Good gimmick - FICL

and a means of grace?:

"An annual Easter egg hunt at Cross of Life in Ontario, Canada,... brought one Chinese woman closer to God."

Chinese woman: “I never heard the Easter story before.”

Pastor: “You mean you’ve never heard it in all the ways we shared it this morning?” I asked, thinking she was impressed with the egg-hunt message, the kids message that morning, the new video we had shown, and..." oh yeah, almost forgot... "and the sermon.... Friends, there is nothing better than knowing what Easter means."

One of the things Easter means is that you don't trivialize the price paid to redeem us from sin, death and the devil by trying to "impress" un-churched unbelievers with Easter egg hunts and other gimmicks because you don't think the simple preached message of Christ crucified and risen from the dead is effective enough.

Oh, you mean God DOESN'T work through our carefully planned gimmicks? Just Word and Sacrament?
(removing tongue from cheek now)

I am going to church now, no Easter eggs.

10:00am
Easter is the most important Christian Festival of the year.  On it we celebrate Jesus' rising from the dead and his victory over the forces of darkness and evil.  It is definitely a time of celebrating for people of all ages.

This event includes the telling of the Easter Story, an Easter Egg Hunt, various games, crafts, and activities, and a hot dog lunch.

Toddlers through 5th grade are invited to particpate in the Egg Hunt.  Families of all ages can enjoy the games, crafts, and food.

When you arrive, just enter the church building through the main doors and someone will be there to guide you to the registration table.

The Egg Hunt goes quickly, so make sure to be here by 10:00 am

There is no charge or fee for this event.   King of Kings sees it as a chance to serve our neighborhood and community.

Give me a break! KoK is hoping they'll join their church, build the membership roster, and contribute to the bottom line. How do egg hunts, games, crafts, and... a hot dog lunch, etc. "serve our neighborhood and community?" The YMCA and Burger King do the same thing.

GJ - An Easter egg hunt is a secular event, which many different non-religious organizations have for children. I thought Easter Sunday focused on the resurrection of Christ, not kiddie events.

I had oodles of WELS congregations to link, so I only picked a few. Apparently the pictures of Doebler and Patterson killed the live bunny ads, but not necessary the actual promotion of bunnies.
