Latest Notes on Internet Service
Friday was our first day in a long time when our download speed was 180 megs most of the time, with only a temporary, slight decrease during the day.
Before, it was dipping to 5 megs and even 1/2 meg, after being so nice to the repairman and bouncing up to 180 megs for him. This is an improved speed with a new modem. We have had four technician visits.
The supervisor is coming by today to check it again. Cox Cable talked about examining the tap on the main line, but they have not done so. Possibilities include a bad connection and bandwidth theft. The theft can be done with hacking the software - spoofing the MAC address - or physically splitting the signal.
I will do some additional checking today. We sometimes start with garbled music. One solution is for the listener to click on the name of the hymn from the blog link - that links the organ playing the entire hymn. That worked well for one person who tried this. I want to get the service started with good music, which often means stopping the broadcast, changing the plug into the computer, and starting again. That became a problem recently, when Ustream would not load again until I re-started the host computer. This may seem boring, but it is not boring to have things go haywire just before the service.
