Murdoch's NNIV - Flop or Success in WELS?

Pastor emeritus Nathan Bickel has left a new comment on your post "Paul Wendland's Mytho-Porno Living NIV Paraphrase ...":

Ichabod -

So, here we have the reported "preliminary" results:

Total votes cast: 2167

Delay the decision: 1621 (74.8%)

ESV: 148 (6.8%)

HCSB: 38 (1.7%)

NIV 2011: 360 (16.6%)

The "delay the decision" could be interpreted as "let's ride the fence another year."

And, apart from the fence sitters, it appears as if the new NIV 2011 is the popular choice. One more year of delay, will be all certain WELS big Whigs and others, need to line up enough votes for the Ruppert Murdoch Bible.

I think that the TEC'S 4 part biased Bible study comparing the NIV 11 to that of the ESV and HCSB reaped hugh benefits. As I mentioned in a prior comment, its action was used to "desensitize" the WELS membership to the flawed NIV. It's just a matter of time until WELS now accepts an inferior gender neutral Bible translation.

Ichabod - What you've been posting about this, vis-à-vis the WELS hell bent push and inevitability of adopting the new NIV 11, has been spot on. In another year they will have their UOJ - universal objective justification translation.

As one former WELS pastor told me: "All this commotion about the consideration of Bible translations by WELS, is just window dressing."

GJ - I share your conviction that they will get the NNIV in the long run, but this vote was a humiliation for Wendland and everyone else backing the mytho-porno living NIV paraphrase. I saw the NNIV getting over 50% with the obviously liberal districts voting.
