Babies Are Good News

However the presidential campaign turns out this year, one thing will be different. Americans have never seen such a positive emphasis on babies.

Sarah Palin had her fifth child, knowing the baby boy had Down's Syndrome. Thirty years ago, doctors were saying to parents, "We can test the baby, just in case, you know..." The campaign will do a lot to emphasize how parents have accepted, loved, even adored their special children. Down's Syndrome children are the most lovable of all children. God gives handicapped children a special quotient of charm and special characteristics, to make up for the extra challenges. The difficulties are a shock at first, but parents learn to love the child especially, not in spite of, but because of those qualities, the combination of difficulties and unique blessings.

The Palin's oldest daughter jumped the gun and started a family early. Having the baby and getting married are two great testimonies in an age of convenience and destruction. Our Pharisaical prudery makes it easy for people to take the easy way out. The grandchild is being given a chance to live, to love and be loved. The path is not easy for any of the Palins, in the glare of national publicity.

Meanwhile, the Left rages. I am not surprised. Years ago, before Clinton, I witnessed conservative pastors defending and lying for a clergy sex offender while attacking those who happened to be ill. People like that dig their own holes and never see it is getting darker and darker where they dwell and delve.
