Pope Francis accepts resignation of Cardinal Donald Wuerl, appoints him interim DC leader

Vatican City, Oct 12, 2018 / 04:01 am (CNA).- Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Washington’s Cardinal Donald Wuerl on Friday, while asking the cardinal to continue leading the Archdiocese of Washington on an interim basis until a permanent successor is appointed.

In a letter to Wuerl obtained by CNA Oct. 12, Pope Francis told the cardinal: “Your renunciation is a sign of your availability and docility to the Spirit who continues to act in his Church.”

“In accepting your resignation, I ask you to remain as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese until the appointment of your successor.”

Wuerl, 77, originally submitted his resignation on Nov. 12, 2015, when he turned 75 years old, as required by canon law.

The pope said Friday that he had also received a Sept. 21 request from Wuerl that his resignation be accepted.

“This request rests on two pillars that have marked and continue to mark your ministry: to seek in all things the greater glory of God and to procure the good of the people entrusted to your care,” Pope Francis wrote.

In the Oct. 12 letter accepting Wuerl’s resignation, Francis defended the cardinal from the widespread criticism he has faced in recent months.

“You have sufficient elements to ‘justify’ your actions and distinguish between what it means to cover up crimes or not to deal with problems, and to commit some mistakes.”

GJ - The partially copied and two linked articles give an indication of the corruption and degradation of the Church of Rome. I doubt whether it was any worse during Luther's time or the eras in-between. 

Some contend that the pope's seat is in fact vacant (Wiki). 

The term has been adopted in Sedevacantism, an extreme^[11][12][13] strand of the Catholic traditionalist movement. Sedevacantists believe that all popes since the Second Vatican Council have been heretics, and that therefore the see of Rome is vacant.

No Better Time To Join the Church of Rome

The faithful Lutheran laity and clergy should consider why LCMS-WELS have so much in common with Rome - and in so many ways. The three churches are quite full of themselves and teach Universalism - UOJ.

WELS clergy are not as intoxicated with Rome and Eastern Orthodoxy as the LCMS seminary graduates are. But Rome, Missouri, and the Wisconsin Sect have a great love for Fuller Seminary gimmicks. 

So we have LCMS guys longing to join Rome or to play priest in their sect. UOJ is the great harmonizer - low-church and high-church. Let not faith get in the way.

They make up for their Universalism, they think, with persnickety, fussy attention to all the externals. "Oh, Lair, that incense is hideous. Where did you buy it? Ikea?"

 Luther explained how peacocks are so pretty and vain but make a raucous sound when they open their mouths. They are sad because their foundation - their doctrine - is so ugly.
