Mrs. I, "The congregation is giving offering money to their daycare to support non-member mothers working instead of raising their own children."

Absolutely spot on! Too bad it's a felt need as (W)ELS won't be able to resist providing for it.

On another note, I also have issues with using capital funds to tear down an existing facility (Luther Manor - that also has unused dorm rooms, if I remember correctly -- how long after this facility is gone will it be before they start asking for a new dorm building??) and then build a new facility when I recall that at district conventions, all 4 synod-run schools presented a 10-mile long laundry list of maintenance items that needed done on their campuses. Some of them were important things like boilers and roofs. Were these things taken care of first? If not, how about we be good stewards of the buildings that God has given us instead of dreaming about new ones. Heck, is the MLC chapel even finished yet? When I was last there, the basement was empty with 5 concrete walls. How about turning part of that space into a new daycare, err, sorry, Early Childhood Center?

Look at what hatched in our daycare center.

Ichabod -

Me thinks that the WELS Daycare craze is somewhat reactionary driven rather than a thoughtful response. As WELS congregations lose members through death, attrition and back-door losses, WELS congregations feel forced to replenish their supply of universal objective justification robots.
