Seminary Costs Compared - Missouri Leads With Most Expensive

Charts and research by Bruce Church.

Comparison:

I went to Augustana College (now about $45k) for $1,000 initial tuition per year, mostly covered by the Illinois State Scholarship. 1970 graduation. Seminary tuition was $150 per year, payable in two installments, with congregation gifts covering that cost - a small figure even then. 1972 graduation. The STM at Yale (1973 graduation) cost $2k for the year. Waterloo and YDS both had heavily subsidized married students housing, furnished apartments. Notre Dame (1975-1981) charged $3k in tuition, but that was free, plus money was given for a doctoral fellowship.

Boomers paid very little for higher education but they have let their church bodies charge inordinate amounts for a degree with no practical value. That matters, since the CG bureaucrats work so hard at keeping seminary graduates out of the ministry.
