Scott E. Jungen has left a new comment on your post "God's Will Is To Use His Word, The Double-Edged Sw...":
As many of you might know, I am fairly new to this blog. It has helped me "connect the dots" about the WELS' problems. The greatest help for me has been in pointing to places I can look for myself. "Church and Change", go to their website, read and decide for yourself. "Core", go to their website, read and decide for yourself.
WELS folks, I believe Dr.Jackson has "hit the nail on the head" with one sentence. "Luther's approach was to apply the Word and let God do the work". If we are honest with ourselves, has the WELS done this? My answer is "no". Just look over the last thirty years at all the strategies, programs, studies and on and on. What do we have to show for it? A smaller Synod with a huge financial problem. My key word is "we". I believe it's time in the WELS to get back to quietly and without "personal fanfare" preaching God's Word faithfully and let God do the work. Pastor Jeske, are you listening?

Thank you for your eloquent comments Scott! The words "huge financial problem" are correct. I was reading the minutes of the SCD January Pastor/Teachers Conference.
Focus On Finances(Cornerstone Ministries) people were in attendance. If these guys are being invited(or requesting an invite) to every conference in the synod, then the next step is to schedule a parish meeting. From that point, a representative gets invited to someone's home.
On a happier note, SP Schroeder spoke at the conference. He said something about Jesus being our cornerstone. There were also other confessional pastors present, and "May God bless our faithful pastors." As a teacher, perhaps Scott could shed some light on how much of a "say" do teachers really get at these pastor/teacher conferences?

Clarification of previous comment:
Schroeder did not use the word cornerstone. He used the word keystone:
"Our continuing focus on the foot of the Cross, with the centrality and efficiacy of the means of grace as the keystone of our ministries"
That was a verbatum line from the minutes. Feel free to read the entire minutes on-line.

Yeah Scotty. Welcome aboard.
Scott - I guess you stayed sober playing the Jeske beer drinking game, too! It's too bad - I hate warm, flat beer, too!

Scott is new here. I'm glad to see him, but I have known soooo many who were trying to figure out what in the world has been going on in WELS. They seemed to be fighters. Many of them who were very frustrated and wary of all the CGM stuff, to my suprize and amazement, have simply given up and climbed on board the runaway train of CC. Some are even in churches like the CORE. I wonder what happened to their discerment and their fight or if they just got tired and gave up or were seduced?
The spirit behind CC and CGM in WELS has got to be the most beguiling spirit since the garden of Eden.
