Even More Questions about The SORE

Shrinkers are so cute...
when they are babies.

The SORE continues to raise more questions about its questionable mission.

How can they share the same old WELS church building with another emergent, Rock R Roll church?

Christ the Rock will have services at 10 AM, and The SORE will entertain the teens at 5:30 PM.

Will Ski hang his floozy photos in the hallway, or would that offend the other Rock N Roll church?

Will the popcorn machine and soda fountain move to the old WELS church?

"OuterEdge opens its doors for a four-hour looksy

What: OuterEdge Stage open house
When: Today (Wednesday, June 16) 3 p.m.–7 p.m.
Where: 303 N. Oneida Street, downtown Appleton

Appleton’s newest entertainment venue, OuterEdge Stage, opens it doors to the public today for a four-hour open house; the showing will consist of light shows (from approximately a half-million dollar lighting rig) and tours of the building every 30 minutes. CEOs and married couple Ben and Lyssa King resurrected the church-turned-concert venue, with the goal of drawing musicians who haven’t been performing in the Appleton area.  The Kings’ plan is to book national acts weekly with favorite local acts sprinkled in for good measure.

As for the open house, spectators will be able to envision the Kings’ elaborate plans once they witness the restoration and renovations made to the one-time church. "

In this photo, taken approximately one month ago,
OuterEdge was just beginning to install their lighting
rig. Today’s open house should reveal a much different
look.

“We really wanted to maintain the history and beauty of the original building,” said Lyssa King, “yet we have modernized the proscenium with a state-of- the-art High End System lighting rig, creating an old world meets new technology feel…This is a great opportunity for people to come and get a firsthand look at what the Stage has to offer.”

Reader question: There is a building permit on the door of the old Mount Olive church at the corner of Oneida and Franklin, behind the library. I see some activity. Maybe a new wedding chapel?
Answer: The building at 303 N. Oneida St., Appleton, is coming back to life as the OuterEdge Stage in late May.

It can be used for weddings, recitals and even debates, but its primary use will be for live faith-based concerts, including contemporary Christian groups, country singers and national acts.

Benjamin and Lyssa King are owners of OuterEdge, which focuses on film production for faith-based musicians' videos. They’ve also worked in the commodities business.

“We want to promote independent faith-based artists. We’ve talked to people in Nashville and they said ‘You’re doing this in Appleton, Wisconsin?’” said Benjamin King. “There’s nothing like this in Nashville.”

“We’re both pastors’ kids, so we always wanted to do something faith-based,” said Lyssa King.

The couple bought the building and are currently renovating it to restore the building's rich original details.

“We tried to preserve everything we could,” said Benjamin.

They replastered and repaired the dentil molding, acanthus leaf details and coffered medallion ceiling. Original sconces and chandeliers are being restored and re-hung.

They’ll also boost the building's technical capabilities for filming and doing high-definition live streaming on their Web site, www.outeredge.com. All told, they’ll spend more than $1 million.
Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1921, just two years after Lawrence’s Memorial Chapel. The two spaces have a similar feel with their grand stained glass windows.

Mount Olive moved to Appleton’s north side in 1970. This building later housed Christ the Rock Community Church, a theater and the Hmong Alliance Church.

GJ - Tim Glende has been so harsh and unloving about unionism on his cheap, imitation blog. Everyone knows what a farce that is, to practice unionism with every sect in the land while denouncing it.

But this is another step into the land of farce. Jointly operating a building with another emergent church will be a special witness to everyone in town. The old WELS church will need two signs on it, two entertainment schedules, and two sets of Rock N Roll instruments.

Poor old Doug Englebrecht will have even more to explain to everyone.

In for a nickel, out for a dime.

I counted three offices being worked on in the old WELS church. Do they have another one downtown in that luxury office building? Half their membership seems to be on the staff.

"I find it very interesting that The CORE will have their offices on the SIXTH FLOOR of a 12 story building in Downtown Appleton.  http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-172139280652780403#"

Church and Changers need a lot of staff to do the work while the Mequon graduates plans on how much they will grow. More growtivational pep talks will be needed in Appleton.

Remember, readers - this pustule came from Mark Jeske, who stands astride two synods at once:

The SWD and Rev. Jeske - Pastor Reeder

For the past several years in the South Wisconsin District (SWD) of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), I’ve noticed a growing number of conferences and retreats where Rev. Mark Jeske of Time of Grace ministries located in Milwaukee (which airs on the net (http://www.timeofgrace.org/index.php), on the radio, and on TV) is one of the speakers.  The SWD endorses him, as his ‘ministry’ is also now a Recognized Service Organization (RSO) of the LCMS
(http://www.lcms.org/pages/internal.asp?NavID=15614).  The program even airs on the LCMS’ radio station from St. Louis, KFUO.

What’s interesting, as others have noted (i.e. http://steadfastlutherans.org/?p=6919), is that Jeske is:
1)      of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS)
2)      not an LCMS pastor
3)      Promotes the unscriptural ‘principles’ and doctrine of the ‘church growth movement’ (CGM) (For further study on these, see http://www.ctsfw.net/media/pdfs/huebelcgm.pdf as a starter)
LCMS and WELS are not in fellowship.  Joint ministries here are in the least confusing to members and nonmembers of both church bodies.  Joint ministries here are also conflicting, esp. because the Church Growth Movement so advocated by Jeske is in conflict with our doctrine, and also the official teaching of WELS.

A genuine concern for doctrine asks the question ‘why’?  Since CGM teaches what is contrary to Scripture, why is such teaching given air on the LCMS station KFUO, advocated by at least one district (the SWD), and even now an RSO of the LCMS?

Perhaps the LCMS as a whole has forgotten the concern of God’s people, that of faithfulness to His Word, rather than seeking after acceptance by the world and its ways.  Faithfulness calls for obedience to the Lord’s Word and avoidance of those who teach otherwise:

Note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple (Romans 16:17-18)
May the Lord keep the LCMS and her members watchful, observant, and bold in the face of false doctrine and opposition, even with those within her own body!
