Not So Puzzling:
Appleton the CORE of Doctrinal Confusion

An active WELS member thought up this new epithet!

  1. Appleton is where Church and Change began, thanks to Parlow and Witte.
  2. Ron Ash, chairman of Church and Change, has been there forever.
  3. Appleton is the home office of AAL, now Thrivent, a "Lutheran" insurance company that gathers millions of dollars to give to Habitat for Humanity ($120 million), ELCA, and the Salvation Army. Thriven is more unionistic than the National Council of Churches.
  4. Paul Copycat Kelm was there - not for long - but his hoofprints are still visible.
  5. Mark N. Avoid Jeske sent his minions, Ski and Bishop Katie there, to gather the elect from local WELS congregations and turn them into Groeschel-lites.
  6. Deputy Doug Englebrecht is so far into Church and Changism that he can see the soles of Valleskey's feet.

A friend of mine is a recovering Roman Catholic. On an unrelated topic, the city of Appleton came into the discussion. Seizing the moment, I quipped, "oh, Appleton, the armpit of the Wisconsin Synod."
I then explained how so many of the real and relevant WELS pastors go through that area.
His response was, "being relevant did not work for the Roman Catholic church back in the 1960's, so why should it work for anyone now?". What does a fallen away Roman Catholic understand that so many others do not?
