GJ - Doubtless the Wally Oelhafen Fan Club--gathered in a booth at the last Burger King still open in Flint--is mourning the loss of their star Shrinker.
Wally shared the chairman's duties with Fred Adrian for a period of time. They both thought their job was to promote Fuller Seminary's agenda and to denigrate Lutheran doctrine and practice. Given that directive from The Love Shack's Home Mission board, they were superb. Norm Berg, Fuller alumnus, directed the WELS Mission Board, followed by another CGM fanatic, Harry Hagedorn.
Wally was a fluent speaker and preacher because he always had the same theme - The Greatness of Wally Oelhafen. I mentioned that to one WELS layman, who said, "He supplied at our church and the whole sermon was about Wally."
Wally was ecstatic that Robert Schumann took the call to St. Paul in German Village. Wally carried on like a school girl, so now his dream-come-true, Robert Schumann, is an ardent atheist. Schumann was yet another Shrinker influencing the mushy brains of Tim Glende, future partner in crime with Ski. We can reverse engineer the problem and find the causes - apostasy and utter neglect of discipline.
Adrian managed to have his vicar go to state prison. Adrian left the ministry for a time, but the stalwart Michigan District welcomed back their Prodigal with another call. Michigan's progressive spirit motivates them to reward the guilty and punish the innocent.
When Michigan Lutheran Seminary closes and the last WEF in the district is turned into a vet's office, thousands will salute the CG warriors for all they have accomplished: Wally, Fred, DP Robert Mueller, DP John Seifert, VP Paul Kuske, and the timid, eager to please ministerium.
No one has done less with more.
PS - The next time you WELSians cluck your tongues about the Church of Rome, remember that you have had numerous chances to clean up your own act. Your response has been to bury the truth in an avalanche of mud-slinging. Floyd can offer tips on this. Anyone who questions the legitimacy of his work is "jealous." Antinominians are not guided by the Sixth Commandment or anything else.
