Bourman - Sloppy Paper, Sloppy Theology

When someone is too lazy to study the Word and the Confessions, Dunlap's Disease breaks out.
The belly done lap over the belt.

Here is the link.

Do not waste your time raging at me because I correct WELS materials in public. Be glad I do it for free. Normally I get paid and thanked.

My work benefits WELS. Look at the failed ex-SP, Gurgle. His first email about Patterson's New Age Church scheme had four (4) obvious errors in it. His second email had no obvious errors, except for being pure Schwaermer Dreck, if you catch my German.

Lazy thinking and writing will produce the kind of paper Bourman produced for the amusement of his fellow pastors. A trusting WELS member has suggested that the delay in linking and the gaps point toward late editing, after delivery.

Someone might like to list the obvious problems in a comment. Schmid in the text becomes Schmidt in the footnote. The footnote numbers seem to be picked out of a hat, making no sense at all. Buchholz is Buccholz in the footnote, reminding me of Shepherd of Peace becoming Shepherd of Peach in various mailings, once the first error was made.

The paper did not even make sense. Some inductive reasoning is needed. Terms--like Objective Justification, Subjective Justification, and Universal Objective Justification--are used today which are never found in the Confessions and the Scriptures. These terms did appear in a best-selling, influential book of doctrine written by a Halle Pietist, published in English in the 1830s and used throughout the century by all Protestant denominations. The book was also in print in German, and we know the Syn Conference Germans used their mother tongue, even in America.

Someone who ignores that history, available to anyone with a computer and the Net, is not honest about the facts.
