Once upon a time, Luther Quest was the place to go for serious theological conversation on the worldwide web. Those days are gone. It was good while it lasted. Rolf David Preus

I agree, and it doesn't seem to have been replaced by any other venue - at least not anything I have been able to find. Erich Heidenreich

The decline in comments on LCMS doctrinal controversies on blogs like LQ and elsewhere was foreseen following the Reporter article about CCM Opinion 13-1665, "Fellowship of Peers" which led to Report 65-G (2013 Convention Workbook, pp. 306-7), which led to Resolution 12-07A (2016 Convention Proceedings, p. 227, adopted 684 to 244), which resulted in the LCMS Bylaw 1.8, Dissent 'gag order' (2016 LCMS Handbook, p. 37). Scott Diekmann's July 18, 2016, flowchart explained this process that now curtails LCMS pastors from discussing theological controversies within the LCMS with the laity on internet blogs and elsewhere. Talk to CUW Prof. Gregory Schulz for what can happen if you do.

I have wondered if the rise of Facebook had something to do with the decline of Luther Quest. Rolf David Preus

Yes. Both Rev. Engelbrecht and I believe Jack Kilcrease S.J. are involved in large Lutheran discussion groups on Facebook. Alpb seems to be grinding to a halt as well.

From the internets: The most popular social media platforms in 2024 The top four most popular social media platforms in the world are Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and Instagram. TikTok comes in at six, but X (formerly known as Twitter) is number 15 and LinkedIn isn't even on there. Basically, you need to start a Lutheran Facebook group. Or join one that already exists. |
