By Dorothy Cummings McLean

March 27, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – The theologian criticized by Pope Emeritus Benedict in his recent controversy-causing letter to the head of Vatican communications is a major influence on Pope Francis’s theology of marriage.

German theologian Peter Hünermann, 89, was mentioned by name in Benedict’s letter, which was on the topic of an 11-volume series on Pope Francis’ theology which Benedict declined to read. The Pope Emeritus expressed surprise that Hünermann had been asked to write a volume. This section of the letter was originally omitted from the public by the Vatican.

Hünermann had led “anti-papal initiatives,” Benedict stated in his letter, and “virulently attacked the magisterial authority of the Pope [John Paul II], especially on questions of moral theology.”

“Additionally, the ‘Europäische Theologengesellschaft’ [European Society of Catholic Theology], which he founded, was initially conceived by him as an organization in opposition to the papal magisterium. Later, the ecclesial sense of many theologians blocked this orientation, making that organization a normal instrument of encounter among theologians,” Benedict added."

We have Jay Webber and Jon-Boy Buchholz."
Jay Webber: "This video shows the harm that can come to innocent souls when the sound and Biblical teaching of their pastor and synod is twisted and distorted into something bizarre and unrecognizable, and far different from the comforting evangelical teaching that their pastor and synod actually hold to. The WELS teaches (to quote WELS DP Jon Buchholz)..."

Cardinal Burke: Pope Francis is ‘increasing the confusion’ (FULL INTERVIEW)

Catholic , Pope Francis , Raymond Burke

ROME, April 5, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) — Pope Francis is “increasing the confusion” in the Church, and the College of Cardinals constitutes a de facto check against papal error, Cardinal Raymond Burke has said in a new interview.

Speaking to the Italian Catholic news agency La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana, Cardinal Burke said the alleged ‘interview’ on hell with Pope Francis, published on Holy Thursday by his 94-year-old atheist friend, Eugenio Scalfari, “went beyond what is tolerable.”

Burke also called the Vatican’s response to the “scandalized reactions” from across the globe “highly inadequate,” because it failed to reassert the Church’s teaching on the immortality of the soul and the existence of hell. He said it also failed to assert that Pope Francis repudiates the “erroneous and even heretical ideas” attributed to him.

“It has been a source of profound scandal not only for many Catholics but also for many people in the secular world who have respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings, even if they do not share them,” he said.

“This playing around with faith and doctrine, at the highest level of the Church, rightly leaves pastors and faithful scandalized,” he added.

Cardinal Burke said the situation is further aggravated by the silence of so many bishops and cardinals, some of whom “pretend there is nothing serious going on.”"

It will be a great comfort for all the UOJ Enthusiasts to be greeted by guilt-free saints in Hell, including the citizens of Sodom.

Further (I, 36):
"Divine revelation is the first and the last source of sacred Theology, beyond which theological discussion among Christians dare not proceed. For every doubt concerning religion in the mind of a true Christian is removed by divine revelation, and by this the faith of the believer grows so strong, and is so firmly established, that it frees his mind from all fear and suspicion of deception, and imparts to him a firm assurance."

Bethany Lutheran Church is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
Our tax-exempt status is managed by Attorney Glen Kotten, Sleepy Eye, Mankato, Minnesota.

I have finished setting up this account. Many people like PayPal.

This is where you set up your own Pay Pal account, to transfer funds. Many use it on e-Bay to provide goods for the online garage sale. Others use it for all their payments online.

You do not need a PayPal account to send funds. You can use any of the following:

PayPal

If someone lives in another country, getting a draft in US funds is very awkward and also expensive, as I understand.

Donations will go toward supporting Bethany Lutheran Church, worship services and publishing. People can use various forms of payment, including credit cards, to send funds via PayPal.

The Bethany Lutheran Church account was set up a long time ago, when the congregation was established as an ecclesiastical corporation in Minnesota, a favored state for denominational headquarters.

Former Arkansas College President Pleads Guilty to Fraud.
Oren Paris III Received Largest Tax Grant in the State,
Will Testify Against Partners in Crime

Former Arkansas college president pleads guilty to fraud:

Shelton and his lawyer leaving an earlier session.

"Neal, a Republican, pleaded guilty to a conspiracy count on Jan. 4, 2017, for his role, admitting he took two kickbacks totaling $38,000 in exchange for directing grants to two nonprofit groups. He has not been sentenced.

The indictment doesn't give a total figure of what Wood is accused of receiving in kickbacks because portions of it were reportedly paid in cash.

Ecclesia College is still listed by the U.S. Department of Education on a watch list affecting its cash flow, according to the department's website. And the school is a defendant in an ongoing Washington County Circuit Court lawsuit over its refusal to release financial documents concerning the Improvement Fund grants.

Paris had tried to distance himself from Woods since the indictments were handed up March 1, 2017. He asked for a separate trial on April 24 of last year -- a month after the indictments were served. Paris argued the indictment against Woods alleged wrongdoing outside of the Ecclesia grants. Brooks denied the request."

Paris and Shelton are also charged with wire fraud. All three are charged with one count of conspiracy to commit fraud. Woods is also charged with one count of money laundering.
Woods faces one count of fraud involving a second nonprofit, a job training program called AmeriWorks. The nonprofit was incorporated by Rusty Cranford, a onetime executive for Decision Point, a Bentonville-based drug treatment program.
The following timeline is based on federal court records, records from the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District and reporting by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

How To Plant Roses - Much Easier Than People Imagine

Edith's Darling grew well last summer but did not last the winter.

The baby's name was Marigold, so you can see why the rose has this name.

The former landscaper pointed at the bare root roses in the rain-barrel and demanded, "What are those?"

Roses are harvested and stored in refrigeration. When people buy roses at most locations, they are potted, leafing out, and often in bloom. All those locations get their roses bare root, or at least the main distributors do.

I buy from Edmunds Roses, so they send bare root roses in a bag with damp moss. If they do not grow, I can ask for free replacements. They arrive early, because roses tolerate the cold, long before the local stores have them.

And I get to choose instead of going through what is left.

  1. I open the package, slit open the bag, and sink the bag of roses in the rain-barrel. My minimum is 24 hours, but I have soaked them for days when necessary.
  2. If possible, I plant them before a long rain.
  3. Last fall, I ended with bags of peat compost, which are a combination of peat and manure. Another way to improve the start is to buy topsoil or generate compost. Red wiggler earthworms will improve ordinary soil and make good soil even better.
  4. I dig out the heavy clay soil for each rose and cut tree roots away.
  5. The rose is positioned to keep the bud union under the soil surface, to protect against hard freezes. I also use role collars to protect the rose in the winter. One reader found our hose by spotting the 27 white rose collars.
  6. The rose will grow better if the canes and roots are pruned somewhat. The best start I ever had came from a long soak and heavy pruning of the canes and roots. I always prune both sides of the rose equation.
  7. I fill around the plant with peat compost and clay.
  8. If no rain is coming, I water the canes and base each day if dry and windy, or every other day. The canes really need extra watering before the leaves pop out.
  9. I planted yesterday and will water today. Friday will be a heavy rain and thunderstorm, God willing.

Purple Splash is a climber that I gave to a helper,
and it is still growing well.

Why Are the UOJ Pharisees So Irritable?

The WELS Discussion Pharisees ignore the Augsburg Confession, the Apology, and the Chief Article.

Someone directed me to WELS debating UOJ on Facebook - again. They do not discuss Justification by Faith, the Chief Article of Christianity, because UOJ comforts them and makes them feel superior.

Am I maligning the Pharisees by associating them with WELS and the Little Sect on the Prairie?

Everyone should concede that the WELS/ELS blokes preening about their UOJ have no excuse - given our volume of material teaching the Gospel. As we can see from John's Gospel, which they also ignore, some of the Jewish leaders believed in Jesus and were forgiven and saved.

Fools Gold from the WELS Discussions

Marzan Ozarraga Venus Tnx Donald Hochmuth I found out that he is ELDONA. It came across as a shock to me when he claims that wels believed that by UOJ we mean justification even for those who are in hell. It is obvious to me at face value that it was off the rails observation for him. But I was just trying to test him here on that accusation. tnx for the time.

GJ - Yes, WELS teaches that everyone in Hell is a guilt-free saint.

David Ude Yes Marzan Ozarraga Venus, the folks in eldona only get to their view either by completely rejecting what the Bible is saying or by completely ignoring what we are actually saying. Lutherans have always been clear on this, stressing uoj and sj at the same and steadfastly refusing the idea that everyone will go to heaven.

GJ - Ude admitted faith in those guilt-free saints in Hell and sealed the deal with the comment above.

Gerard Johnson The WELS rightly kicked out the false teacher Paul Rydecki when he denied the beautiful biblical doctrine of UOJ, that all men are justified whether they believe it or not, instead teaching that only those with faith in Jesus are justified. He went to the ELDoNA which is why they get so riled up about it. Like brother Tembreull pointed out above, the ELDoNA nuts may maintain the universal atonement, but OJ is about justification, not atonement. Jutification (sic) means forgiveness and declared righteous according to our shared confession. All sinners are forgiven and declared righteous like your wonderful WELS "This We Beleive (sic)" says. That is the end of the matter, and if ELDoNA rejects that, shake the dust off your feet and ignore their works!

Once again i just want to thank the WELS for their stalwart confession in this matter. Would that my beloved LCMS had the same intestinal fortitude!!!

GJ - Denying the Chief Article is "stalwart"? Oh my.

Ron Pederson Think about the implication of denying objective justification: God has not forgiven my sins but if I believe He has, then He has.

GJ - Their Objective Justification term is from the Calvinist translator of a Halle Pietist professor - Knapp. And yet the act of questioning this newly invented dogma is converted into a sin.

Someone asked pertinent questions about UOJ's contradictions. This was a response -

Joe Jewell Thomas Alan: going forward, you need to disagree WITHOUT the name-calling (it’s especially ironic that you would need to be told this given that many of your ad hominems have been in the vein of “snot-nosed kid”).

It’s not helpful, contentless, and co
mpletely uncalled for. Please refrain. The most gratuitous of your comments has been deleted. To be clear: The debate is fine, welcome even (confrontation too!), but no reason we need to call names.

GJ - Funny how only one side gets dressed down by the WELS/ELS moderators. Beware the wrath of the UOJ Pharisees.

Major Factual Errors in This UOJ Discussion

Various people make these claims, which are patently false:

  1. WELS/ELS - "They have always taught UOJ." No, the Gausewitz catechism did not, and it served the Synodical Conference decades until "improved by WELS" and then kicked under the bus. The much newer, verbose, and pedantic Kuske catechism is UOJ.
  2. The LCMS has never officially taught UOJ. Its catechisms teach Justification by Faith. However, the UOJ faction does control the Missouri Synod.
  3. Jay Webber - who constantly links his pathetic essay and the Buchholz debacle - tries to call Justification by Faith "synergism." That proves he does not grasp Biblical doctrine or the history of doctrine. He reminds me of Tim Glende, who invented Inuitu Fidei!

However, I would be negligent if I failed to mention the enormous following enjoyed by the Q posts, which are rather cryptic. The Vatican is an officially recognized state with its own diplomatic corps. Therefore, news about Pope Francis is always world news and involves far more than liturgical colors and the price of incense.

When the Jesuit Antichrist is an apostate, as judged by Catholic dogma, it is time to be on the alert. More than ever before, the Pastoral Epistles are proving that the Apostle Paul was correct.

1 TimothyNow the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

2 TimothyI charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

This must be read with 1 and 2 Timothy.

2 ThessaloniansNow we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away (Apostasy) first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

"The Dancing Word." No really, this was a performance in a
Roman Catholic church.

Theosophy and New Thought by Henry Clay Sheldon - Lutheran Library Publishing Ministry – "Faithful to the Reformation"

Theosophy and New Thought by Henry Clay Sheldon - Lutheran Library Publishing Ministry – "Faithful to the Reformation":

"Much of 21st Century Evangelical Christianity is what used to be called New Thought. Rev. Sheldon writes,

"The conception of Christ characteristic of New Thought is purely humanitarian...He may be characterized as a God-man, but not as the God-man...There is no ground whatever for believing that his personality differed from that of other men. He stands before us as the moral ideal, and fulfills the office of Saviour by example. Even in his miracles he is not apart from us. The so-called miracles were perfectly conformable to law, and indicate the kind of equipment any man might use if he would but enter upon his full inheritance."

This book makes the important connection between the ideas of Madame Blavatsky's Theosophy and what passes as mainstream Christianity today.

Ecclesia College president pleads guilty to fraud ahead of trial | Arkansas Blog:

"Oren Paris III, president of Ecclessia College in Springdale, pleaded guilty today to fraud ahead of a trial scheduled to begin on Monday, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.

Federal prosecutors allege that Paris paid kickbacks to former state Sen. Jon Woods and former state Rep. Micah Neal in return for general improvement fund grants to the college. Neal pleaded guilty to a conspiracy count in early 2017. Paris was scheduled to go to trial next week alongside Woods and Randell Shelton, a consultant who prosecutors say served as a pass-through for the kickbacks. "

After Recent Comments on Hell, Report Emerges of Curial Backlash Against the Pope - CatholicCitizens.org:

"Italian Journalist and author Antonio Socci has made waves this week with a piece of commentary, posted on his website on Easter Sunday, alleging that Pope Francis’s most recent conversation with La Repubblica publisher Eugenio Scalfari on the supposed non-existence of Hell has made bigger ripples throughout the Vatican than can be seen on the surface.

According to Socci, the Vaticanist website Il Sismografo — which sources in Rome confirm is widely read within Vatican circles — lamented on Holy Saturday that despite the so-called “denial” from the Vatican (which wasn’t actually a denial at all) that the pope said what Scalfari reported — namely, that Hell does not exist and that the souls of the unrighteous are annihilated — “already now for 48 hours it has caused an avalanche on the web, in every language.”"

 Being pope is hard work.
