Kokomo Theses - WELS Opposition to Justification by Faith.
Affirmed by The Sausage Factory, Mequon

Northwestern Publishing House
Ministers Of Christ-2 Corinthians
Author: Joh. P. Meyer

Ministers of Christ, Professor Joh. P. Meyer's commentary on Paul's second letter to the Corinthians, was first published in 1963 as part of the centennial celebration of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Almost fifty years later, Armin J. Panning, another professor of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and student of Meyer, has updated the commentary by incorporating the New International Version of the Bible where appropriate. This classic commentary continues to influence another generation of pastors and seminary students. The commentary features an exposition of the great thoughts of the divinely inspired writer, plus a study of the writing's emotional overtones. Size 6x9 inches. Hardcover. 313 pages. Published 2011. $42.50!

The publishing house blurb is correct about this being an influential book, so that would be one reason to buy it. The confusion and contradictions are the essence of the Synodical Conference segments still alive today. Except for working with Thrivent and ELCA, the ELS, Missouri, and WELS agree most of all on Universal Objective Justification, so neatly summarized above in the graphic.

Armin Panning, the retired seminary president and New Testament professor, supposed work on this revision, to smooth out the rough patches. He must have used the wrong side of the sandpaper.

I am trying to reconcile the Wisconsin slander against the two Kokomo families with this commentary. WELS has claimed that the Kokomo Statements are a parody of justification, but three of the four Kokomo statements are from this commentary, which WELS proudly reprinted.

No one can really understand the Wisconsin Sect until he realizes that they are willing to head-fake people about their own dogma, dogma so important that they excommunicate people just for asking questions about it, as they did with Joe and Lisa Krohn this year. I remember the Thought Police in the novel about Stalinism - 1984. WELS has Thought Police too.

UOJ from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis
J. P. Koehler, John Schaller, and August Pieper earned their degrees at St. Louis, during the time Missouri and the Wisconsin Synod had a school sharing plan. Walther was an elder professor at the seminary when they were students, and Stoeckhardt was just starting to teach. Thus the Wauwatosa trio had their beginnings in Knapp-Walther UOJ dogma.

J. P. Meyer's Studies

J. P. Meyer studied at Northwestern College and the seminary in Wauwatosa. The seminary later moved to Thiensville, and moved again to Mequon, when the post office changed the Thiensville address to Mequon (an inexpensive move, but confusing to outsiders). The change to the new seminary was also significant for the Wisconsin Synod, because J. P. Koehler was fired as president of the school, during its construction. The Depression hit afterwards, so the synod was saddled with a large debt and a long stretch of bad economic news. John Brenner (Historic St. John Lutheran, Milwaukee) was president of the synod during those years.

Meyer was a parish pastor for six years, 1896-1902, spending the rest of his career teaching, except for one three-year spell at Oconomowoc.

His teaching career was long, ending in retirement and the writing of this book:
"1896-1902, pastor, St. Stephen, Beaver Dam, Wis.
1902-1903, professor and dean, Northwestern College
Nov. 26, 1903, married Lydia Reinke
1903-1915, professor, Dr. Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn.
1915-1918, pastor, Oconomowoc, Wis.
1918-1920, president, DMLC
1920-1964, professor, Lutheran Seminary, first in Wauwatosa, then Thiensville (now Mequon), Wis.
1937-1953, president, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary
1963, published Ministers of Christ
Nov. 10, 1964, died at the age of 93."

Two Fatal Flaws
This book has two fatal flaws, which are overlooked, because he belongs to the unbroken line of UOJ promoters, from Knapp at Halle to Valleskey at Fuller.

Saint
One is the "status of saints." The Wauwatosa professors are supposed to be strictly exegetical, but this example, in the graphic, shows they were quite willing to write fiction and call it exegesis. The term "saint" in the New Testament is synonymous with "believer." Although this is widely known, NPH has chosen to footnote the problem as if it does not really matter.

The WELS spin on the term makes nonsense out of it, and this is no small matter. When the great Greek expert Panning is willing to be associated with such a farce, everything else is in doubt as well.

There are many hints, if not outright declarations, that the Wauwatosa men were willing to ignore all previous studies and declare their opinions to be derived from exegesis of the text. That is also another way of rejecting the Lutheran Confessions and Luther in favor of a tiny seminary that looked just like the Addams Family mansion - truly a cartoon version of Lutheran education.

I offer as additional proof, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the Sausage Factory attitude toward Lenski. The graduates sneer at Lenski without using his commentaries. They imagine the repetition of UOJ talking points will suffice for proclaiming the Gospel, but feel compelled to plagiarize from all kinds of false teachers. Apparently, their UOJ Gospel leaves them hungry - or just predatory.

The Scriptures were written to create and sustain faith, to provide God's own unchanging standard for truth. If their favorite dogmatics book cannot get a simple, obvious term right, the rest of the content is also suspect. That fact cannot be missed in the merging of atonement and justification.

Atonement and Justification - Not the Same
The second fatal flaw is impossible to miss. J. P. Meyer taught that the atoning death of Christ made everyone in the world free of sin. His parody of saint has this effect - every single person from that point on became a "guilt-free" saint...or sinner. Reading the statement in the graphic again will not straighten out the matter. The sinner is a saint, whether he ever believes or not, whether he even finds out about this mysterious status.

Worst of all - he has to make a decision. Will he accept or decline, once he hears this strange dogma?

Did the Three Kokomo Meyer Statements Survive Editing?
Yes, they did. One is in the graphic above. I created two more, so everyone has the information in graphical form.

Some Kokomo Narrative for the Newbies
The Kokomo episode began when Pastor Papenfuss began teaching UOJ in the congregation in Kokomo, Indiana. Thanks to some research from Name Withheld, we know that WELS used a Justification By Faith catechism for many decades, the Gausewitz, until it was replaced by the horrid UOJ Kuske catechism. Two families were upset by the new dogma being promoted by Papenfuss.

Look at the 1978 graduates with Papenfuss - Mark Jeske, Stroh, Starr, Schumann the Born-Again Atheist, Curia the UOJ Scribe, Jim Witte (DMin in CG), Marcus Manthey - Defender of Unfaith. And the faculty - no less than four UOJ fanatics: Gerlach (Fuller alumnus), Becker, Panning, and Kuske.

Although Papenfuss admitted to the families that he never heard of UOJ before The Sausage Factory (he may have said Mequon), he went ahead with excommunicating the two families who had questions. I was at the Hartmann farm talking to both men about this, and they copied the letters of excommunication for me.

The four Kokomo Statements came about this way. The families wrote down the three statements from Meyer's Ministers of Christ, which Papenfuss gave them to study. They added a fourth from their research. They said, "Is this what you are saying?" Papenfuss agreed with those statements. The letter of excommunication removed them for NOT agreeing with the statements.

The same Synod President who lied about the origin of the Kokomo statements also lied about the Tabor adultery and murder.

Either the families or someone else wrote around to WELS about this and it became a big deal in Christian News. The families appealed, which is always a waste of time in WELS, and Panning headed the board that backed UOJ. Sig Becker also gave papers defending and promoting UOJ.

The Kokomo Statements, 1979

J-580

I. "Objectively speaking, without any reference to an individual sinner's attitude toward Christ's sacrifice, purely on the basis of God's verdict, every sinner, whether he knows it or not, whether he believes it or not, has received the status of saint."

II. "After Christ's intervention and through Christ's intervention God regards all sinners as guilt-free saints."

III. "When God reconciled the world to Himself through Christ, He individually pronounced forgiveness to each individual sinner whether that sinner ever comes to faith or not."

IV. "At the time of the resurrection of Christ, God looked down in hell and declared Judas, the people destroyed in the flood, and all the ungodly, innocent, not guilty, and forgiven of all sin and gave unto them the status of saints."[34]
Footnote 34: "Every one of the statements can be understood correctly, even though one must swallow a little hard to accede to the fourth [Kokomo Statement]." Sigbert Becker, "Objective Justification," Chicago Pastoral Conference, WELS, Elgin, Illinois, November 9, 1982, unpaginated.
The letter sent to the two families quoted the statements and declared that the families were being expelled for denying those statements. Certain people have tried to confuse the issue by claiming the statements were made up by the expelled families to parody WELS doctrine. Three statements are almost verbatim from J. P. Meyer’s Ministers of Christ, now out of print. The fourth statement came from a controversy in the 19th century but was added by Pastor Papenfuss to the previous statements from J. P. Meyer. Although WELS has often backed away from the Kokomo statements, the synod continues to defend the content and reproduce the most obnoxious falsehoods found in them. The Evangelical Lutheran Synod teaches Kokomo justification in their seminary. After a layman wrote to Bethany Seminary professor John Moldstad Jr., the following statements appeared in the Evangelical Lutheran Synod Lutheran Sentinel:

J-581
“When Paul uses the word ‘reconciling’ here, [2 Corinthians 5:19] he clearly means that forgiveness of sins is really imputed to ‘the world.’
John Moldstad, Jr., “I have heard some Lutherans say they do not believe the Bible teaches objective justification. How can they assert this and still call themselves ‘Lutheran’?” Lutheran Sentinel, October, 1996, p. 11.[35]
Footnote 35 says - "The alleged question sets a record for being prejudicial. The typical ELS member would never say something so idiotic, since most Lutherans react in shock and disbelief to the very concept Moldstad is trying to promote, that forgiveness comes without the Word, without repentance, without the Means of Grace, without faith. The article is a response to Dr. Peter Moeller questioning the validity of Objective Justification, enclosing articles on the topic from Pastor Vernon Harley. Moldstad sent a long, friendly letter to Moeller on August 6, 1996."
Using Orthodoxy To Merge Atonement and Justification
By using two justifications, object and subjective, Meyer confused the act of Christ in atoning for the sins of the world with God's declaration of innocence received in faith.

This double justification formula comes from the Halle Pietist Georg Christian Knapp, whose work was available in German and English before the American Luther Kidnapper landed in the Big Easy. SP Harrison loves to gush about Walther but cannot deal with Walther's many crimes. I dare say that Missouri would never let a criminal like that join their miniserium - unless he had a lot of money to offer. You know, like Thrivent and ELCA as ministry partners.

Ministers of Christ, starting on page 90, simply ignores the plain words of the Book of Concord, Luther, Calov, and Hoenecke to prove the assumption of two justifications. The argumentation is simply appalling.

Those who remain faithful to Justification by Faith, taught by Paul and Luther, should obtain this book to see the way in which plain statements are distorted to fit the UOJ agenda. I have discussed this with various people, including one who can speed read the dogmatics classics in Latin, translating into English faster than I can follow the original.

One explanation is mission creep. To express the atonement of Christ, some engage in exaggerations that compete with one another for absurdity. For example, Ed Preuss wrote that Hottentots are justified, that we are born already justified.

Another explanation came from Dr. Lito Cruz today. He mentioned being familiar with the UOJ categories and terms from Calvinism.
In contrast, I was not familiar with the fetishes of UOJ. The Augustana Synod opposed the Norwegians on UOJ, and the people I knew emphasized the efficacy of the Word rather than the glories of The Founder. (Only Missouri does that - to its shame and detriment.) Those who think and communicate in terms of Enthusiasm cannot maintain a Lutheran position. Nor can a sect or synod. The Enthusiasm spreads like cancer - to legalism, receptionism, Church Grow-ti-vation, and Pentecostalism.

Like bankers, we need to train people with sound doctrine - from the Book of Concord and the KJV, Luther and Chemnitz. Complaining about the counterfeit is not as effective as seeing the true Gospel and noticing how bizarre and stupid UOJ is, in comparison. Yes, UOJ is a fair copy of the Gospel, one that can fool just about any MDiv. But when UOJ is placed next to the Means of Grace, the efficacy of the Word, and justification by faith, Knapp's dogma is dull and toxic.

Deadly nightshade is closely related to tomato, which is another nightshade. The nightshade berries are delicate and attractive. Cows eat them and get sick. Nightshade berries are also black and ominous looking, especially when compared to the bright red and tomato cousin.

UOJ is especially toxic because it supplants rather than attacks. Atheists, like the former WELS CG experts, work by attacking the Christian faith. Far better to substitute a Gospel, when no one is looking, such as replacing Gausewitz with Kuske, or the KJV with the NIV, or Lenski with Meyer.

----

Brett Meyer has left a new comment on your post "Review of J. P. Meyer - Ministers of Christ, Revi...":

People should find it absolutely appalling that the (W)ELS and LCMS have established the false gospel of UOJ as their central and chief article, yet, they have no Confessional statement detailing this doctrine. Nothing. You cannot even get a common confession from 10 different (W)ELS pastors. Some will admit that it doesn't exist in the Lutheran Confessions. Seriously, where's the chapter on Universal (General) Justification in the Book of Concord where this doctrine is detailed in "this we confess" and "this we reject" statements?! They teach that without UOJ there is no gospel so how did the Lutheran Confessors miss this critical doctrine. They didn't because it isn't Scriptural.

Some will say it's in the BOC so ask your UOJ pastor to show you where it's at. They'll twist Confessional statements that are directed to believers and attributes the forgiveness of sins and justification to faith in Christ.

Quote the BOC in the following places and watch the smoke pour forth from the ears of those who've placed Synod above Christ, 6] Let any one of the adversaries come forth and tell us when remission of sins takes place. O good God, what darkness there is! They doubt whether it is in attrition or in contrition that remission of sins occurs. And if it occurs on account of contrition, what need is there of absolution, what does the power of the keys effect, if sins have been already remitted? Here, indeed, they also labor much more, and wickedly detract from the power of the keys. If the Keys, given by Christ to the Priesthood of believers, can forgive and retain sins - how then were they already forgiven without the Means of Grace, when Christ paid for the worlds sins - the true meaning of the Atonement.
http://www.bookofconcord.org/defense_10_repentance.php

In desperation over the fact that the BOC doesn't contain the UOJ doctrine, they will tell you that the BOC was written to address the RCC's false teaching of works righteousness so the emphasis of the BOC was on "Subjective Justification" and not on "Objective Justification". Respond with the question, "Exactly when did the Roman Catholic Church accept the doctrine of UOJ which teaches the entire unbelieving world was declared forgiven, justified and righteous before and without faith or works?" Truth is that the introduction to the BOC states it contains all the chief articles of the Christian faith, even some like Election which were not under contention at the time.

Following those quotes, secure your excommunication from the (W)ELS and LCMS by quoting these BOC statements:
29. You cannot extricate yourself from unbelief, nor can the Law do it for you. All your works in intended fulfillment of the Law must remain works of the Law and powerless to justify in the sight of God, who regards as just only believing children.

74. But what is the process whereby Christ gives us such a spirit and redeems us from under the Law? The work is effected solely by faith. He who believes that Christ came to redeem us, and that he has accomplished it, is really redeemed. As he believes, so is it with him. Faith carries with it the child-making spirit. The apostle here explains by saying that Christ has redeemed us from under the Law that we might receive the adoption of sons. As before stated, all must be effected through faith. Now we have discussed the five points of the verse.
http://www.trinitylutheranms.org/MartinLuther/MLSermons/Galatians4_1_7.html

If by the grace of God they turn in repentance to Christ and Scriptural Justification by faith alone, rejecting the false gospel of UOJ, apply the Key to absolve their sin and build them up in Christ alone, forsaking all others, including the Synod who taught them this false gospel in their grade school, high school, college and Seminary.

Martin Luther Prep (WELS) Is Lousy With...Lice

NO! LICE! LICE!

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/medical/IM02435

http://www.liceranger.com/faq1.htm

Dear Parents and Friends of LPS,

Over the past 24 hours nits (eggs of head lice) have been discovered on (sic) many students’ hair. Our school nurse, school secretaries and staff, and volunteer moms checked students late into the night and will continue to check them today and for days to come. We give thanks to God for their painstaking work.
Because of the scope and size of this outbreak the following guidelines will be followed:

  1. Students with lice/nits will be excluded from school and should go home (or to a friend’s house) for treatment. If that is not possible, we will treat them here.
  2. The medicated shampoo to treat lice will kill any lice and some of the nits (lice eggs). It will not kill all of the nits and they will begin to repopulate in 7-10days. Parents will need to comb or pick out the nits after treatment. Students should have very few, if any, nits left in their hair when they return to school after treatment.
  3. The student will be allowed to return to school 24 hours after the first treatment. Please make sure at least 24 hours pass.
  4. If your child needs to stay home longer for treatment, laundry purposes, or for any other reason in association with head lice, please e-mail Dean Dolan or Mrs. Krause and your child will be excused from classes.
  5. A second treatment will need to be given in 7-10 days. Again, we would encourage students to go home for the second treatment, which should coincide with our mid-semester break.
  6. There will be trained people at Luther Prep who will inspect our students’ hair for lice/nits in the coming days and weeks.
  7. Regarding homework… If a student is gone for two days or less, the student should talk to the teacher when he or she returns. If a student misses more than two days, he or she will want to contact the teacher.
  8. Specific guidelines will be given to the entire student body.
Some students, because they live out of state or overseas, were unable to go home and we have taken the proper steps to isolate these students. We are also extremely grateful to the many parents who have taken students into their homes who were unable to go home. Today our maintenance staff is cleaning all the infected dorm rooms, all common areas and classrooms, offices, and buildings. We will continue to work until the campus is thoroughly cleaned.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we seek to stop the outbreak…..

In Christ,
Matt Crass

Lice Outbreak Update
Dear Parents and Friends of LPS,

The entire Luther Prep student body has been checked for head lice. Today we had nurses from the Watertown Health Department and Certified Lice Specialist Kelly Addison on campus to comb through the hair of our students.

LPS has retained the services of Kelly Addison. Her business is Lice Unexpected. She is highly qualified. You may visit her website at www.liceunexpected.com There you will find Kelly’s credentials along with much information about head lice.

Kelly will be in our dorms Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 pm to go through the hair of students who tested positive and went home or to a friend’s house. She will return again on Sunday at 6:00 pm to do the same thing. Should she discover lice or nits (eggs attached to hair), she will be in contact with parents to receive permission from them to give treatment to the student. If there is no evidence of lice/nits, she will make a recommendation to the students regarding a second treatment.

Kelly will continue to come to our campus for the coming weeks to check some students until we are quite certain that there are no cases of head lice at LPS.

The buildings, class rooms, dorm rooms, all the furniture, etc. have been thoroughly cleaned.
LPS offers our sincere thanks to the many parents who housed students who live a distance away. We could not have done it without you. We also are appreciative of the many volunteers who gave of their time to assist us in so many ways.

Finally, thank you parents and guardians for your patience and understanding. Moving forward, we feel much more prepared. We pray that the Lord grant us a lice free environment very soon.

Cordially in Christ,
Matt Crass

This is not a case of crab lice,

Making fun of a lice outbreak at LPS?

This is a new low for you.

What a sad, strange, little man you are!

This is one of the best little books on pests and diseases.
The new title could be "Rats, Lice, and MLC."
I have tried giving the Church and Changers a humor infusion, but they do not catch on easily. Their Pharisaical piety only allows them to attack others in solemn tones of self-righteousness.

Vatileaks: Butler 'stole papers Pope wanted destroyed' - Telegraph:

Officers from the Vatican Gendarmerie found thousands of papers when they raided Paolo Gabriele’s apartment on May 23, acting on suspicions that he was the mole who had leaked highly compromising material to an Italian investigative journalist, who published it in a book.
The massive haul showed that Mr Gabriele had a keen interest in secret services, espionage, the occult, scandals involving the Vatican bank and the P2, a shadowy Masonic lodge whose members included prominent Italian politicians.
The encoded documents were sent from the Vatican Secretariat of State to papal nuncios, or ambassadors, around the world.
Many of the documents bore the signature of Benedict XVI and shed light on his correspondence with cardinals and other senior figures in the Roman Catholic Church.
Some were originals while others had been photocopied by Mr Gabriele in his Vatican office.
“There were papers where the Holy Father had written 'to be destroyed’ in German,” said Stefano De Santis, one of the gendarmes who took part in the search.
The vast stash of documents also referred to the death of “God’s banker”, Roberto Calvi, who was found hanging beneath Blackfriars Bridge in London in 1982.
Mr Gabriele, 46, had also downloaded from the internet instructions on how to mask his mobile phone number and how to send jpeg files by email.
Four Vatican gendarmes were cross-examined in the court on the third day of his trial for allegedly stealing compromising papers from the Pope’s apartments, where he worked.
They said they seized more than 50 boxes of evidence during their search, including many USB memory devices, two or three computers and an iPad.
One of the gendarmes, Inspector Silvano Carli, said Mr Gabriele had stashed “an infinity of documents” in the study and living room of the apartment he shared with his wife and children.
The most sensitive were “well-hidden” among the piles of material downloaded from the internet.
He said “more than a thousand” were of direct relevance to the investigation into the unprecedented thefts from the Pope’s apartments.
Another gendarme officer, Luca Cintia, denied accusations by Mr Gabriele that during his detention he had been mistreated and kept in a tiny cell with the lights turned on 24 hours a day.
“We treated him with kid gloves, so much so that he thanked us,” said the officer.
On Tuesday the judge in the trial ordered Vatican prosecutors to open an investigation into the accusations of abuse, which allegedly happened at the start of the butler’s 53 day detention without charge in the Gendarmerie’s barracks.
The judge adjourned the trial until Saturday, when it is expected to conclude — after a total of just four hearings.
A panel of three judges will hand down their verdict on Mr Gabriele, who is charged with “aggravated theft”, which carries a penalty of up to four years in jail.
The Vatican is understood to be anxious to finish the trial in time for the opening on Sunday of a gathering of 200 bishops from around the world.
The Synod, established by Pope Paul VI, meets every two to three years to advise the Pope on Church matters.
This year will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council — another reason why the Vatican is keen to draw a line under the butler’s trial.

Dinosaur Lutheran Wonders about Holy Baptism

"Since UOJ says we're not justified by baptism, does that mean no one has original sin?"

It just gets more twisted and convoluted.

Pastor Nathan Bickel on the Presidential Race

Pastor emeritus Nathan Bickel has left a new comment on your post "MSNBC: Network of bigotry hate mongering and racis...":

Ichabod -

Thank you for posting this. I believe that Christian audiences need to witness some spotlight exposure upon our nation's mainstream media. Too often have Christians been a complacent element in the selection of unfit, unworthy and immoral political leaders. Exposing particular network media and individual media personalities (who influence Christians) for whom those media people are, can be helpful for Christian voters who are too prone to capriciously and indiscriminately vote their pocket books and union affiliations.

I think a good rule of thumb for Christian voters, is to understand who these angry, bigoted and racist media people are endorsing. Once that is clear; Christian voters (then) need to support and endorse the opposite political leaders who are the immoral scorn of these nasty media people.

Having stated the above; I must say that I am very disappointed in the "Christian" vote in states such as Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan where there is a high concentration of "Christian" voters, - and, among them, "good" Lutherans. It is simply astounding that these 3 states in the recent past presidential elections have voted for the less moral (and less "Christian") presidential candidates; giving their electoral votes to the radical left political party which endorses unrestricted and partial birth abortion (the culture of death).

Somehow, I conclude that these "Christians" aren't connecting the important dots. They certainly don't fit into the Christian disciple category of which Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote when he stated: "He, who believes, obeys; and he who obeys, believes." In other words; many of these "Christians," must be going through the motions. Maybe that reckless course of action speaks to their flawed and erroneous belief of "universal objective justification." That flawed belief can and does numb the spiritual senses. And, once the spiritual senses are stupefied; love for God and country are driven back seat to selfish and immoral values.

Reverse Engineering the UOJ Arguments

Ever since the Golden Age of Athens, some 2500 years ago, analytical thinkers have examined arguments and countered them. One reason for the failure of UOJ Stormtroopers is their inability to back up their own statements or argue against justification by faith. As Dr. Lito Cruz has observed, the UOJ Hive quickly turns to personal attacks and other logical fallacies.

The UOJ lack of honesty is telling. After promoting Unfaith Objective Justification, they claim they really believe in justification by faith. This double-talk comes from their Father Below, the Father of Lies, who fills them with malice and revenge against Biblical revelation. The Enthusiasts cannot present their dogma as sound doctrine, so they resort to threatening, silencing, and bullying people. Watch WELS move toward removing anyone who questions their New NIV or their Church Growth machinations. All of this comes from UOJ, since unbelief is the foundation of all sin.

Walther-Stephan Adultery Cult
Bishop Martin Stephan managed a cell group cult of Pietists. Stephan was the second or third guru of the Walther circle, a tight circle of friends, united by not fitting in with the ecclesiastical rationalism of the era. The Walther circle belonged to:
1. A Halle Bible study cell group.
2. A cell group dictated by Johann Gottlieb Kuehn until he finally got a call, moved, and died.
3. A cell group managed by Pastor Martin Stephan.

Stephan's congregation had permission from the government to have cell groups, because of its long-standing connections with Zinzendorf and Pietism. The police investigated Stephan over many years for misuse of church money and criminal sexual behavior. Walther's circle was expected to be completely obedient to Stephan, and Walther served as the enforcer when someone strayed. No dissent was allowed. Long before they swore obedience to Stephan as a bishop, they obeyed him as a pope. Walther simply took over that papal role.

They all overlooked the obvious signs of infidelity, from Stephan's late night "walks" with young women, to his treatment for syphilitic rashes at spas, to abandoning his wife and children on the trip to America - but taking his mistress and groupies.

Most importantly, Walther got his UOJ from Stephan, who studied at Halle University, home turf of Georg Christian Knapp, whose book in English coined the double justification language later adopted by Walther Himself.

Infallible Walther
At the Perryville riot, CFW revealed what happened when someone got in his way. Walther organized the mob, stole 120 acres of Stephan's land (by deception in both cases), threatened the man's life, stole the bishop's gold and books, kidnapped him at gunpoint, and slandered the man's family forever after.

Walther had to be top dog in everything, but he did not want the early history of the Missouri Synod written. He changed the rules in operation at the time (as Ludwig Fuerbringer noted) to have F. Pieper replace him at the seminary, to have Pieper repeat the same garbled dogma. From that time on, anyone who questioned UOJ was a demon from Hell.

All UOJ Arguments Begin with Walther
Many have become frustrated arguing against UOJ with its bilious advocates. Justification by faith begins with the Scriptures, Luther, and the Book of Concord. The key terms are Enthusiasm, the Means of Grace, and the efficacy of the Word.

UOJ Stormtroopers do not begin with Luther's doctrine, or the Scriptures, or the Book of Concord, or the post-Concord era of Lutheran Orthodoxy. They begin with Walther and his Halle UOJ, betrayed by their own language. They begin with "You reject UOJ." In other words, UOJ (a decidedly novel term and concept) is the gold standard. Why? Because Walther taught it.

Romans 4:25 proves UOJ - because Jesus "raised for our justification" - even though Romans 4:24 obliterates the claim of Unfaith Justification. This Easter Absolution was Walther's mantra throughout life. He got it from Stephan, a mediocre student, who got it from Halle University, the Mother Ship of Pietism.

Anyone who disagree with Walther was a damnable heretic.

1 Timothy 3:15 supports the Easter Absolution of the entire world (without the Means of Grace). Why? Because Rambach, the Halle Pietist, said so. Chemnitz said the opposite of 1 Timothy 3:15, but that does not matter, because Bachelor Degree Walther was far wiser than Dr. Martin Chemnitz, the senior editor of the Book of Concord, the student of Luther and Melanchthon.

John 1:29 means that Jesus forgave the entire world for not believing in Him, even though the Fourth Gospel teaches exactly the opposite of that nonsense. Why is John 1:29 UOJ? - because the Waltherians need it for their dogma.

Because Walther could not distinguish between the atonement and justification by faith, the Waltherians must also merge the two. Every atonement passage is UOJ to them, the blind following the blind guide Walther and falling into a pit.

True Lutherans Are Waltherians, Say the Waltherians
The short-circuit of SynConference thinking is revealed when they argue that the true Lutherans are the ones who always begin with the Walther filter.

Other Lutherans look at the SynCon carnival and shake their heads. They consider Krauth, Jacobs, and Schmauk secondary to Luther. They value the era of Lutheran Orthodoxy, but Luther and the Book of Concord are far more significant. To begin all Lutheran doctrinal discussions with a kidnapper, land-thief, and mob organizer is absurd.

Walther was a college graduate. Period. He went to a rationalistic university and served a parish all of two years. His spiritual maturity was based upon severe, dictatorial Pietistic cell group methods. As most Lutherans realize, cell groups are unionistic, anti-Means of Grace, and creepy.

Antinomian? Walther blamed Stephan's adultery on Mrs. Stephan, who bore his many children and passed on his syphilis to them. There is no indication, from childbirth alone, that the bishop was deprived of affection, but he cruelly inflicted his wife and family with his STD. He moved a young girl into his home. When Mrs. Stephan kicked her out, her husband moved the girl back in, claiming he was lord of the house.

When Stephan was kidnapped and forced across the Mississippi at gunpoint, his main mistress followed him and cared for him. The bishop was not forced out for adultery, because his obedient clergy had no trouble with that. Stephan was kicked out for spreading syphilis to the young women in the group, ending their futures and shaming their families.

And those obedient clergy, those founders of the Missouri Synod, looked the other way, just as their modern counterparts did when Marvin Schwan left his wife and married his mistress. And guess what? One WELS pastor told with, with solemn tones, that Marvin had a "Scriptural divorce." Pregnant pause. Marvin, with four children, was also deprived. Pastor Otten has asked the image-makers in a letter, "Did Mrs. Schwan kill herself and leave a suicide note, because of Marvin's adultery?" (I am paraphrasing.)

De-Mythologizing Walther
Walther's myth and shrine need some work. Too many facts have come out. Most is already recorded in Zion on the Mississippi, about 50 years old already.

The support for justification must be renewed, because UOJ is not the Gospel. If the clergy continue to look the other way, they will follow Lutherdom down the circling drain. Apostasy accelerates - it does not slow down.

Apostasy fights back and bites back. Sassy Sue, our wonder dog, found a baby squirrel on the ground. She followed that baby across the driveway and nuzzled it with her nose. Sassy never hurts anyone or anything, but she is Cattle Dog and programmed to herd. The baby squirrel went into the grass and tried becoming still, blending with the grass. Sassy approached and put her big black nose up and down the squirrels body.

The baby squirrel threw rolled over on his back, extended his claws, and let out a hellish "Screeeee!" Sassy and I both stepped back.

UOJ will do the same thing when approached.

How often do they admit, "This Ed Preuss dude joined the Roman Catholic Church
and defended their dogma"?
Never.

A pastor asked:
"Stephan was kicked out for spreading syphilis to the young women in the group, ending their futures"

Not questioning the validity of that statement but are their futures actually ever mentioned?  Don't remember that from Zion on the Mississippi.  I think that if those women all die young, unmarried you have proved your point, other wise ...

I know you over-attack Walther for polemic purposes, but...  I do like your point that he didn't accept any competition.

GJ - I have a low regard for those who enable clergy adulterers. They are worse than the adulterers themselves, because they increase the damage done to the family, the congregation, and many others. Moreover, many more lies must be told to keep the adulterer in business. It is no longer the clergy adulterer lying about his wife, but the clergy friends slandering the wife in concert with their pal or boss.

I am too kind to Walther. His devious, dishonest nature is a reflection of his false doctrine. He passed on his doctrinal syphilis to the SynConference, while pretending to be a Lutheran.

The young women Stephan infected? - A Missouri Synod pastor researched this and found out the facts that are so carefully hidden. I could reveal my ultimate source, but that is not necessary. I do not make statements unless they are backed up by research. Some of the LCMS clergy know this. That is why Paul McCain goes nuts when the Stephan book is mentioned.

McNasty is just following the example of Missouri's founder - Martin Stephan.

Ichabod -

Very good posting about connecting the dots of Walther's Joe Paterno type sins overlooking Stephan's adultery. And, that has certainly spilled over to the Missouri Synod leadership of today. They refuse to tear down their graven image Walther security blanket statues; thus promulgating their affinity to that which is contrary to Scripture.

I just submitted a comment (which you graciously posted), stating that Christians need to be politically astute and circumspect by not being deceived by the immoral Network news media. I connected some dots there, basically stating that the false "universal objective justification" teaching lends itself to numbing the spiritual senses of Christians making important voting decisions:

Universal objective justification's slimy tentacles extend to destroying the "saltiness" of Christians, which Christ spoke about in Matthew 5:13. The long and short: When Christians screw-up the grace of God through faith [justification by faith alone] their Christian witness as Christ’s disciples is certainly wounded and greatly diminished!

It is no small wonder why our USA is in such moral decline. Christians have dropped the ball.............

I'll put it another way:

Christians who allow their religion to take a backseat to their religion, are simply being disingenuous and hypocritical. They need to repent of their sinful support and vote for politicians and a political party which is most anti-Scriptural.

Sanctimonious Al Sharpton: MSNBC’S race card bigot
Angry, bigoted, hate mongering and racist media need  public spotlight exposure
I have come to the conclusion a long time ago, that those who are quick and consistent to accuse of hate mongering, are (themselves) those who are bigots and hate mongers.
The MSNBC news network continued its race card and bigoted bent Tuesday night while “covering” the Republican presidential convention.  Their race card bigotry was exhibited in  ”over-kill” fashion  when MSNBC  omitted the convention speeches by black speakers. MSNBC continues to be a showcase of anger and hypocrisy as they continue down their propaganda road with their hate monger behavior (while at the same time) hypocritically accusing Republicans, Conservatives and those with whom they disagree [with] for being intolerant and prejudiced to American  minorities!
Here following, are  some  examples of MSNBC’S anger, bigotry, hate mongering and / or racism, as displayed by some of their news and commentary personalities – See also related links:
The crazed, constipated delusional look of Chris Matthews
The crazed, constipated delusional look of Chris Matthews
MSNBC’S Chris Matthews just can’t seem to help himself. The same “newscaster” who on election night, 2008, categorized Obama’s victory as a personal “thrill up his leg,” continues to persist in wild allegations of racism and bigotry. Isn’t it time for MSNBC to get rid of Chris Matthews as it discarded the Keith Olbermann fanatic? Personally, I think that is well overdue for Matthews to be thrown into the journalistic loony bin.
If you’ve spent any amount of time watching MSNBC’S,  Chris Matthews, it is evident that he appears not only paranoid but super sensitive.  He always appears to be mentally constipated as he spews out his angry non-stop soapbox proclamations. This news piece video seems to be  evidence of that. [Video]
Even MSNBC’s Big Eddy and Rachael Madcow appear to be more stable than Matthews, whose publicly displayed emotions profusely hemorrhage on air as if he is about to  wail like a spoiled and uncontrollable crybaby.
Finally, it is no wonder why MSNBC’S audience ratings are so low. Watching the (often) unprofessional likes of angry appearing George Schulz, Rachael Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell, Martin Bashir and Chris Matthews, becomes a very swift, sad and sickening experience. Even sticking your own finger down your throat is more to be preferred than watching and listening to these political correctness liberal shameless goons……….
