Bret Meyer: "Photo from Tim Feltneeds website post. The old joke about the little man in the big truck trying to compensate may be applicable to the emergent church and their video screens."
Reformation Relevance
Today at Victory we had a great service. We have been going through a series called Victory Core Values. The core value we covered today was Reformation Relevance. I just think this sermon hit our mission on the head. If anyone wanted to know what being in a mission to the unchurched is about they should listen to this sermon. If anyone wondered what having a contemporary Lutheran mission means...this covers it. If any Ichabodians or BW officianado's (sic) want to actually hear what its about..they should listen.

GJ - It's not a Church and Chicanery post unless there is a big, honking error in it.
The dictionary is your friend. There are even some online versions. Or compose in Word, then copy and paste. I am sure they offer copy and paste seminars at the Church and Chicanery conferences.

My Screen Is Bigger Than Yours - Or Is It?

Oh, you poor, deluded schmucks who believe religions consist simply of God-given truth. Now you see it is about spin, opinion, ability to influence and what many people want you to believe is true.
WELS has no corner on the truth although for generations it convinced members that it did. If you want the truth, study the Bible and test all things. Stop being gullible.
Unfortunately for the adiaphoridiots (adiaphorons?), it's not the size of the screen, it's how they use it.
Even the WELS publishes guidelines on church layout to emphasize where the focus should be:
pulpit (the Word)
baptismal font (the Spirit)
Altar (Holy Communion)
If you walked into this "Lutherelational' church, what does it appear that this congregation holds dear? What do they want the unchurched sinner to grab onto?
-big screen
-big band (at the front)
-big sound effects
-cup holders
(Feel like a sports bar yet?)
+font in the corner
+zombie dance preacher behind the podium lifted from the Hilton
+altar (good job on making sure there's a cross somewhere up front)
Big screens / powerpoints / loud bands are a crutch for uncertain pastors trying to improve their performance skills instead of trusting in the Means of Grace.

Place your bets folks. How many Christians can the growing insanity in WELS drive away from God? 10%, 30%, 50%, or more? Stay tuned to Ichabod, your reality website, for the emerging details.
That worship setup is definitely not aesthetically pleasing.
How can one denomination host so many idiots in its leadership? The damage being done certainly warrants getting to the root cause and taking corrective action.
Perhaps you're looking at this the wrong way. Think function over form...or in this case, reaching out with the true gospel to everyone over traditional aesthetics.
My elderly mother-in-law loves the large screen. She can no longer read the small print of a hymnal or Bible, but can easily see the screen no matter where she sits.
Jesus delivered his sermons on a mount and along shorelines. Nowhere in the Bible does he define the exact setting in which to preach his gospel.
That is the WELS' education system such as it is.
