Spaude Receives Call as Prep President.
MLS Turned Down More Often Than George McGovern

How far can the board go?

Spaude receives call as MLS president | Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS): "On Sept. 9, the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Governing Board called Rev. Timothy Spaude, pastor at St. Jacobi, Greenfield, Wis., to serve as president of Michigan Lutheran Seminary (MLS), Saginaw, Mich., one of two preparatory schools operated by the synod.

A 1994 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Spaude also has served at Cross of Christ, Universal City, Texas.

“This call is to a very important position at a very important part of our worker training system,” says Spaude. “I will be praying a lot, asking a lot of questions, and listening a lot. Oh, and did I say praying a lot?”

Spaude, who had three uncles who served as MLS professors, requests prayers for MLS, for St. Jacobi, and for himself—“that the Lord lead me to know where he wants me to serve him.”

Rev. Paul Zell, a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, returned the call as MLS president in August. The position has been vacant since Sept. 17, 2010, when Rev. Aaron Frey resigned the position. Dr. William Zeiger, vice president of MLS, is serving as president during the vacancy."

Today’s post continues with Dr Craig S Keener’s brief course in biblical hermeneutics, as taken from his 2005 guide, Biblical Interpretation, which he used when teaching Nigerian students.
Yesterday’s post covered a definition of hermeneutics and Chapter 1. Monday’s post introduced Keener’s perspective on reading the Bible. Everyone, including Sunday School teachers and theology students, will find this a fascinating guide.

GJ - UOJ thrives on out-of-context citations, which go back to the 1932 Brief Statement and even earlier. The Book of Concord authors did not manufacture ideas, using a few words as a springboard for heresy. Instead, they carefully examined the true meaning of the Word of God.

NEW YORK: Lesbian Priest Nominee on List to be Next Bishop of New York

Tracey Lind, an avowed lesbian who serves as Dean of Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio, is on the short list as a nominee to be the next Bishop of New York, replacing retiring Bishop Mark Sisk.

She was previously rector of St. Paul's, Paterson, New Jersey; the Associate Rector at Christ Church, Ridgewood, New Jersey; and the Director of Community Ministry, Bronx Youth Ministry, in the Diocese of New York. She is 57 years old and married to Emily Ingalls.

If nominated, she will be the third openly pansexual priest to become a bishop in The Episcopal Church. The other two are V. Gene Robinson, 64, Bishop of New Hampshire, and Mary Glasspool, 56, Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Los Angeles.

The Committee to Elect a Bishop of the Diocese of New York announced the names of the five individuals it will formally nominate at the Convention to Elect a Bishop to be held at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City on Oct 29...

This is not the first time Lind has run for bishop. She made an attempt to be the next Bishop of Chicago in 2007, but was rebuffed when the Rev Jeffrey Lee, a Midwest native, was overwhelmingly elected. Lind placed fourth with a mere 16 votes. She was not even close.

She is a disciple of her former bishop of 17 years, John Shelby Spong, Bishop of Newark.

This NALC Comment Fits WELS, Missouri, and the Little Sect on the Prairie

ALPB Online I can only speak for myself but I can tell you that for this NALC pastor the central issue has never been sexuality. If it were just about gay clergy then I and so many others would not have waited for the NALC to form. The LCMC was already established and provided us with a quick and easy way to exit the ELCA. The charge that the NALC was born simply as a reaction to gay pastors is a convient way for the ELCA to avoid facing their lack of evangelical mission (sorry but I don't see walking together with people while not talking about Jesus as a great missionary strategy).

I don't know that I'm proud of this, but personally I was content to stay in the ELCA, so long as Higgins Road's obsession with cultural political correctness, didn't affect my or my congregations ability to do ministry. I was willing to work for change and if that didn't work to simply ignore the liberal left circus. My congregation was growing and conflict free the week before CWA09 but was divided and in turmoil the week after. The reality of CWA09 was that the Church in assembly did something that they knew would damage congregations and their ability to do ministry. That for many of us was the last straw.

I wanted a Lutheran church body that was committed to mission. Only time will tell if the NALC will live up to our expectations. I do, however, see signs of hope. The NALC only has four staff persons. A General Secretary who does the administration, a Bishop who is pastor of pastors and defender of the faith, a Missions Director and an assistant who spends much of her time focused on mission. We are a little over a year old and we have had numerous regional missions events, one national new missions conference and we are planning a national conference for revitalizing congregations in November. I have been active as a member of the Missions team, a Dean and a delegate and can attest that the major topic of discussion at all of these meetings was not sexuality but our mission to make Christ known to all the world.

GJ - The Olde Syn Conference has been introducing change on little cat's feet so that they do not end up with the ELCA 2009 problem. As the writer said, he was ignoring everything until the congregation woke up and began tearing itself apart.

Nothing really changed in 2009. The LCA and ALC had been quietly ordaining and defending homosexual pastors for years. In 1987, ELCA began with a homosexual quota for all official positions, commissions, committees, and tea parties. Herb Chilstrom, as ELCA bishop, whose son committed suicide, beat the drums for homosexuality - his main mission in life.

The LCA and ALC funded Lutherans Concerned, the primary lobby for homosexuals and lesbians, long before the merger.

The Olde Synodical Conference does not want their dwindling population to wake up and start discussing issues.

Latest WELS Whine Exposed by California

Will DP Glaeske be kicked out of WELS for daring to question the NNIV at the convention?
Silly rabbit, kicks are for Lutherans.

California:
In the article by R. Koester briefly referenced on Ichabod, he undertakes to critique and analyze what he correctly identifies as flaws in NIV2011 re: gender neutral language. He concludes his critique referring to WELS dilemma: "I think our pastors and members have been put into a difficult position. Zondervan has forced denominations either to make quick decisions or to make a slower decision without the havoc that it creates." Not so! Zondervan hasn't FORCED any denomination, or synod into anything. The denominations rushed headlong into NIV territory. Those who chose NIV 1984 made a disastrous choice all on their own which is only now being manifested with in your face repercussions. R. Koester concludes his article: "Lessons learned in wrestling with NIV 2011 translation issue will help our people grow in their understanding of Bible Translation and interpretation."

One would only hope that would be true, but if the "people" rely on synod leaders who saw the old NIV as acceptable ( and that includes every official and pastor who either embraced or went along with the decision even if reluctantly), there is little hope that the "people" will ever be exposed to the deeper issues of reliability of differing manuscript evidence between that which Luther, Wycliffe, Tyndale, and KJV used, compared to the family of manuscript evidence used to some extent for every so called modern or contemporary translation since the late 19th Century. When WELS and other denomination, threw out the tested and proven KJV, the downward slide was inevitable and predictable. The voices along the way who did object or protest, were excised from the "body WELS", as obstructionists, out of touch with the times, unable to accept change, etc., etc., etc.
