We stopped at Saddleback Church in August and
listened to the Porpoise-Driven Prophet speak.
Evangelical pastor Rick Warren speaks at the Islamic Society of North America 46th annual convention in Washington, Saturday July 4, 2009. (AP Photo/Luis Magana)In an urgent letter posted on the Saddleback Church Web site on Wednesday, Warren says expenses are up because parishioners are out of work and "the bottom dropped out" when year-end donations dropped dramatically.
He asks parishioners to donate before the new year to keep the Orange County church out of debt, The Orange County Register reports.
A spokeswoman for Warren said the church does not release financial details, so it's difficult to put the $900,000 shortfall in context.
Warren delivered the invocation at the inauguration of President Barack Obama and is the author of numerous books, including the best-selling "The Purpose Driven Life."

"Warren says expenses are up because parishioners are out of work ...."
Does Warren provide assistance to the unemployed? If not, this statement is as stupid as his theology and doctrine.
Between five to ten years ago, this circus tent huckster and his pyro marketed books were the greatest things since pre-sliced bread. Since then, he has moved on to bigger and better things, like playing kissy face with the United Nations and Islam. Why does he even need Saddlestench Church. He should just be a wandering minstrel like Ed Stetzer, Leonard Sweet, et all.
Rev. Jackson,
I just finished reading all your posts for the week and just thank God for you and your work on this blog exposing these WELS pastors who are NOT Lutheran! I am especially sad about the pastor who left St. Peter. I can feel his pain. Pres. Schroeder where are you?? The DP is obviously useless.

It seems Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch reads Ichabod! This was posted a half dozen hours after Ichabod posted it, looking at the timestamps:
Dhimmi megachurch pastor Rick Warren hurting for money
http://www.jihadwatch.org/2009/12/dhimmi-megachurch-pastor-rick-warren-hurting-for-money.html
excerpt: "Say, Rick, if you're that hard up, why don't you ask your pals the Saudis for some cash?"
Warren's going to have a much harder time next year, too, because not only is the recession going to continue unabated (according to the experts, not political spin doctors), but Obama is lowering how much can be written off taxes for charitable donations. That will affect big donors that Warren has, not your average donor most churches have.
Also, here's something Ichabod might want to put in a main post: the synods will probably come abegging in 2010 when their big donors don't give as much as expected, or as much as they pledged. See:

How deep is a baptismal pool?
Or here's an idea... Didn't he make millions just from his books alone? Why doesn't HE contribute the money needed to run his so-called church? Or is it a bad investment?
