Mohawk minister: Local pastor shaves, dyes hair for youth group fundraiser | MLive.com:
SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI — When several parishioners at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 2525 Hemmeter Road walked around a corner and caught a glimpse of Pastor Jeff Bonn, they stopped abruptly.
“Oh my goodness!” said one woman, staring with wide eyes at the pastor.
Pastor Bonn was sporting a drastically new hairstyle Sunday morning: a rainbow mohawk divided into six spikes protruding nearly a foot from his head.
The new ‘do was part of a fundraiser for a youth group trip. Five high school students from the church will travel to New Orleans this week for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Youth Gathering with about 20 other youth from Zion Lutheran Church in Freeland. As a final fundraiser for the trip, Pastor Bonn suggested that the youth group select several crazy hairstyles and have the congregation vote with donations to the one they would most like to see Pastor Bonn sporting.
“The other choices were purple dreadlock or a tonsure, which is that monk hairstyle with the top shaved,” Bonn said.
The voting raised $207 for the trip, and Bonn went to a hairdresser on Friday to get some professional help transforming his look.
