NEW LCMS Book “Faith Misused” a Misuse of the Bible
by Jack Cascione reclaimnews@earthlink.net

“Faith Misused,” another book in a series by Concordia Publishing House, designed to wean laypeople off the plenary inspiration, infallibility, and inerrancy of the Bible.

“Faith Misused: Why Christianity Is Not Just Another religion,” by Rev. Dr. Alvin J. Schmidt, (published by CPH, St. Louis, 2022, 150 pages), has a forward by LCMS President, Matthew Harrison, and is endorsed, among others, by Concordia Seminary Exegetical Professor, Kevin S. Golden and Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary St. Catharines’ President, Paul Winger. Harrison’s endorsement is another reason he should not be re-elected as LCMS President.

Anyone who would like to see the review of this book, please email reclaimnews@earthlink.net

In the book Dr. Alvie Schmidt claims -“Faith (Pistis) Became a Religious Principle and Exclusively Christian”

He sees no connection between Christian faith in the New Testament and Abraham. He offers no understanding of the inspiration, inerrancy, or infallibility of the text. He claims that faith is based on human senses. He claims that anyone who says faith is not based on the five senses is antibiblical. Welcome to CPH.

I read Pr. Cascione's review twice. I believe he has hit on something very important. It seems that apologetics has assumed a role in theology that it ought not have. God speaks to us through his Word. Faith is totally dependent upon God's Word. Evidence available to the senses does not and cannot elicit faith. Apologetics as a disciple serves an essentially negative role. It does not and cannot prove the Christian faith. But it can refute the various false teachings and teachers who attack the faith. Proving the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead does not elicit faith. The Word elicits faith. Rev. Cascione has done us a service by his review of Al Schmidt's book.

GJ - Casione and the Preus gang have wasted their lives regurgitating the Objective Justification of Missouri's founder, the syphilitic Bishop Martin Stephan.

CFW Walther was merely Stephan's flunky until he had the chance to tell everyone what the leadership knew - Stephan was not only a serial adulterer with young women but also a carrier of
syphillis. The ship manifest showed that the oldest son went along and so did the favorite mistress of the man raised to the episcopacy by Walther and the gang.

Walther's lying exposure of Stephan allowed the great CFW to stage a riot, threaten the bishop's life, steal all his gold, and force him at gunpoint across the Mississippi. Those are multiple felonies added to Walther's earlier kidnapping of his niece and nephew from his father's parsonage.

I hate to tell the Missourians and WELSians (ELS and CLC too) this - Objective Justification is a cult dogma only taught and believed in the Midwest. No Lutheran church body teaches it, except ELCA by way of their rationalism and universalism - also derived from Calvinism. The European Lutherans see OJ as a Midwestern thing, and not Lutheran.

Cascione and One-Note Rolf Preus expose themselves by their staged outrage.

Were they bothered by the apostate Gospel of Mark commentary that came from their beloved Concordia Publishing House?

Do they object to the same text approach in the Beck Bible promoted by Otten, Inc?

The sudden confession of sin that supposedly schocked* and appalled the CFW circle never happened, and she never regretted her close relationship with the Saxon bishop.
*Queen Victoria was so German that she wrote in her diary about being "schocked."

Planting Weeds - Milkweed, Joe Pye Weed, and Butterfly Weed

Halcyon Hosta

Milkweed is the non-commercial weed of choice. to attract the Monarch butterfly. We have a great run of daffodils, then the roses bloom, and later the Joe Pye Weed blossoms with the clethra to make it a butterfly and hummingbird garden.

Yesterday, I asked Ranger Bob, "Seen any hummers?" He said "No, but I would get those feeders up, if I were you." Sassy and I were resting from digging in the weeds when the first hummer showed up. It did little circles where the first feeder hanger was, the then one hanging from the beam, then middle hanger. It repeated the pattern, as if to say, "Where is the food?" They are known for that, so I filled one feeder and put it on the first hanger.

I said, "Sassy, we will get more food for them tomorrow." I sang a song I composed for the occasion.

When I have troubles and cannot sleep,

I count our hummers instead of sheep.

And I fall asleep

Counting our blessings.

Sassy was moved, though she did not join me in howling. Later she crept closer on the bed and stuck her head into my hand for a thorough head and ears rub.

I have some hostas ready for planting in the morning, after soaking. Most will be some kind of blue hosta. I now have a semi-automatic rain barrel, so I used it today to soak the weed plants in rain water. All I have to do is lower the hose, open the valve, and fill the buckets or watering cans.

Some new roses needed canes watered today because of the winds, so that was easy, not hauling water from the backyard barrels (which are manual, dip and haul).

Is Joel Fuhrman Taking Moderation to an Extreme?

I was thinking about Fuhrman's nutrition advice when this question popped up, "Is he taking moderation to an extreme?"

Ours is a culture of extremes - panic attacks and extreme heights of organized, scripted exultation. He does not advocate the paleo-keto-water-protein fanaticism of the typical diet gurus. Whatever he suggests, he urges a balance and even gives permission to break from the strictest eating habits.

A post on FreeRepublic.com dealt with the benefits of zinc, not only for help against viruses, but also for blood pressure moderation and the function of kidneys as well.

I often post a list of benefits, with such vegetables as asparagus, peas, and...

The other emphasis is good and startling - the best sources for zinc, beyond making your sauerkraut in a garbage can (purely theoretical, of course).

Vegetables High in Zinc
  1. Chickpeas are on top, in other categories as well.
  2. Next - white, black, and kidney beans
  3. Chia seeds (but will they make my hair grow?)
  4. Pecans, brazil nuts, almonds
This can be done with many vegetables. Our inclination to get tired of one source is easily solved by grouping vegetables together or rotating the favorites.

Potassium Is Important for Energy:

  1. Beet tops - "Mom? No like."
  2. Avocados - They can be good but they rot fast.
  3. Lima beans - Delicious and satisfying.
  4. Spinach - often rated a super-food for other nutrients as well. Spinach can be eaten by the bowl, replacing the formerly Fritos salt-grease-starch part of the food plan.
  5. Squash is like dessert. Almost all pumpkin pie is made from squash, because squash is better at pumpkin-deliciousness than pumpkin is. We can avoid the scandal of empty pumpkin pie tins and whipped cream cannisters lying around by eating squash with a tiny bit of butter.
  6. Brussel sprouts! That is one way to kill a kid's appetite, but they are super in many ways, including potassium.  Look up the nutritional benefits of brussel sprouts and ignore Ichabod. Actually, I love brussel sprouts in vegetable stew because they offer a great crunch factor, like almonds and walnuts. They are shunned but delicious

  1. Nutrition

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s FoodData Central database, 1 cup of raw Brussels sprouts provides:

    • 37.8 calories
    • 0.264 g of fat
    • 7.88 g of carbohydrate
    • 2.97 g of protein

1 cup of cooked Brussels sprouts containsTrusted Source:

    • 56.2 calories
    • 0.78 g of fat
    • 11.08 g of carbohydrate
    • 3.98 g of protein

Consuming the same amount of Brussels sprouts will also provide the following nutrients, with percentages calculated from the Dietary Guidelines for AmericansTrusted Source:

NutrientPercentage of daily intake in adults
Vitamin C83.11% for males and 99.73% for females
Vitamin K-1130% for males and 173.33% for females
    Vitamin B-614.85%
    Folate13.43%
    Potassium7.28%

Brussel sprouts pack a nutritional punch. The Aggregate Nutritional Density Index (ANDI) measures how much nutrition a vegetable offers for its weight.

Brussel sprouts are 21st on this listTrusted Source, meaning they rank highly for nutritional density alongside many other cruciferous vegetables.

Broccoli, not on the McDonalds menu, is another less popular but highly rated vegetable.

My mother loved butter on everything, especially when it was something we turned up our noses to eat. She only lived to be 90, so what  did she know?

My parents grew up on organic farms (aka "farms") in those days. They were raised on vegetables and crops fertilized with manure. Meat was expensive; vegetables were cheap and easy to raise. My father often bewailed the lack of flavor in modern, factory raised chickens. If we dared to mention the lack of appeal in vegetables beyond corn, peas, and mashed potatoes, Dad had a simple statement.
"You know what's wrong with you kids?"
"No, Dad, what?"
"You are spoiled, SPOILED ROTTEN!"
And he was right.
