  • Gerard Johnson I am affiliated with the LCMS, so I'm trying to understand why it says "LCMS or bust."

  • Seth Bode It's a very boring story. I wouldn't waste any more of your life on it.

  • Patrick Loroff This is an image from a blog called "Ichabod the Glory Has Departed." It is run by a man named Greg Jackson who calls himself an independent Lutheran pastor. Jackson mostly uses this blog to slander the WELS. He has nothing but horrible things to say about the WELS and its leadership. He never says anything constructive. He produces childish graphics like this to try to support his arguments. He publishes stories with no sources listed at all, which leads me and many others to believe that he makes up most of what he posts. Anytime there's a hint of activity at any WELS church or institution, he jumps on it and blows it way out of proportion. He does the same things with the LCMS and the ELS as well. My advice to you would be to avoid this blog altogether. There is nothing good on it at all.

  • Patrick Loroff Also, just for clarification, he is not affiliated with the WELS in any way, nor is his blog.

  • Chris Amiss You guys should look up the names and faces in the bus, not just Jackson. Then again, it might dent your perfect view of your precious little church body - can't have that, now can we? To borrow a line: You can't handle the truth!

  • Patrick Loroff I'll be the first to admit that there are problems in the WELS, but running a blog like Jackson's isn't the way to go about fixing things. I do not appreciate comments like that at all, Mr. Amiss. Things like that are exactly what Jackson posts on his blog.

  • Dan Schutz Especially when you know these people personally. Even evangelical Christians would take issue with this mans (sic) way of being christian (big c, Dan).

  • Chris Amiss Just don't shoot the messenger - investigate the message, thoroughly, then speak. Whatever. Do as you will.

  • Seth Bode Lol... Way to borrow a line. Good job! Now post a video of yourself saying, "You can't handle the truth!" Then we will know you were serious.

  • Chris Amiss Nah, to quote you - too much time wasted on people who are OCD over a human organization. Roger and over and out.

  • Christian Schulz Comment got deleted by me accidentally along with the other one. Reposting the latest from memory:

Do any of you know the facts behind the things in the graphic? By facts, I mean the letters, maticulously documented recordings of the situations, court
documents, etc. All these things are public and online and exist independent of Ichabod. So please, let's stop with the smoke screen of "it's Ichabod!" All Ichabod did was repost the other documents of those involved.

    So, do you all know?

  • Carl Holmes Being from the Houston area, the pastor with "ELCA" over his face looks familiar. While I am a member of the LCMS, I do visit our WELS brothers and sisters in Christ from time to time.

  • Bonnie Kay The guy on the far right is Mark Jeske of Milwaukee known for his promotion of the Church Growth Model. Don't know the rest of them.
  • Joel Kluender I'll be the first to acknowledge that the WELS is made up of sinners who make mistakes. About 400,000 of us, in fact. That doesn't give us the right to blatantly violate the 8th Commandment and bash incessantly with no love displayed, as Greg Jackson does. Yes, there are warts on the WELS, the LCMS, the ELS and every other human organization. We sin against each other and the Lord, often grievously. Does this mean we can disregard the call to love each other with an "intense" love as Peter in last Sunday's second lesson reminded us? "Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be serious and disciplined for prayer. Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins." Please, moderators of this group, PLEASE enforce the guidelines you yourself indicate at the top of this group page. This conversation, and several previous ones, are filled with sarcasm and bashing. If we allow this to continue, I (and I suspect many others) will simply remove themselves from this group. There would probably be much rejoicing by some if that happens, but I for one am not going to keep on listening if we keep on sinning against each other. There is no time for that kind of attitude... those are the OLD ways (see the passage I just referenced - 1 Peter 4:7,8). Let's focus on the all important task of bringing the Gospel to lost souls. Let me reiterate that the problem is NOT the topics being discussed but the tone being used. We could talk about what is implied by the graphic but we need to do it in love.

  • Joel Lillo I think that my biggest problem with Greg Jackson is that violating the 8th Commandment is his default position. Does that mean that I'm saying that everything he prints is a lie? No. What I mean is that he always falls back on taking people's words and actions in the worst possible way. It isn't enough for him to report that there are those in the WELS who use contemporary worship and Church Growth methods and to disagree with them. His problem is that he always assigns the worst motives to the ones he attacks. They don't just use contemporary worship; they're trying to make all Lutherans "Babtists" (his own misspelling, I think it's supposed to be funny). Those who use church growth methods, according to him, buy into ALL of the worst aspects of that movement -- taking the focus completely off of Christ. That coupled with his apparent love of the lowest form of humor as demostrated in the representative PhotoShop at the top of this article combine to make him a commentator not worth taking seriously. [GJ - Joel blocks me so I had to get this from Watson, a source.]

  • Joel Lillo I've already been photoshopped by him into a graphic that included a couple of people I don't recognize and a swirling painting of some kind or other. Frankly, I don't get it. Can any of you help me figure it out. Here it is...
  • Christian Schulz Does anyone want to talk about the legitimate issues surrounding the graphic or just get all twisted up about a guy you've probably never met? If no one wants to, that's fine. I just want to know where this thread is going.

  • Beckie Grunewald I need context, Joel! I've gathered, though, from reading his blog and a few others that you are not well-liked there.

Another class graduates from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon.

GJ - I haven't laughed that hard since I finished my last graphic. These budding alcoholics get all their facts while sitting around the bars at Mequon or New Ulm. When their Director of Public Relations was arrested for distributing homosexual child porn, all I had to do was copy the stories and  link the area and national news sources, and I already had the arrest report. Be thankful I did not publish that.

Every quotation has a source listed, whether it is sound doctrine or false doctrine.

People from all denominations love the Norma Boeckler Biblical quotations I publish here and on Facebook.

Most people think that Luther sermons and quotations are worthwhile, but these guys have never cracked a book by Luther unless he wanted to conjure up a UOJ quotation.

Some think the Joel Lillo messages are exceptionally nasty. No, he is a typical WELS pastor. As I have said many times before - there are good pastors and congregations in WELS. Unfortunately, the false teachers trained at Fuller and Willowcreek are in complete control of the sect.

Joel Hochmuth is doing five years in prison for violating
an extremely sweet deal from the authories, after being caught
with child porn at home and at WELS headquarters.
