Time of Enthusiasm

"I'm too sexy for the WELS, too sexy for the WELS, too sexy..."

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Parsing the Call":

off subject perhaps,
but did you know that a top administrator at St. Marcus school isn't even
a Christian?

Good job Henry Tyson
Good job Mark Jeske

...oh wait, that's right, Mark Jeske no longer chooses to acknowledge his call to St. Marcus, giving his time to time of grace

***

GJ - I was going to mention that the official WELS site links to Time of Enthusiasm--for worship--and again to the commercial enterprises of TOE, but Jeske does not reciprocate. He pulls money from WELS donors and then gets grants from all the foundations and $250,000 from Thrivent.

Can anyone tell he is a Lutheran or WELS from his broadcasts, which are subsidized and supported by WELS?

He is a stealth leader of Church and Change, with no less than three staffmembers serving on the board, though Ski left for A-town and Bruce Becker left the board (or at least the board webpage).

According to Jeske, everything has to change. Is anyone perplexed that his former assistant pastor was trained by Stanley, Groeschel, and Granger Community Church for the Popcorn Cathedral of Rock ministry?

WELS is clearly divided and devouring itself on its own website, which happens to be run by a Bill Hybels devotee.

Jeske is a joke. I hear the Crystal Cathedral needs a new worship leader since dad kicked the son to the curb. Maybe we can send Jeske a job application for this position.

Excommunicate that bastard Jeske!!!!

I may be accused of vulgarity for saying that Jeske is a bastard. Luckily I can use an inflammitory word that happens to be absolutely accurate.
Jeske is a bastard.

Jeske is an illigitimate Lutheran. He works tirelessly to disassociate himself with the Lutheranism. He is ashamed of the Confessions.

It is not crude to say that Jeske is a bastard.

I feel bad about writing this note though because it will only increase BastardJeske's arrogance. He reads this and thinks, with a smug expression, "I will bear my cross for now...sooner or later they will learn that our covert takeover was for they're enlightenment"

I have read that Time of Grace is broadcast in 13 states.

What an evangelism opportunity!!

Imagine teaching how we, as sinful/lost souls are truly saved through the life, death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, AND letting the lost, hurting souls know that they can receive the Means of Grace by contacting their local W/ELS congregation!!!

This, however does NOT happen on Time of Grace.

Rev Jeske is Lutheran, and a member of WELS by choice.

His denial of that choice through Time of Grace is evidence that he must be true to his ordination vows and immediately and permanently remove himself from the WELS, to which he voluntarily bound himself.

Beware, you are now entering the twilight zone with secret agent Jeske.

SJ,

You sound like a typical hacked off called worker coming straight from a called worker's union meeting.

Since we're piling on Jeske, let's not forget his horrendous sermon last year:

"Even bad governments do God's work by keeping some semblance of order in the streets. Even the government of the Soviet Union under Stalin was doing the work of God. Even China, under Mao Tse-Tung, was doing work for God."

[shrug] Eh, what's a hundred million murders.

Blogger William Griggs adds:
Oddly enough -- or perhaps not so oddly, given the freighted politics of the question -- Jeske omitted mention of the "work for God" carried out by Hitler's National Socialist regime, which while not as prolific at killing as the governments of Stalin and Mao, did refer to its attempts to annihilate Jews and others as a providential task.

The only thing that is piling up is the crap that this blog dishes out. GJ, SJ, DOW, BM, and the rest can't stand the fact that Time of Grace, The CORE, St. Marcus, Parlow, Church and Change, etc., are actually making a difference and are reaching people with the Gospel.

Imagine a world without "Time of Enthusiasm" on the tube on Sunday mornings...

Why, Lutherans would actually have to make an effort and physically get up off the couch and go to church. Who knows, they might actually stand next to a stranger in church and sing to the neighbor a hymn rich with law and gospel. Golly, doing that would let that person actually personally fulfill Matthew 28:19, "Go ye therefore, and teach,..."

Instead our brothers with weak faith, who need our encouragement, get an excuse to sit in front of TV all Sunday (cause the Packers are playing at noon, and 10:30 service might run late with communion this week, so I'd better stay home so I don't miss the kickoff.)

There are dozens of false teachers on TV. I much rather prefer that the self-proclaimed "last Lutheran on TV" not remain in that Legion, let alone use the WELS money and imprimatur to do so.

[p.s. Before the Jeske fanboys start flaming about shut-ins, let me preemptively remind them of the tenuous condition of a shut-ins soul, if their only re-affirmation of faith is Jeske's mug on TV, instead of the comfort of the personal administration of the Means of Grace (Word & Holy Communion) by a visiting pastor.]

O'Worms,

You seem to know quite a bit about the Time of Grace audience. You know that the Lutherans that watch the show don't go to church. Maybe that's why WELS worship attendance is dropping. They are all staying home to watch Time of Grace. Yea, that's got to be the answer.

I can't wait to use your line when someone asks me why he should go to church...so you can stand next to a stranger in church and sing to the neighbor a hymn rich with law and gospel. How could anyone resist that?

This comment is to every anonymous poster who is a C&C Enthusiast. We confessional Lutherans are fine to let you remain anonymous if only you leave the WELS and join Elmbrook. If you choose to stay in the WELS and continue in errorist teaching then I must request that you give up anonimity so that we can warn our children about you.

Fortunately I know enough about my own fallen, old Adam heart to know the temptation is there, to take the easy way out. I assume I'm not the only sinner that lurks the comments on Itchy.

I also know there are a good number of well intentioned Lutherans in Milwaukee that watch Jeske at 8:00 before going to mid-service Bible study and then to church service. Unfortunately, they think they are getting a "double dose" of church.

Yes, one the reasons for a pure hymnody practice is to not just sing the words for our own benefit (learning text is sometimes easier when accompanied by music) but also to literally sing to my neighbor.

You didn't think God was the only one listening to you sing, did you? :-)

Personally, one of the more beautiful things in the world is standing outside my church listening through the open windows or open door to the whole congregation singing. Maybe it's because I'm not trying to sing too, or find the notes. I can just listen to the music and feel the words cleave through to my heart. Unfortunately that also usually means I'm late for church.

I will add for good, heaping measure that among the purposes of worship services is NOT to shake what yo' mama gave ya to the 'lectric slide boogie-woogie praise band. There are many other nightclubs, bars, and other venues for that ill-considered behavior.
