Brett, re "Note here in (W)ELS DP Jon Buchholz' 2005 WELS Convention essay promoting Universal Justification the absence of faith in his definition of Justification:"
Here it is at the parish level at St. Peter in Fon du Lac, WI. Note how the author of this newsletter article quotes the Smalcald Articles as Luther's "Last Will and Testament," the confession that Luther said, "These are the articles on which I must stand, and, God willing, shall stand even to my death; and I do not know how to change or yield to anything in them. If any one wishes to yield anything, let him do it at the peril of his conscience." Yet, the author - contrary to Luther's warning - "yields" (i.e. omits) the article on faith from the confession Luther was willing to die for. The author does this, IMO, because of a UOJ mindset, i.e. the Confessions must be spun to read UOJ:
Here's the article on pp.1-2:

On p. 2 look for the first "..." in the last paragraph. That's the article where Luther says (but this author omits):
4] Now, since it is necessary to believe this, and it cannot be otherwise acquired or apprehended by any work, law, or merit, it is clear and certain that this faith alone justifies us as St. Paul says, Rom. 3:28: For we conclude that a man is justified by faith, without the deeds of the Law. Likewise 3:26: That He might be just, and the Justifier of him which believeth in Christ. - II,I:4

Fond du Lac is French for "bottom of the lake." (Appleton is at the north end of the lake, FdL at the south.) Is there something in the water?
