. Good, God has provided it, how do I get it? But by insisting on the term God has DECLARED the whole world righteous, all works or cooperation on man’s part are removed.

The men in the ALC, from the old Ohio Synod, wanted to teach “Erst muss der Mensch glauben, dann wird er gerechtfertigt (first must the man believe, then he becomes justified). This old error taught that first one must believe that Christ died for all, then he will be justified. This puts the cart before the horse, my faith before my justification. Against this old heresy Walther and others maintained the formula – Justificatio non post fidem, sed per fidem (Justification not after faith, but through faith). This is the position of Lutheran Orthodoxy. Today we use the term objective justification to teach this truth. God has declared the whole world righteous in Christ Jesus (God so loved the world, John 3:16; The Lutheran church sings, “Christ thou Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on me.”)

Of course now, the other side, the Holy Spirit working through the means of Grace must now change the hard and disobedient will of man which is dead in sin and an enemy of God. The Holy Spirit moves the will of man to accept and believe this objective justification. This we call subjective justification. The two must go together; — and you can’t have one without the other!!! If one rejects the objective, universal justification, he cannot be saved. He is lost. We do not believe in universalism, everyone is going to heaven.

The Bible connects universal redemption and universal, objective, justification and treats them as the same. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:5-7. Christ died for all. This Rydecki does not reject. But in the same book, a chapter earlier, Paul writes, But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, Romans 4:4-6

God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many (i.e., all) were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many (i.e., all) will be made righteous. (Rom 5:18,19)

The Lutheran Confessions, although not using the term objective justification, teach this concept.

But when the Lord Jesus Christ came, He forgave to all people the sin, which no one could avoid. … Christ took away the sin of the whole world, as John testified saying in John 1:29, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” Apology, Art IV, Justification, 103 Concordia, page 99

Just as the preaching of repentance is universal, so also the promise of the Gospel is universal, that is, it belongs to all people. Formula of Concord, Art XI, 28, Concordia, p. 606

All have sinned and (all) are justified freely. Smalcald Articles, second part, Art. I,3, Concordia, page 263.

[GJ - He has to add his NNIV "all" to make UOJ show up where it is not - a bit dishonest.

3] Likewise: All have sinned and are justified without merit [freely, and without their own works or merits] by His grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, in His blood, Rom. 3:23f. SA, II, I, 3.]

By way of illustration: A man pays my entire debt, gives me a check, and declares me debt free. But I must believe this, cash the check. It does me no good until I cash it. But I cannot cash it before he declares me debt free. [GJ - Where is this lame analogy in the Bible - II Seymour?]

This clear teaching that God has declared all people righteous, Objective Justification (WELS catechism, question 253) Rydecki refuses to accept and teach. Thus he is rightly to be removed from the ministry of the WELS!

Pastor M.F. Bartling
Onalaska, WI, Oct. 2012

Mark Bartling hails the cowardly DP Buchholz action.
Here he is reading II Seymour to the DP.

GJ - I met Mark Bartling, former LCR pastor, retired as a WELS pastor. He had nothing bad to say about WELS until he was safely retired.

Obviously, Mark has no idea what synergism is. He is as bad as the pastors who equate justification by faith with Calvinism.

WELS has republished J. P. Meyer's Ministers of Christ, where the Mequon professor teaches--for all time--decision theology, like Walther. But what a decision! Walther  and Meyer-

  1. The entire world of unbelievers is forgiven, absolved, and saved.
  2. Now make a decision about this information.

Bartling is abusing Romans 4:25 without naming the passage.

His precious double-justification language is from Halle Pietist Georg Christian Knapp, not the Bible.

Comments from Readers about the Delusions of Jack Kilcrease -
Paul McCain's Theological Expert

LPC has left a new comment on your post "Cannot Spell, Cannot Write, Cannot Grasp Justifica...":

Dr. Greg.

I read this from Jack Kilcrease --- Part of Rydecki's problem is that he does not understand that the word "justification" is being used differently when applied to OJ and SJ.

Is Kilcrease being serious? Aren't theologians also good at philosophy? I could not believe this guy ever said this.

I could not stop LOLing. I am now ROFLOLing.

Jack does not know what an equivocation is. Ohhhh, now I get it ha.... IT IS NOW RYDECKI's fault because Rydecki does not want to follow the equivocation on justification followed byf UOJers eyh?

A while back some moons ago, I alluded to Jack that I am concern about what his students are learning from him.

I won't recommend people go to his university to study.

LPC

LPC has left a new comment on your post "Do Not Play Games with Words - Or With the Word of...":

Yeah, Jack Kilcrease just admitted in his post that he and fellow UOJers practice equivocation.

We all know that but to be bold enough to "justify" themselves in their equivocation is not something I have seen so far.

People, equivocation is not a good thing.

I refer people to the book by Irving Copi, a classic in Logic 101, p.76-77.

Really UOJers should stop posting and stop arguing at this point, they should not go out of their homes until they have read this book on logic.

I admire your courage to visit the Kilcrease site. I have not been there and never intend to do so.

But, be that as it may; I can't help but think that after this published Ichabod comment posting (of yours) about Kilcrease's self-admitted "equivocation," - he will now kilcrease that posted comment of his.

A. Berean has left a new comment on your post "Cannot Spell, Cannot Write, Cannot Grasp Justifica...":

What about this statement: "Rydecki seems to be operating with the rather odd perspective that the language set down by the Formula of Concord is authoritative for all time. "
Why wouldn't it be? "we have no intention of yielding aught of the eternal, immutable truth of God for the sake of temporal peace, tranquillity, and unity (which, moreover, is not in our power to do)." - FC, Election.

So then..the language set down by the scriptures might be authoritative, but the doctrine drawn from them can and has changed???

Jon Buchholz and WELS District Presidents Are Anti-Luther,
So Please Do Not Tarnish the Reformation with More UOJ Nonsense

http://ichabodthegloryhasdeparted.blogspot.com/2012/04/luthers-sermons-matthew-91-8-nineteenth.html

Luther - Trinity 19, Second Sermon:

12. For this reason the greatest skill and intelligence is needed to grasp and understand this righteousness, and in our hearts and before God rightly to distinguish it from the above mentioned outward righteousness. For this is, as has been said, the skill and the wisdom of the Christian, but it is so high and great that even all the beloved Apostles could not speak enough of it; and yet it meets the painful misfortune that no art is mastered as soon as this.

There is no greater theme for a preacher than the grace of God and the forgiveness of sin, yet we are such wicked people, that, when we have once heard or read it, we think we know it, are immediately masters and doctors, keep looking for something greater, as though we had done everything, and thus we made new factions and division.

13. I have now been teaching and studying this subject with all diligence for many years (more than any one of those who imagine they know it all), in preaching, writing and reading, yet I cannot boast of having mastered it and am glad that I still remain a pupil with those who are just beginning to learn. For this reason I must admonish and warn all such as want to be Christians, both teachers and pupils, that they guard themselves against such shameful delusion and surfeit, and understand that this subject is most difficult and the greatest art that can be found upon earth; so that even Paul had to confess and say ( 2 Corinthians 9:15) that it is an unspeakable gift, that is, one which cannot be described among men with words so that they may regard it as highly and dearly as it really is in itself.

14. The reason for this is, that man’s understanding cannot get beyond this external piety of works, and cannot comprehend the righteousness of faith; but, the greater and more skillful this understanding is, the more it confines itself to works and rests upon them. It is not possible for man in times of temptation and distress, when his conscience smites him, to cease from groping around for works on which to stand and rest.

GJ -

Roughly one day after I posted this selection on this blog, it appeared on the Facebook post of another pastor, someone in the LCMS. That does not prove he kelmed my post. Anyone can copy from Lenker's edition of Luther, but few do. I was pleased to see this significant point repeated in another forum.

I found it while waiting in the doctor's office. I usually grab a Luther volume when I anticipate waiting. Sometimes I get very tired of reading Lutheran history, but I never tire of Luther's sermons. The older I get, the more I appreciate Luther's insights on everything. Lenker published two sermons on this text, each one filled with spiritual wisdom.

I see no evidence of nominal Lutheran leaders enjoying a steady diet of Luther. Their approach to Luther, the Book of Concord, and the Scriptures reminds me of chickens walking around the farmyard,  suddenly pecking at a scrap of food. If the observer scatters some grain, they cluck like wild, flap their wings, and settle down for a feast. Give the UOJ Flock a new citation and they throw up a loud cry of glee and devour it.

The same points get re-cycled regularly. Here is the one about the Keys, which I posted long ago:

http://ichabodthegloryhasdeparted.blogspot.com/2011/02/false-support-of-uoj-exposed-by-layman.html

That excerpt from Humann (40:366) is the third or fourth time I have seen that particular portion of Luther's commentary pulled from its theme and used badly in support of UOJ.

It is from Luther's writing: The Keys.

The whole section is proving that binding and loosing is binding and loosing. If that is not believed, action of the keys is still true. Here is the section from which that small portion is pulled and misused. The boldface is mine.

On page 366 there is more from Luther:

Rely on the words of Christ and be assured that God has no other way to forgive sins than through the spoken Word, as he has commanded us. If you do not look for forgiveness through the Word, you will gape toward heaven in vain for grace, or (as they say), for a sense of inner forgiveness.

But if you speak as the factious spirits and sophists do: “After all, many hear of the binding and loosing of the keys, yet it makes no impression on them and they remain unbound and without being loosed. Hence, there must exist something else beside the Word and the keys. It is the spirit, the spirit, yes, the spirit that does it!” Do you believe he is not bound who does not believe in the key which binds? Indeed, he shall learn, in due time, that his unbelief did not make the binding vain, nor did it fail in its purpose. Even he who does not believe that he is free and his sins forgiven shall also learn, in due time, how assuredly his sins were forgiven, even though he did not believe it. St. Paul says in Rom. 3[:3]: “Their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God.” We are not talking here either about people’s belief or disbelief regarding the efficacy of the keys. We realize that few believe. We are speaking of what the keys accomplish and give. He who does not accept what the keys give receives, of course, nothing. But this is not the key’s fault.
Luther, M. (1999, c1958). Vol. 40: Luther's works, vol. 40 : Church and Ministry II (J. J. Pelikan, H. C. Oswald & H. T. Lehmann, Ed.). Luther's Works (40:366). Philadelphia: Fortress Press.

Of course, this has nothing to do with the Atonement, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection, but describes a special application of the Word. The misquoters ignore the sentence just preceding the boldface portion, misunderstand 'binding' and Luther's pointed underscoring, and skip the reference to faithlessness in the Romans 3:3 excerpt that follows.

Far be it from me to get into an argument with Mr. Humann. You, Brett, LPC, and now Rick, are well more able than I at that. It is clear that Humann is misusing Luther's words just as the UOJ Enthusiasts misuse quotations from Scripture, which he also did.

The quotation I sent is the two sentences immediately before the above section. Thank you for thinking my effort worthy of emphasis.

What great lengths those folks go to as they try to bolster their erroneous teachings.

Brett Meyer has left a new comment on your post "False Support of UOJ Exposed by Layman":

MichiGander, here are additional quotes from the Confessions which clearly show that the Office of the Keys to remit sins applies only to those who have faith in Christ alone. Also, Luther confirms that changing anything that God instituted, as he instituted it, including the keys, removes God from it and makes it invalid.

Book of Concord
6] Let any one of the adversaries come forth and tell us when remission of sins takes place. O good God, what darkness there is! They doubt whether it is in attrition or in contrition that remission of sins occurs. And if it occurs on account of contrition, what need is there of absolution, what does the power of the keys effect, if sins have been already remitted? Here, indeed, they also labor much more, and wickedly detract from the power of the keys.
http://www.bookofconcord.org/defense_10_repentance.php

From the Private Mass and the Consecration of Priests, “For we must believe and be sure of this, that baptism does not belong to us but to Christ, that the gospel does not belong to us but to Christ, that the office of preaching does not belong to us but to Christ, that the sacrament (of the Lord’s Supper) does not belong to us but to Christ, that the keys, or forgiveness and retention of sins, do not belong to us but to Christ. In summary, the offices and sacraments do not belong to us but to Christ, for he has ordained all this and left it behind as a legacy in the church to be exercised and used to the end of the world; and he does not lie or deceive us. Therefore, we cannot make anything else out of it but must act according to his command and hold to it. However, if we alter it or improve on it, then it is invalid and Christ is no longer present, nor is his ordinance.”

Brett Meyer has left a new comment on your post "False Support of UOJ Exposed by Layman":

MichiGander is correct - the Lutheran Confession's teaching concerning the Office of the Keys has been perverted by those wanting to establish the false gospel of UOJ as the central article of Christian faith. Here are a few.

Pastor Steven P. Dorn, WELS
Exegesis of Objective Justification Passages
2010 Spring Pastoral Study Conference, April 2010
"Reconciliation; that is, God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself; meaning, he no longer counts against the people of the world, their "trespasses."
In his discourse on the Ministry of the Keys, Luther explains the objective nature of God's verdict of forgiveness apart from faith. …

Pastor Schleicher quoting Siegbert W. Becker
Is Objective Justification Universalism
And the Lord Jesus also promises to stand behind the word of those who speak for him. “Whosoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them.” “They are remitted” is a perfect tense, and we can really say ‘”They have been forgiven long ago,” or as Luther says, “before we prayed or before we ever thought of it.”

Pastor Kurt Marquart
JUSTIFICATION-0BJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE: A Translation of the Doctrinal Essay Read at the First Convention of the Synodical Conference in 1872
So then the Absolution is an object for our faith and not a mere pointer to faith . The promise must always stand before our eyes, and in it all terrified souls are to seek consolation and forgiveness and be lifted up by it. On the other hand, if faith must be there first , then faith is made into something quite different from what it really is; it is then no longer a grasping and accepting of the existing benefits. [GJ - This is the Eduard Preuss argument, which is never associated with his switch to being a Roman Catholic theologian.]

(W)ELS CA/AZ DP Pastor Jon Buchholz
Justification, given at the 2005 WELS Convention
“God has forgiven the whole world. God has forgiven everyone his sins.” This statement is absolutely true! This is the heart of the gospel, and it must be preached and taught as the foundation of our faith.
Page 7

“God has forgiven all sins, but the unbeliever rejects God’s forgiveness.” Again, this statement is true—and Luther employed similar terminology to press the point of Christ’s completed work of salvation.16 But we must also recognize that Scripture doesn’t speak this way.

MichiGander,

Thanks for the full quote. Your observation is correct, it is the habit of UOJers to pull quotes out of context.

As usual, a text without a context is pretext for promoting false notions and teachings.

Now these people are no ordinary non-seminary trained pastors. No, they are very trained and seminary graduates and yet, and yet, and yet... their arguments and methods are so high-schoolish that a layman applying a bit of discernment will notice how their method is so faulty and scholarship so unreliable.

We would be fools to hand over the health of our souls for their care.

There is such as thing as quack doctors;by analogy, these people are quack pastors.

Sola Fide Has Been Bad - Not Allowed To Post on LutherQuest (sic)

solafide (http://solafide.myopenid.com/) has left a new comment on your post "Exegetes Unite - Abraham Is the Common Theme in Ju...":

Given their own definitions:
Objective Justification = Christ died for ALL SIN.

Subjective Justification = Christ died FOR YOUR SIN.

If Christ "died for ALL SIN" did not happen, then how do you know that Christ died FOR YOUR SIN.

I am wondering how the UOJ'ers reconcile the fact that Abraham was justified for his faith alone, BEFORE the Objective Justification they so love happened at Calvary.

Simple answer: They can't. They ignore it.

As a note to Brett Meyer, since I am not allowed to post on LutherQuest:

This is from a WELS Professor, who will remain nameless for his own protection:
"the "all" in Ro 3:23 is not all people, believers and unbelievers alike, but all the believers who were just mentioned in verse 22."

GJ -

Faith/believe times five - not all times two. This is one of many classic justification by faith passages in the Bible. Only a doofus could turn it into UOJ - but there is a boundless supply of doofi.

KJV Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

The red all is not in the text and is not even found in the old NIV.

Romans 3:22-28

New New International Version (NIV)
22 This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all [sic] are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[b] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. 27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

The edition of the second all, the red all, is proof that the UOJ position is wrong and deceitful. The unionists who produced the old NIV were not content to eliminate the sacraments from the New Testament. They had to turn justification by faith into Universalism. The second all delivers the text into  the hands of the Pharisees.

By clamoring for the New NIV, the Mequon faculty has revealed its identification with National Council of Churches/World Council of Churches thinking - "Why can't we all simply disbelieve together?" And they do.

Sola - the Abraham problem is a reason why the UOJ Hive never ventures beyond their shallow talking-points. They cannot harmonize the Catechism with their nonsense. To see the Scriptures as a whole, which we must do, is impossible for them.

If WELS is forced to back down from the NNIV, they will still propagandize for it at Mequon, until they get what they want.

Wendland smuggled UOJ into his brain-washing sessions, titled Justification by Faith.
Typical UOJ misdirection of the mind.

Exegetes Unite - Abraham Is the Common Theme in Justification

Justification by faith in Romans and Galatians has a common theme - Abraham, based on Genesis 15.

KJV Genesis 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. 6 And he believed in the LORD; and He counted it to him for righteousness.

Believing and counting [imputing] for righteousness are united in this passage, and Paul uses this bedrock passage for justification by faith, with these words - imputing and believing.

In the Kregel Galatians Commentary, by Luther, the statements referring to Abraham seem endless. I will post some of them.

There is another anchor - Jesus addressing the religious opponents in John 8. The opponents yell, "We have Walther for a father." [Jackson New Living International Paraphrase]

KJV John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM. 59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

This is another reference to Abraham's justification by faith. As Luther taught, Old Testament justification by faith is no different from New Testament justification by faith.

What is common in all these places? Abraham believed and was declared righteous. Abraham was justified by faith. This is simple. The Gospel Promises create faith through the work of the Holy Spirit in the Word. Through faith, the believer receives what is promised by the Word, earned by the atonement.

But the Law-Mongers of today, who use Walther to set aside Luther, Paul, and Christ Himself, do more than ignore this. Justification by faith moves them to fury. They threaten, accuse, and silence. Trinity in Bridgeport, Missouri told Herman Otten that they would give no more money to Christian News if the editor continued to publish my articles.

What stirs up the wrath of Jon Buchholz, the Sausage Factory, Tim Glende, Jack Cascione, and Paul McCain? Justification by faith.

WELS tolerates any false doctrine - promotes it, publishes it, funds it, defends it. But the Biblical, Lutheran doctrine of justification by faith? - They march in to smash it, to threaten, silence, and excommunicate. More than they - they doggedly divide family and friends, congregations and pastors - all for the love of universal forgiveness without faith.
