The Salvation Army in the Body of Christ
The Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church with its own distinctive governance and practice. Its doctrine follows the mainstream of Christian belief and its articles of faith emphasise (sic) God’s saving purposes.
The Salvation Army in the Body of Christ is an ecclesiological statement published by Salvation Books, International Headquarters. In his foreword General Clifton says of this short publication: 'It will be especially useful to those of us who are actively engaged in ecumenical relations and can readily be shared with others beyond our ranks if this will be an aid to mutual understanding. The Statement is not intended to say new things, but its purpose is to clarify and consolidate present global thinking on our identity within the wider Body of Christ.'

I guess Thrivent never read this verse:
NIV Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, ESPECIALLY to those who belong to the family of believers.
No wonder fewer people attend church--they know 1) no one will ask them to give money, and 2) they know that if they are ever in need, they have a better opportunity of receiving largess from the church if they don't attend church.
If Lutherans kept having large families of five or more children, Thrivent would not need to look elsewhere for business.
The downsizing of families has affected all the religions.
Anonymous at 9:29am, you're assuming that Thrivent is working with the Salvation Army church because they don't have enough business from Lutheran denominations?
How much different is the ELCA from the Salvation Army? ELCA is in fellowship with the Antichrist, has churches on it's roster that worship Christ Sophia and a feminine God, have rejected the doctrine which teaches Christ is God, claim that there are other ways to God than through Christ, murder the babies of their women priests etc etc
Thrivent gives money to Lutheran World Relief, an LCMS and ELCA joint venture which gives millions to the United Nations to kill men, women and children around the world - on your dollars.
There certainly isn't any doctrinal issue that would keep Thrivent from giving and taking money from anyone.
And apparently there isn't any abhorrent practice or doctrine which would keep the WELS, ELS or LCMS from giving and taking money from Thrivent.
The WELS, ELS and LCMS financing of abortion and murder through Thrivent has certainly contributed to the downsizing of families worldwide.
These funds were used to purchase milk for low income families in Western Wisconsin-

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.

Well that's their first statement....and first mistake....right from the get-go.
The Old and New Testaments are THE WORD, THE LIVING WORD, THE WORD OF GOD....
