The Lutheran Librarian, Alec Satin, Unleashes the Bente Historical Introductions to the Book of Concord

F. Bente wrote The Historical Introductions to the Book of Concord, which was the first part of the old Concordia Triglotta, the Book of Concord in German, Latin, and English.

This work and many more can be found on the Lutheran Librarian's Amazon page.

Many simply call this book "Bente" or "The Introductions." Bente gives the reader a detailed explanation of the Book of Concord's origins, the main authors and editors, the conflicts that made this confession of faith a necessary blessing for all Biblical Christians.

I found the Crypto-Calvinist section the most interesting. Everyone should see how the Calvinists (in secret) among the Lutherans detracted from Luther however they could. They got the Lutheran head of state to persecute Lutherans with charges of false doctrine. Somebody slipped and gave away the scheme, so the Lutherans triumphed and the Calvinists went to the slammer.

Now that is being repeated in the Lutheran synods and few care. "Where are my Thrivent grants and trinkets?"

The print version of The Historical Introductions to the Book of Concord can be ordered here.
