Luke 24:12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. 

17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? 18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 And he said unto them, What things?  The Three Blind Mice at Emmaus

 Matthew 15:14 14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

GJ - The three Objective Justification sects meet yearly at Emmaus to increase the damage they have caused to the Gospel. In a few more years, they will be ready to join ELCA, bawling on her shoulders, hoping the terms for reconciliation will be merciful.

This reading from Luke should never be neglected, because the risen Lord - the Exegete, according to the Apostle John - explained the Scriptures concerning Himself, starting with the Books of Moses.

Genesis 1:1 begins with the Father commanding and the Logos executing the will of the Father, as witnessed by the Holy Spirit. This is explained and expanded in John 1, which also starts "In the beginning..."

This is a unique perspective on time, which belongs only to God. The timeline for the Son of God was established down to the smallest details in the Old Testament. The Old and New Testaments are woven together completely. They are one unified Truth - The Book of the Holy Spirit. 

The battle is over in the Lutheran Synods, from ELCA down to the twitching fragments of Waltherdom. They have outgrown Luther and the Bible. Now they are openly marketing Calvinism, Rationalism, and their need for funds for more of the same.

John Sparky Brenner Exposes His Bias in Jars of Clay - Not a History But a Cover-Up

 Why do WELS clergy and laity ignore this example of JP Meyer's Scriptural wisdom while embracing his anti-Christian dogma of UOJ?

For all the bluster about WELS being Scriptural, in contrast to LCMS dogmatic statements, both sects are the same. They owned the German language and had all the sources at their disposal, but both synods fostered and promoted the anti-Christian cancer of Universal Objective Justification. Meanwhile, they fussed over trivia and staged great debates about adiaphora, avoiding the Chief Article - Justification by Faith.

Note - here is Pastor Vernon Harley's Justification by Faith essay. My wife and I met him and his wife before he died.

John Sparky Brenner is not an analytical historian like Thucydides but a tall tale teller like Herodotus. Here is a good example from his PR book, Jars of Clay.

Pastor John P. Meyer served as president of the WELS seminary,1937-1957. His teaching career spanned many decades. He began at Northwestern College in Watertown in 1902. His dogmatics notes were still be used in the 1980s, proving his post-humus influence.

JP Meyer is known for his commentary on II Corinthians, Ministers of Christ. Brenner wrote:
The commentary is a masterpiece offering, among other things, practical advice on Christian stewardship and insight into the precious doctrine of objective justification. Jars, p. 184.

He also wrote Studies in the Augsburg Confession. Really? His three Kokomo Statements are idiotic and contradict the Augsburg Confess - not to mention the entire Bible, Augustine, Luther, and the Book of Concord.

 Three of the four Kokomo Statements are from this book and remain unchanged, even though edited by Armin Panning, former seminary president and New Testament Greek professor!

Where were all the Biblical scholars? the studious laity? the parochial teachers?

WELS plays a game of GA double-talk. They pretend to back away from the Kokomo UOJ Statements but they seethe and hurl anathemas at anyone teaching Justification by Faith. I question whether John Sparky Brenner can even say those three words - Justification by Faith - and explain them from the Scriptures and the Book of Concord.

If UOJ is a precious doctrine, then Justification by Faith must be darkness and corruption. Imagine how distorted the brains of the Mordor students must be upon graduation and ordination in WELS!

Brenner - "Hoenecke, who was a Wisconsin Synod spokesman at a few of the free conferences, explained that doctrine must be drawn from those passages that teach that doctrine. We draw the doctrine of election from those passages that teach the doctrine of election, not from passages that teach justification by faith. Koehler summarizes Hoenecke’s comments from the free conference in Milwaukee in 1903." Emmaus paper.

GJ - Zounds. Hoenecke had no sense of the unified witness of the Scriptures, but chose to follow the thetical approach of Walther. That is - the thesis is solemnly pronounced first, then Scriptures are cited or mismatched to the dogmatic statement.

From Dan the Dense on Walther - "Walther believed in objective justification (John 1:29; Romans 5:18; 2 Corinthians 5:15 & 19). His 14th thesis reads: “In the tenth place, the Word of God is not rightly divided when faith is required as a condition of justification and salvation, as if a person were righteous in the sight of God and saved, not only by faith, but also on account of his faith, for the sake of his faith, and in view of his faith.”13

GJ - Daniel, have you read Justification and Rome? How about Romans 4? Romans 5:1-2? The Gospel of John?

Wherever two or three LCMS leaders are gathered together, CFW Walther worship begins. This Emmaus debacle was held in late April, but the papers are not posted yet. In this day of instant publishing, the papers could have been linked on the website. I recall Mirthless Mark Schroeder did not want his shared, years ago, not that he said anything worth publishing. Here is the non-archive archive.

The May 8th Christian News must be the archive, because they posted some promotional bits and photos about the event...afterwards. Oh dear, I missed the conference altogether. David Becker found the event disappointing, albeit without being there. Compared to WELS Luther Days, where Jay Webber spoke to one (1) person - and Natalie Pratt disappeared with the money - Emmaus 2017 was probably a smash hit.

We all know that Preus descendants are the Agent Orange of Justification by Faith. Whenever they suspect that Luther's doctrine is being taught somewhere, they spray their toxic dogma from Halle Rationalists all over, until nothing is left living: no faith, no Gospel, no fruits of the Gospel.

Does anyone wonder why the ELS is almost gone and WELS is corrupt beyond measure? To those who are kicked out of WELS, I always say, "Good for you. They did you a great favor." Alcoholism and adultery are not problems among WELS clergy and teachers - they are resume enhancers, if someone has the right friends and the wrong doctrine.

The strength of the LCMS is its mix of Pentecostal, ELCA wannabees, Walther worshipers, and Lutherans. The Missouri Synod is such a rainbow coalition that the bureaucrats do not have the power or urge to crack down on the Chief Article of the Christian Faith. Anyway, they have Otten to do their work for them. And Logorrhea - and their Fuller/Rome seminaries.

How bad is WELS? At Mordor Seminary in Mequon, Wendland is the salesman-in-charge of the New NIV. Valleskey was the previous president, based on years of gushing about Church Growth and studying at Fuller with his pal Bivens (also on the faculty). When I was there in 1987, I did not hear Church Growth promoted in the classroom. But once everyone was "finished," they were also required to attend the post MDiv training, which was all Church Growth. Besides that, when I accepted the call to Shepherd of Peace in Columbus, Ohio, the congregation had me attend Paul Kelm's Church Growth "evangelism seminar," which lasted a week. That event was stocked with such CG kahunas as Valleskey, Hartman, Kelm, Larry Olson, and such like.

This article concerning justification by faith (as the Apology says) is the chief article in the entire Christian doctrine, without which no poor conscience can have any firm consolation, or can truly know the riches of the grace of Christ, as Dr. Luther also has written: If this only article remains pure on the battlefield, the Christian Church also remains pure, and in goodly harmony and without any sects; but if it does not remain pure, it is not possible that any error or fanatical spirit can be resisted. Someone Is Missing from the 500th Anniversary Emmaus Conference - Luther

These guys know next to nothing about Luther, so they make their synodical heroes "unsuspecting Luthers."

Luther earned a doctorate and had a distinguished career when he began the Reformation by posting his theses in Latin.

Walther had a BA and was a loyal disciple of an adulterous, syphilitic Pietist - Martin Stephan.

Luther taught the same consistent doctrine - Justification by Faith based on the efficacy of the Word.

Walther taught consistently against Luther and the Scriptures, basing his dogma on what he learned from Stephan, who never graduated from a university - but attended Halle U. and dropped out. Walther confessed and did not deny, but confessed that he learned justification from Stephan.

Luther changed the concept of the Christian home by living it.

Walther hypocritically covered for the adultery of Stephan, joined in the exodus caused by Stephan's house arrest, and soon "discovered the adultery" - an excuse to organize a mob, threaten and rob Stephan, and kidnap him to Illinois.

As someone observed, the Stephanite migration was a cancer transplant. So how does any of that make Walther "the American Luther"?

Avoid Terminology Meltdown at the Emmaus Conference 2017

The time has come to stop praising an absence of faith,
which may be called UOJ but is really the foundation of all sin.

The leaders of the Emmaus Conference in 2017 could avoid embarrassing themselves the way Jay Webber did in 2015. It is never too later to recognize error and repudiate it.

Here are some basics.

Vocabulary is the key. If someone sticks to Reformation and Biblical terminology, correct teaching is more likely to follow.

The Atonement is not being disputed among Lutherans, so it is a foolish waste of time to keep insisting that Justification by Faith means a "Limited Atonement," as if Christ only died for the elect. He died for the sins of mankind, once and for all.

Therefore, Justification by Faith is not Calvinism. That charge is akin to calling Tom Brady a linebacker. The Lutheran Reformation has always been associated with Justification by Faith. Romans and Galatians teach Justification by Faith. So do the other Pauline letters.

No one should confuse the Atonement with Justification, using one term for the other. The Atonement has many synonyms, and redemption is one of the clearest to use. Christ has redeemed the world, but that is not the same as "God has declared the entire world righteous."

Whether someone uses Universal Objective Justification (a WELS obsession), or Objective Justification (LCMS-ELS) or General Justification (Hoenecke), all three terms teach the same nonsense - utterly wrong and ridiculous. They insist that God has "declared the entire world righteous" or "absolved the world of its sins" and even "saved the entire world."

Making up new claims is clownish, but the UOJ peddlers never stop. Jesus did not declare the world forgiven when He said "It is finished" on the cross. He said that as a statement of His atoning death. Let's not make things up - that is a job for Enthusiasm, the creative manufacture of dogma.

God did not declare the entire world righteous when He raised Jesus from the dead. The justification of Jesus in 1 Timothy 3:16 is the proof of His sinless nature, since all sinners die.

The angelic blessing of the shepherds is not UOJ, as some would love to claim. "Peace on earth" is not world absolution. Note that all three "Moments of World Absolution - Without Faith" contradict each other, typical of Enthusiasm. For example. Roman Catholics cannot figure out if Purgatory lasts several weeks or several thousand years. They have taught Mary ascending into heaven as a Holy Day, so some want to add Joseph to this honor peculiar to the Son of God.

Thus, with mission creep, the bimbos of LutherQuest echo JP Meyer in having everyone in Hell forgiven and having the status of a saint. And Jay Webber confusedly has "in Christ" refer to the entire world, and not simply to believers, as the Word plainly shows.

Anyone can follow a theme in the Bible and see how it unifies the One Truth of the Scriptures. Abraham is a good example, justified by faith in Genesis 15, believing the Promises of God that he will be a father of nations. Abraham is the prime example of Justification by Faith in Romans 4, Galatians, Hebrews, James, etc. To fix UOJ - which is impossible - one would have to show Abraham was justified without faith in God's Promises.

If Abraham is not clear enough, then turn to Jesus. We are justified "by the faith of Jesus" in Romans 3:22, Galatians 2:16, and Philippians 3:9. Thy precious NIVs and even the NewKJVs mistranslate these passages as "faith in Jesus." The original text and KJV and Tyndale have "the faith of Jesus..."

Thus - the New NIV has to insert an "all" into the text to make it agree with Webber, Valeskey, Bivens, Scaer, and the National Council of Churches - all are justified. Shameful - and no one seems to notice.

KJV Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [all have sinned, but not all are justified]

NIV Romans 3:22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. [all have sinned and all are justified - like magic. Notice how this mistranslation fits so well into faith in the false dogma of world absolution.]

If you deny their precious UOJ, the Scaerites
will jump on you like a hobo on a hotdog.

Lastly, one cannot teach the invisible and visible Means of Grace and UOJ-OJ at the same time. The invisible Word of teaching and preaching convey Christ to us through the Holy Spirit. The visible Word of the sacraments also bring Christ to us through the work of the Holy Spirit. Claims of world absolution trouble the House of Faith and inherit the wind, always yielding a tornado of false doctrine and destruction everywhere.

KJV Proverbs 22:29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

Lutheran Clericalism Suffers Badly from Their Doctrine of Infallibility

Reading in context makes all the difference
between pixelating a phrase like "raised for our justification"
and understanding the Word of God.
Pope John 22 - not often mentioned - wisely rejected the Roman Catholic doctrine of infallibility, which some were promoting. He knew it would bind him to previous decisions and decrees.

Centuries later, a weakened and stumbling papacy insisted on papal infallibility, and Vatican I affirmed what Pope Pius IX wanted.

As I have shown many times before, WELS and LCMS have a history of teaching Justification by Faith and not UOJ - Justification without Faith.

Now that they are committed to clergy infallibility, the "conservative" Lutheran synods have to keep piling on more essays about their precious UOJ, even though they refuted themselves by citing Romans 4 - and even by citing anything from the Bible.

WELS has about 60 or so essays on their Satanic dogma of UOJ. The Emmaus Hootenanny will add more.

WELS Professor John "Sparky" Brenner will present at Emmaus. His nickname should be "Spineless."

• When I asked Brenner about Valleskey's essay - that drooled over Church Growth and lied in his claim about Evangelicals "downplaying the Means of Grace" - Spineless said, "Write a letter." I asked whether the faculty had any responsibility for their Wisconsin Lutheran Quarterly. Frau Brenner scowled at me during the conversation, like, "How dare you question an infallible professor at Mordor!"
• By the way, when I published an essay in Christian News, taking apart Valleskey's Figs From Thistles essay, the Bethany Seminary faculty jumped all over Little Ichabod, as if he wrote it. I never heard from those weasels at all.  [By the way - Valleksey admitted to David Koenig, CLC, that he did attend Fuller Seminary, as Bivens did, but Valleskey lied about it when I asked him directly.]
• When two students went to speak to Spineless about the abuses of GA, the secretive hazing ritual at Mordor, the Dean defended GA, saying, "It has good benefits too."
• After one prospective student was sexually assaulted by a student when visiting the Mordor campus, he complained about it to Brenner. The response was "You are too thin-skinned."
• Anyone who complains to Brenner will find himself pushed out of the seminary program, as were all three students mentioned above - and yes, I know about these incidents from them.
• Spineless needed remedial work before he was accepted into the doctoral program at UW. WELS has such a superior educational program that no one recognizes it.

Please Explain This - I Am Listening. How Did Luther Anticipate Objective Jstification 300 Years Before Its Articulation by a Calvinist Translating a Pietist?

Calvinist Leonard Woods, Junior, graduated from Andover Seminary.
He explained Knapp's theology with these terms -
Objective Justification and Subjective Justification.

Objective Justification is the Helen of Troy for the Synodical Conference, the dogma that launched a thousand essays. Simply put, OJ states that God declared the entire world forgiven when Christ died - or when Christ rose from the dead. They have not decided on the Moment of Absolution, but the entire unbelieving world was absolved on or about Good Friday - they say. We have not yet heard from the Holy Spirit where this dogma is revealed, but in a world where John Lawrenz debates with the Holy Spirit and almost wins, anything goes.

A related matter is the salvation of the entire unbelieving world. That is often claimed by OJ Enthusiasts, who say, "I was saved 2,000 years ago!" That gets awkward, dating their salvation from the approximate time Jesus was in the Temple. The more astute among the false teachers say, "I was saved at Calvary." Redeemed, yes, but not saved.

Objective Justification and its overlooked partner, Subjective Justification, were articulated by a Calvinist, Leonard Woods Junior, the super-star son of Leonard Woods, Senior, the first theology professor of Andover Seminary - also a Calvinist.

But Subjective Justification is not Justification by Faith, as some might assume, just as OJ is not the atonement, in their own words. Subjective Justification means accepting the dogma of Objective Justification.

These two terms - OJ and SJ -  came from a Calvinist translator of the Halle University professor's Pietistic lectures on theology - George Christian Knapp. His German doctrinal book was published in 1827 and translated by the Calvinist Woods in 1831.

Explain this - how did Luther teach Objective Justification 300 years before the term was articulated by a Calvinist, Woods, translating a German Pietist, Knapp?

The quotation above, from the commentary commended by the Formula of Concord editors to explain justification, repudiates the claim solemnly declared by Jay Webber, ELS pastor with an STM from an ELCA online seminary.

Where did Walther obtain his special revelation about universal absolution without faith? The scholars have shown, and Walther admitted, that he learned his OJ from Bishop Martin Stephan, who studied at Halle but never graduated from any university.

Now we begin to smell the pot-roast, as Luther said. The concept of OJ came to Protestants through Pietism.

An Even Bigger Question
Lutherans are about to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. But they dodge this question with the greatest of ease.

• WELS claims twice in their precious Essay File that OJ is the Chief Article of the Christian religion. 
• The ELS and LCMS are itching to work with WELS on the basis of OJ. 
• ELCA teaches exactly the same false doctrine, because their various segments all came from Pietism too. 

When Benjamin Mayes announced his call to Concordia Seminary, Ft. Wayne, he mentioned his work editing Luther's works at CPH. I had to ask -

Mayes holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Concordia University Nebraska (1997), a M.Div. from CTSFW (2003) and a Ph.D. in Historical Theology from Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan (2009). While working on his doctorate he served as assistant pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids. He has taught as an adjunct professor at CTSFW since 2011. Most recently, he has worked as an editor for Concordia Publishing House (CPH), St. Louis, Missouri. He will continue to serve CPH as managing editor and co-general editor of Luther’s Works: American Edition. He and his wife, Rebecca, have two sons, Caleb and Jonathan.
