The Walton Family Foundation announced Friday that it gave more than $1.2 billion to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in 2010, or about $400 million more than what the museum's executive director announced earlier this year.

Don Bacigalupi said at a news conference in May that the museum had received a trio of endowment gifts from the foundation totaling $800 million to support operations, art acquisitions and future capital costs.

On Friday, the foundation said it also gave the museum $403 million for artwork, general operating expenses and construction. The museum — founded in 2005 by Alice L. Walton, who sits on the foundation started by her father, the late-Wal-Mart Stores Inc. founder Sam M. Walton — is scheduled to open Nov. 11."
