You are probably wondering why The CORE is featuring Christmas at the Movies.
Perhaps it is because Joe Case is featuring Christmas at the Movies. Joe Case wrote: "Part one of our series, “Christmas at the Movies”. This time we feature a message inspired by the new Christmas classic, “Elf”. Joe Case video tapes people being immersed in a glass tank. He bills his church as a Dangerous Church and has a sermon posted on The Real F Word.
For some reason, The CORE also featured "Elf." I did not get to watch "Elf." The star of that film is known for featuring gross and disgusting bits as comedy.
I heard the Appleton clergy were getting uneasy about The CORE. Doubtless in another decade they will say, "About that movie series..." Katie will be DP by then, so she will smack them down hard.

It absolutely sickens me that nobody at the WELS headquarters seems to be doing anything about the shenanigans going on in Appleton. Don't they know and don't care OR do they know and don't care? Which is it? This is why I cannot in good conscience support my local WELS church knowing that some of my offerings could be going to support this type of nonsense. As soon as I see anybody at the Love Shack speaking out against and doing something to stop this kind of thing, I'll keep my money for other more worthy causes. It is so sad and sickening at the same time. CORE --- GET OUT OF MY SYNOD AND TAKE SKI WITH YOU!!!
She is obviously thrilled to be with The CORE's
on his Facebook home page.
Appleton is a happenin' place.

GJ - The CORE is now being advertised as the "downtown campus of St. Peter, Freedom." At first, St. Peter was holding the Popcorn Cathedral of Rock at arm's length. Now they seem to be the same congregation. They are calling a new pastor, without resolving the questions about the previous pastor leaving after only seven months.

Ski's first week in Milwaukee, when I was at Ski's house as his guest (my wife and I had been invited over for dinner)
I was subjected to Sponge Bob/Square pants on TV as we attempted to chat.
I'm thinking, this guy supposedly is a pastor with an MDIV...and we're watching sponge bob. (smackin my brain like duhhhhh...shakin my head like whoaaa)
Then his wife called down stairs to tell us that dinner was ready.(He yelled up to her that we were going to finish the Sponge Bob episode. (Twenty minutes later we went to eat.) I was pretty uncomfortable by this point because in my culture, Dinner and community, especially when guests are over, take priority over even the most riveting TV. (And Sponge Bob is not even an intelligent cartoon like Loony Tunes...) I was sooo out of my element. What the heck is going on here??

[GJ - There is more, but I chose to omit it. There is something about the football culture in WELS that defies common sense.]

What's with WELS pastors posing with scantily clad Hollywood vixens?
They're partying like Rome with Leonard Sweet in a wooden horse.

Hey Brett, thanks for the lovely vote of confidence...especially since you haven't been there.
Are there "crazies" at MLC that loved those dolts at Evangelism day? Sure, just like the rest of the synod.
But, I promise you, there are more on the other side of the aisle who complain about Evangelism Day and aren't making any movies on the side.
Judging an entire campus by some spurious connection like Evangelism Day speakers or by a video made by 1% of the student body is pretty far fetched.

GJ - We can judge a self-described orthodox Lutheran group by the way false teachers are elevated, promoted, defended, and protected. After all, Paul Calvin Kelm's false doctrine has been widely known for a long time, yet he was still the elderly keynote speaker for Evangelism Day at the only WELS synodical college. And he did the same for Mission Day at the Sausage Factory.
Mike, I respect your posts, but people do judge a campus when the collegians get together to defend Party in the MLC by attacking anyone offended by it. WLC got involved on, on behalf of the video.
Sigfried and Roy are both German! I could tell by their accents.
They're what?

Ski's antics have Emergent Church written all over them.
"Christmas movies can be more than just cheap entertainment, they can have deep spiritual meanings that can make a real impact on our lives, especially at a time of year that is all about the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."

Christmas at the Movies: Week 3
The movie “Christmas Vacation” shows us how dysfunctional our lives can be. In this message, Lead Minister Scott Pugh shows us how “dysfunction” is the reason for season.

After reading Brett Meyer's comment above, that to me is even more reason why the 'powers that be' in Milwaukee need to get involved. If they don't put a stop to this soon, or at least begin to speak out against this type of thing, the WELS is finished in my book. Maybe I'm just finished with the WELS. I want to see some real action starting with SP Schroeder. The rest of us can get behind and support a guy who speaks up and takes a stand against this. Time to start cleaning house, Pastor Schroeder. Or to quote a country song, "A little less talk and alot more action."
Just a note for those who may be interested. "Elf" is not really very gross. Certainly not like "Anchorman." I don't remember how much "toilet humor" was in Elf, but it was no where close to what a typical Ferrell movie/show would employ.
And yes, the WELS should look into this matter. This is a bit outrageous. (Actually Ski could lead a good Bible study out of it, but "Christmas Vacation" should be a Bible study just for adults.)
What's with WELS pastors posing with scantily clad Hollywood vixens?
They're partying like Rome with Leonard Sweet in a wooden horse.
Gee professor
You think that might've been a little grisly for your readers...
I understand.
"There is something about the football culture in WELS that defies common sense."
That would be Green Bay Packers football. I believe that it may have to do with the cult-like following of the Packers in Wisconsin and the neanderthal nature of the sport.
DK has been to Ski's house! "Well isn't that special." I feel the pain of these other WELS' members. Ski needs to get! If my pastor started wearing T-shirts like Glende's, we would would have him committed. Speaking of things that you have to keep off the blog, I am still looking into that "business" for you Pastor GJ. I will be attending a shindig tonight. Should be interesting being that Lutherans are not exactly tea-totelers.
In Christ,
from WELS church lady
No wonder your churches and country are such a mess. You follow the most childish, naive leaders you can find, and are afraid to look elsewhere.

That explains a lot. I could never understand why WELS pastors often seemed so patronizing and yet simple-minded. They have not grown up. They are immature.
This in turn explains why they also lack common courtesy and any sophistication.
You are all overreacting. These pastors get divine inspiration while posing with beautiful, young women.
Sorry, the inspiration is cut off in the pictures.
Where do those pictures of Pastors Ski and Glende come from?
I believe Mariqueen Maandig is married to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. So it's not like she's hitting on him. Still, Google her and you find plenty of pictures of her in various states of undress, and even naked. I can't say that having her pose for a picture with him would be wrong. But why would he want such a picture? Moreover, if he meets a celebrity and she agrees to pose, why would it be one that feigns intimacy? And perhaps most perplexing, why would he then make it public? It shows a lack of judgment so profound that that, in itself, would seem to disqualify him from ministry. It's disrespectful to Mrs. Ski. And it raises the question of what a pastor does to strive to be "beyond reproach."
I bet MLC will top the CORE. Any takers? There are more crazies at MLC.
Hey church lady
I did lead abatement on the house he wanted to buy, to make the purchase process smoother. He was moving from Florida and I was a young theologically liberal house painter at the time. He invited us over for dinner as a thanks for making his house a priority in my work schedule.
I feel bad for playing even a little part in helping Ski get to Wisconsin--But you know what?
Seeing Ski and Jeske close up and personal drove me to the Book of Concord. Ski's foibles (my description of which Jackson won't print) were the direct reason I repented of the mystic intellectual Enthusiasm that I was guilty of.
Through guidance from certain 1500s theologians I was led to believe and understand the Means of Grace.
I would say that's very special!
Such Western decadence. You only have one repentant soul, DK.
"I bet MLC will top the CORE. Any takers? There are more crazies at MLC."
Such as?
Anonymous at 2:18, as much as I've provided some of the research for the perversion at MLC I would still say that the majority of those kids are not currently Emergent Church apostates. I think they are just young kids who at this point in their life and education should have an honest, Confessional faculty with integrity to give them guidance, direction and oversight. All of which are lacking and it shows in the attitudes, decisions and opinions these kids display.
Just look at the list of money mulching Shrinkers teaching the MLC students at this years Evangelism Day: Ski, Kelm, Valleskey, Olson, Becker, Huebner, Tyson http://www.mlc-wels.edu/home/administration/pastor/evangelismday/evanday2009sched/
All this while mom and dad sit at home blissfully happy that their children are being cared for by Mother WELS when it's really a scene from Oliver Twist.
Without intervention the false teachers will have their way with most of these kids and the WELS' schools and churches will be overflowing with Ski's and Glende's.

Brett,
The $64,000 question is how many churches were led to ruin by Valleskey.
Michael, here's your chance to show everyone why their confidence should still reside firmly in the WELS.
Name one organized group within the WELS which is constantly promoting a Lutheran Confession Movement. A group which organizes trips to their Confessional training seminars and deals with opposition by using Scripture, a quia subscription to the Lutheran Confessions and is not ashamed to quote Martin Luther.
How about naming one courageous WELS pastor who is publicly exposing and condemning the false teachings of Church Growthism in the WELS and ELS for the benefit of the laity and clergy.
How about linking one public statement from the current WELS COP that exposes the Baptist doctrines and practices being incorporated into WELS through the likes of Ski and company.
How about naming one existing WELS Pastor who has been willing to risk his reputation and position in order to stand for Christ's doctrine of Justification by Faith alone against the false gospel of UOJ.
How about naming one WELS member who is able to say the Church of the Antichrist is not Christian.
How about naming two band members of the WELS rock band Koine.
The problem is, again...you're (moreso Brett) judging the ENTIRE group with some of the things you're saying.
1000+ students went through MLC during the time I was there. Of those, I would maybe say a handful of people I knew could have been characterized as CGMites.
Perhaps we just all found each other but most of my friends found Kelm, Ski, etc. just has reprehensible as you guys do.
As for Evangelism Day, most students had no say in the speakers present.
Michael,
I think Brett threw down the glove too well. Try answering a single question from his list.
If the vast hordes of Confessional Lutherans exist like you claim, where are they now? Ya.. uumhmm...
Brett makes a strong case. The Best WELS pastors I know talk a BIIIGGGG talk when they are surrounded by people who they know agree with them. But they clam up quickly when in 'synod' circles.
Why, you ask? WELS pastors go with the flow because if they don't they will serving coffee at IHOP for the next 20 years.
You think I'm being a cynical punk? Just what exactly will a 45 or 50 year-old WELS pastor do if he loses his job?
Michael Schottey I would actually be delighted if you can name anyone from any but the last group. I can't think of anyone but maybe you know of some faithful soul. Please post.
