Pooches take the pulpit - USATODAY.com: "Father Roy Snipes has more assistance than most priests in Masses, counseling sessions and confessions: his dogs. The big mixed-breeds — sometimes as many as five of them — provide the extra dollop of warmth and joviality that can open hearts wider to receive the good father's message."

Thanks for this, Dr Jackson!
Not being funny (or awkward), but is this a case of dogs before doctrine? And naming a dog Carny (?!) then bringing it into church?
This reads like pomo pietism to me: Catholic and Methodist clergy both espousing faith + works + the 'awww' factor (essential sentimentality). Ugh.
An English journalist -- Matthew Parris -- wrote 14 years ago in The Spectator, 'A sentimental people is a cruel people'. I'm not accusing, although I have often pondered this pithy sentence over the years and have come to see its truth.
Our Lord Jesus Christ didn't need props or animals. He rarely showed His emotions. May we follow His example.

Anything but the Word is the key today. My home church in Moline featured a blessing of the animals for the Sunday service (ELCA) when we were there for the high school reunion.
When I was confirmed we only had Biblical sermons and liturgical services. A large choir sang and a pipe organ played real hymns.
I left the Disciples of Christ because they always had gimmicks and cute things going on, like the minister arriving in a fire truck with his chaplain's hat and fireman's uniform on. Whadda guy.
