Nice approach. When you get time, please review 1985 - 1995 classes for more shrinkers.
"unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me."
I enjoyed "Liberalism: Its Cause and Cure." You list at least a couple Becker books in the back. I don't have it front of me right now, but I believe "The Foolishness of God" and "Wizards That Peep" were listed. Have your thoughts on these books changed seeing as you count Becker a shrinker?
I just looked. Both books by Sig Becker mentioned by you are indeed listed at the back of Jackson's 'Liberalism, Its Cause & Cure'.
While I cannot answer for Pastor Jackson, concerning your explicit question - I guess he'd probably say those particular books are still OK (am not sure of that, as I've read neither of them, and possibly Pastor J would himself want to read them through again before commenting); afterall, 'Liberalism, Its Cause & Cure' was written almost 20 years ago....but I will offer this:
I've known "once brilliantly sound confessional conservative" theologians and pastors sadly become the very greatest and most knowingly deceitful destroyers of the faith in their teaching, whilst hiding behind their early former conservatism..
Likewise, I've also known some who held and espoused liberal and unLutheran theology (through their seminary training!),but who later shaped up as truly conservative confessional Lutherans as the effective power of God's Word did its work in them, and so did they become wise unto salvation; brave confessors of The Word and true doctrine.
All of us, as time goes by, are either growing up into the faith, from one degree to another, or similarly, receding from it, by degrees...
II THESSALONIANS 2: 3 LET NO MAN DECEIVE YOU BY ANY MEANS; FOR THAT DAY SHALL NOT COME, EXCEPT THERE COME A FALLING AWAY FIRST...
(Do we forget the great apostasy which Scripture teaches!)
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
We are to trust not in princes...but fear and love God above all things.
