Synod administrators and even some pastors in both the WELS and LCMS are ashamed of the Reformation. They create distance between themselves and Luther and the reformers. Scripture doesn't support what they want to teach (UOJ/Church Growth/Increase my salary!) so they change it and the Book of Concord is completely ignored, unless it is to bash a non-UOJ'er over the head.
