Spencer has a droll sense of humor. Years ago he promoted Mirthless Mark Schroeder as a modern day Luther, standing astride Lutheran history, bellowing, "No more of this nonsense!" Steve and Mark were classmates at Mordor, which gives men a strange feeling of unity, after regaining consciousness from a week of GA hazing and cheap beer.
Mirthless Mark recently brought up, with a nostalgic smile, the GA practice of sending new students into the raw sewage pond, an ancient rite of the WELS sect.
Spencer also promoted Jon-Boy Buchholz as the Pope for the arid Arizona-Roswell District. Buchholz was another Reformer in the mold of Ignatius of Loyola.
And yet, Mirthless Mark delivered his sect into the grasping claws of Mark and Avoid Jeske, the ever-annoying chief of the Jeske Crime Family. And Jon-Boy? - he was on both sides of the Church Growth issue, coming to rest solidly on the side of OJ and Church Growth aka Church Shrinkage. So Jon-Boy paired up with JarJar Binks Webber, and Spencer with Cascione. So many happy couples, so much doctrinal destruction.
