An example of a controlling church environment « Churchmouse Campanologist

Tim Glende, Ski, and Bishop Katie snuck off to Driscoll's training camp
on how to be an abusive, controlling pastor.
Read about Driscoll's Calvinism in the ChurchMouse post.

An example of a controlling church environment « Churchmouse Campanologist:

What follows is an illustration of a controlling pastor.

This video shows Mark Driscoll, lead pastor of Mars Hill Church (MHC) in Seattle, Washington, which could probably be best described as an Evangelical Calvinist church. Here Mr Driscoll apologises for his absence of humility in an artful way, with helpful notes from the video maker to show the degree of control and manipulation going on. In other words, what appears to be an act of humility and a request for forgiveness by the congregation is a disguised warning to the congregation to not pry too closely into church affairs:

Hilarious graphic -- gave me a chuckle!

Thank you for the mention -- much appreciated.

GJ - Thank you for providing a long article about him. The readers need to know how the fad leaders behave.

Mark Driscoll, the cussing pastor from a generic seminary, Western,
is sitting with Calvinist J. I. Packer.

Mark L. Strauss has defended gender-inclusive language in Bible translations like the TNIVNLT and NRSV, and is a member of the NIV Committee on Bible Translation.[8] Strauss argues that the ESV uses similar gender-inclusive language, and wrote, “What is odd and ironic is that some of the strongest attacks against the gender language of the TNIV are coming from those who produced similar gender changes in the ESV”.[9] Strauss has also suggested that criticism against competing Bible translations to the ESV is marketing contrived.[10]

Now I know where Doebler was coming from. In fact, he copied that sermon series from Driscoll verbatim. 'A Rebels Guide to Joy' or whatever it was and was big on the humility thing. He used much of the Driscoll tactic on folks at CTR...can you say passive aggressive?

The Changers in WELS all have their heroes who they emmulate. Doebler and Driscoll; Patterson and Swindol.

GJ - The amount of plagiarism in WELS is staggering. The Changers do it without shame and the fat, lazy, doctrinally inept DPs do nothing about it, except encourage more of the same. As long as the members pay for it - or as long as Thrivent and the foundations pay for it.
